I love these girls! Each one is fantastic, and so happy to be working together. I'm already saving my lunch money in case they come to the states.

Senri is a legend already. Such a precise, complete and musical drummer. And the Jazz Avengers is just an absolute Super Group - all great musicians at their own and as an ensemble. Japan delivers in every genre, it’s astounding.

Senri's drumming is just off the charts. Loved Chizuru's and Junna's solos as well.

I had the chance to meet Senri in Montreal 2 years ago at a drum demonstration. I even photographed myself with her. I didn't know her but my J-rock fan friend introduced me to her. Wave potter i saw you at Boston, band-maid show, with Allan, Ryan...but i didn't talked with yours. Yes Senry is a legend, she's practice since baby. She's showed how drum technical.

She's a total beast. I've said before, I'd LOVE to see her and Hiromi combine their talents. Senri's accuracy is next level.

Thanks Wave - YT and reactions definitely got me hooked back onto more jazzy, funky and progressive stuff again - each of the jazz avengers members is a rabbit hole in their own right 😁

Whenever I watch the master, I have to smile when I recall that Senri said she had to ask Zildjian to make her extra long sticks, because "my arms are too short." What a goddess !!!

I'm not sure I've ever seen Senri as focused as in the "Number 2. Exploration" from that same concert -- almost like she had to work at it a little. I'm no drummer, but I suspect that's a brain melter too. Her dynamics and creativity in perfect and also unusual drumming are really showcased in the quieter and constantly-changing tune "No 10 Why Not?" written by the soprano sax player which features the keys, who rarely gets a chance to shine like that.

Small note--Imai-san standing in for WaKaNa, who was on maternity leave. They are all world-class musicians. I don't know of any other jazz ensemble today that is doing anything like this. And yes, Senri is already a legend at 27.

Senri and Juna make up one of my favorite rhythm sections. Senri is clean and Juna swingy, they really complement each other.

It's always fun to watch you react to Senri, Wave! She has such a great combination of innate feel for nuance and flawless mechanics that most drummers can't even conceive of. Speaking of Jazz Avengers, there's a video on their channel of them reacting to the MV of their own song Unite, which is fun to watch.

Senri recently joined Saki in her solo concert! Also, joined Takayoshi Ohmura and Li-Sa X in a live performance earlier as well.

The HK tour had many songs off the new Avengers album. Also, "What just happened?" Well, the studio version is a 16 bar solo, we got 60 bars live. We also had Wakana being replaced by Harumo Imai on sax because Wakana was out for baby time.

Thanks Wave! That whole concert is awesome! Substitute sax player Harumo often plays with Juna, and I wonder if Juna composed her Battlefield album with Harumo in mind because her playing with all the dirty "incorrect" sax sounds fits pits moods perfectly.

Senri studied under a drummer with a large number of hands and is one of the leading Jazz drummers in Japan.
Even the more intense drumming sounds clear.
By the way, all performers are talented solo performers.

Was unfortunately, Kozo Suganuma passed away in 2021. But yes, he even let her give students lessons and things like that. You can see from the videos he really trusted her, but I guess that's normal since she studied under him since she was 8 years old.

I just returned from Japan. I was lucky enough to see Senri play while I was there. Unfortunately, the Jazz Avengers dates didnt match but she performs with many artists daily. She obviously reads music very well. Fabulous.

And yes, you're right - playing softly requires way more "intensity", no matter what instrument you're playing.

This has somewhat happened before. They have done a couple of shows with dual drums the last couple of years, including very recently (the last one was titled: 是方博邦Rainbow Jam ☆ Twin Drums Special and was probably asked by Hirokuni Korekata since his name is in the title). I know they posted part of it last time it happened, but I can't find the video any more (I am curious if it got removed). That said, I have just found a fancam which is titled "Kanade Sato & Senri Kawaguchi DRUM OFF!", which is exactly what you were looking for (no time to watch it now, so no idea if the quality is decent enough).

Senri and Juna ARE an amazing rhythm section! I can see YOYOKA and some top bassist being this level in a few years assuming YOYOKA ever decides to join a band! The Silver Glitter outfits - not gonna happen lol. Senri IS THE TOP FEMALE DRUMMER on the planet. Oh, and no sweat dripping off her.

With virtuosos, you have used the perfect term. Not only the good Senri, who can play you so wonderfully dizzy while shining brighter than the sun, but also the others. ✨
Thank you homegnome & Wave! Without you, this would probably have stayed under my radar. 🙋🏻‍♂✌🏻

@@homegnome2429 Yes, I've spotted them, but thanks for the tip anyway. 🙏🏻 I've already seen 2 more of the videos, No 3 and 5, and I'll definitely watch the rest later this evening. :)
It's a nice change from what I normally listen to, but still has some of the elements of it with some of the instruments.

Should add the latest line-up of Hagane, with Junna, to your list
