- The short Flounder season in the North East is here and it's more challenging than ever to bring a few of these tasty flatties home. Captain Al Lorenzetti who fishes on The Great South Bay of Long Island gives his insight on how to target these elusive fish.
Wow this is a great video thanks
20 years ago I thought they were extinct. In the early 70s you could catch 60 fish an hour right behind good Samaritan hospital!
We used mussels for bait and chum. Painted sinkers yellow. I would skip school on St Patrick’s day, that was Flounder opener .
As a kid, some 60-65 years ago, I fished for flounder off the pier at Johnny's Reef at the far end if City Is. I used a drop line and an old soda can as my reel. Who had a rod back then? I'd bring home the fish to help feed my family.
I very much enjoy this video. I have watched several times. I love watching this in the off season, while waiting for warmer weather. I have learned much. Thanks for the post.
Very informative. Love the chumming idea.
Flounder fishing is down do to shrimpers and folks not throwing trash away that's a fact my friend

I think the flounder here in the manasquan are being eaten by predators especially the fluke had a bunch of baby winter flounder gets thrown up in the kayak by the fluke
Does that gulp worm work????
Ive used them. Gulp alive always works better than regular gulp.
The eyes of a flounder do not have the three cones necessary to see the color red. Red appears as gray to them. Also, bmpTurboGLI is correct that red is the first color to disappear in the water column. So while some fish, like Striped Bass, do have the cones to see red, they are not able to see it unless they are in relatively shallow water.
ive never caught a flounder
Red is the first color to disappear under water. . .
