My Apoligies Dean for getting g your name wrong however is 3am here inTasmania Australia, and I am just a silly old bugger and couldn't stop listening. I would say best of luck for your canoe paddle, but you plan to well, some people plan to fail by not planning, you and your team are excellent.

Great to see so many different sporting communities getting behind guys like this, wired up to constantly be doing something and achieving great things, absolutely essential for transitioning out of the forces.

Great and congrats, one question thought Scott. You mentioned the leg muscles wastage from the accident, how much improvement was there after the bike ride.

I always wondered why the SBS went tri-service in their selection pipeline while US DevGru has always stayed a SEAL dominated tier 1 Unit?

On Jocko podcast Dean said, if I recall, it was partly down to numbers: otherwise good potential SOF candidates from the Royal Marines wouldn't get to SBS, or even apply, due to specific issues with diving, some had prev head injuries, some just didn't like the SBS diving evolutions, but they would be good potential SAS troopers.
High quality Army candidates for SBS helped boost their numbers. Also I assume, turning 2 selection pipelines into one must have saved money.

As the lad above said I believe it was a numbers thing but there was also a big reshuffle of UKSF. The UK have what's referred to as elite regiments which are the Paras and Royal Marines but like the US where the Rangers supporter Delta, the Paras supported sas but they were never officially SF. During Iraq and Afghan they realised the importance of SF so they made 1Para SF and brgade of Royal Marines and formed SFSG to support sas, SBS and SRR and pathfinder plt. Which is the ne t point. They did this because sas were overloaded so that's why they officially put SFSG under UKSF command. They then changed 14 intel corpe to SRR to relieve the recce load of sas and Brough the SBS to "tier 1" because the SBS before that were kind of more like a marsoc than say Devgru or Delta. They were pretty much just specialised bootnecks who would usually support sas boat troop similar to how 1Para supported saw. So basically that's why they do a joint selection because the SBS were in this sort of SF limbo. Not quite as good as sas but too good to be elite. As a result that's when they opened it up to tri force and they changed the lid because paras and stuff wouldn't join if they just wore the regular green lid. Nothing wrong with green lid btw but it's just that its the same as the maroon one it was seen as a step sideways not up.
As for why it's different to the US, well that's purely a numbers thing. The has a population of around 65 million and military force consisting of about 50 people so it splits it's SF up into troops. So the SAS and SBS do the same thing and take over from rotations from one another but they have different roles withing the reg, so mountain troop, boat, air troop and mobility troop and I suspect sbs is the same. They then rotate within that so a certain squadron will be on counter terror, while another us out on deployment and another is training ect. As I said just comes down to numbers really. Even the Paras are supported by 1 rifle gurkhas and I believe the Royal Irish Rangers now because there's only like 1700 paras or something so even they're struggling for numbers

@@me5969 @Me the SBS have always been Tier 1, they're just as good if not better than the SAS and DEVGRU is their US counterpart aswell.
And in regards to what the units do, both UK and US Tier one units do the same, they all have the same structure and all are mainly based on the SAS, they're all also very small

    (Bore Sighting your Time Machine
    with Shadow Boxing)
Just as the sun comes before the shadow boxer, and the shadow boxer before his shadow, at the speed of light.
So is the source of knowledge across the three states of consciousness. Enlightenment shines down on awareness, that reflects on memory.
Now set your sights on the direction of time. The future shines down on the present, that reflects the past.
THE FUTURE IS PASSED DOWN, and the PAST RISES UP.
"The years transform into a moment that defines an age. The weight of the Future is the Past, and by the Present it is belayed. When the present circumstance becomes unbearable the past will come crashing down destroying the future."
"We know he who has memory is from the past.
We understand he who is aware is in the present.
Then we must acknowledge that he who is enlightened is from the future."
