Nat Symons Actually they said in an interview that it was going to be based on The Temptations, a band in the 1960's because The Temptations split up because David Ruffin (the lead singer of the band) wanted to rename the band "David Ruffin and the Temptations" and the band thought that David was self-centered and a control freak and that the fame from being in the band changed him. So, they split up. "Our Lawyer Made..." is about getting absorbed by fame and being selfish and getting a big head from the limelight and so Fall Out Boy was going to name it "I'm David Ruffin and These are My Temptations" because the story behind that title is about getting absorbed by fame and so is the song. But, Fall Out Boy's lawyer was afraid David Ruffin would sue. So, they changed it to exactly that.
Maggie Singer Oh, and "Disloyal of the Water Buffalos" is based off of The Flintstones because Fred Flintstone from the show was in a secret society type group called "The Loyal Order of the Water Buffalos". Hope this helps. :)
I heard this song a long time ago (BEFORE I liked FOB) and searched up lyrics for it and it said FOB, BUT I NEVER PAYED ATTENTION TO THE NAME OF THE BAND AND NOW I'M RE LISTENING I'M FREAKING OUT REALIZING I LOVED FOB BEFORE I LOVED FOB
darles this happened to me with not only FOB but also MCR cause my sister was pop punk and so her favorite band was green day so I knew those songs but knew it was them only to never know I was singing a real song when I sung the beginning of welcome to the black parade in my childhood. Figuring it out only this year sucks but it makes everything more beautiful.
The first time i bught the CD i was in love. I went and brough 4 more CDs, for my mom and dads house and car. Then i had a bad day i was listenign to coffees for closers and then i took a close at the cover and was pissed cause a bear at pig and was giving his friend a piggie back ride then i thought to myself......wheres patrick. But it was ok they were all inside on the cover. Thanks for making great music, i cant evend escribe how wonderful it is and how grearful i am for fall out boy.
I love the parallel between this song and Thriller from IOH. They're both the first song on the album, and they create the same feeling when you listen to them, like 'this is the start of something great'. It really sets up the rest of the CD.
I don't get why fans got so mad that this album wasn't like their old stuff. The songs pretty much written in the same way, they've just added a few things. I love it!
Why is no one talking about the line “I promise you anything but another shot at life” it’s truly beautiful how I think or what I think this person is saying is I promise to do or give anything to you to stay but there are things that are out of reach such as if the person kills them self the person won’t be able to bring the person back and that why the person is willing to do anything to make the person stay
Hey, Fall Out Boy, thank you for being here for me since the fifth grade, you don't know how many times you have helped me in my life, how many times I have listened to you while crying my eyes out and not knowing where I am going in my life. You don't know about the night I almost comitted suicide listening to you. Now, coming back to you after all of the therapy I have gone through, you've proven to me that you're apart of me. You make me happy and love life. Thank you.
loved that record just for Patrick doing the part normally done by whoever does the ''I will never end up like him...'' (at 3 minutes into the song) part himself on ''What a Catch'' and kicking ass doing it. Love them forever, however hard I try not to.
FOB is perfect for having songs with great metaphors on every album. Music is whatever you want it to be though, so listen to the words and draw your own conclusion.
This is honestly my favorite Fall Out Boy Song. Folie á Deux was a massive step forward for them musically, and is definitely one of the better Modern Albums.
This is the first time Ive been listening to Fall Out Boy since about 2008. Ive been listening to all of from under the cork tree, folie a deux, and so on. But all i have to say is, wow. fall out boy is fucking awesome. In the time i wasn't listening to them i got into coheed and cambria, avenged sevenfold plus still listening to bands i always loved like blink 182, rage against the machine. Anyways wow, after not listening to them for 3 years i still remember all the words to their songs.. :)
Hey everybody! My name is Michael Bellizzi & I'm the singer in a band called Famous. Really love this tune & as a band we know how hard it is to make it. Especially today when there are hardly any bands left. But staying true to yourself is what we believe in & keeping the music alive is what we stand for. If you could take a few minutes of your time to listen to our songs, it would honestly mean the world to me & my band. Spread the word & lets keep the music alive TOGETHER! Peace & love:)
Ok, I understand why people are mad at FOB because they think they changed, and they're right, they did. But they're not bad now, they're just at a different stage in their life. They're growing up more. And, frankly, I don't get why people hate this album. It's not like their others, but it's still really good, maybe one of my favorites.
My favorite lines are "I'm coming apart at the seams. pitching myself for leads in other people's dreams. Like buzz, buzz, buzz. Doc, there is a hole where something was. Doc there is a hole where something was...
Shout out to these lyrics for saying the line is "IMperfect boys with their perfect lives" instead of "And perfect". I always though IMperfect was way better writing.
@XvHelloXv I read an article about them, and pete said something about him never joining with them again, so technically they're not broken up, just one of the members quit.
Hey, let's not say anything bad about other singers, unless there are a lot of people who dislike that singer. People are allowed to have different tastes in music and you shouldn't dislike someone just for having a different taste. Save Rock and Roll is actually a good album, just because they changed their genre it doesn't mean they necessarily suck. Sleeping With Sirens is good too. Although I do accept people who have a different taste of music, I despise people strongly dislike one genre.
they're really talented people! FOB ftw! their lyrics dont make a sense at the first sight, but they do after a second listening. but they do have really weird titles though...
@MrRisingScepter - No matter what band you listen to, there will always be idiots who try showing off who listened to a band longer by saying all their newer stuff sucks compared to their old stuff, despite the fact that most people who say stuff like this haven't even been listening to the band for longer than a year or two...You can't change them, and you can't get rid of them, there're too many of them...you're best off just ignoring them...
I don't care what any of Fall Out Boy's 'true fans' who've hated the band since 2005 say: Folie a Deux is probably one of the best albums of all time.
Cork tree is best
This is second best
My top three FOB albums are, in order, Cork Tree, Folie, Infinity on High.
literally I just look at their song titles and go "what"
"our lawyer made us change the name of this song so we wouldnt get sued" WHAT.
Silly Dread "tell that mick he just made my list of things to do today" wha T
Nat Symons Actually they said in an interview that it was going to be based on The Temptations, a band in the 1960's because The Temptations split up because David Ruffin (the lead singer of the band) wanted to rename the band "David Ruffin and the Temptations" and the band thought that David was self-centered and a control freak and that the fame from being in the band changed him. I'm pretty sure it's just a rumor, but maybe it was the bands plan B name for the song.
Same in 2013 when I heard Mighty Fall on radio and loved it and realized that it was by fall out boy and freaked out
darles this happened to me with not only FOB but also MCR cause my sister was pop punk and so her favorite band was green day so I knew those songs but knew it was them only to never know I was singing a real song when I sung the beginning of welcome to the black parade in my childhood. This is such a beautiful song and I love FOB so much their concerts to me are absolutely magical
Jesus shut the fuck up.
Thumbs up if you think this is in the top 10 for best Fall Out Boy songs. I certainly do.
Good thing i write sins not tragedies in that case
Oh i c what you did there.
PRAISE THE LORD OK UR CLEVER I LIKE YOU
your picture gives me life.
And if you look to the left, you'll see the lack of water buffaloes or their disloyalty to order that are described by this song.
yes
"Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy"
That's what this song is all about everybody.
man better listen to the whole song not just that one line hahaha
Jayman493 i sing sins not tragedies
yeah, What A Catch, Donnie is literally one of the next tracks. They're going against their own words
I'm just hearing these songs now. What have I been doing with my life?
+Anna Wasson (I haven't listened to any from this album but I have all the others shhh)
i know this comment is a year old but SAME?
Detox just to retrox
How do they come up with these names???
usually they're movie references or other pop culture references. this one i think is in reference to the flintstones.
Drugs...
I think I heard somewhere that (for this song) they were making fun of the Elks Club: "Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks"
why did everyone not like this album its my favorite one.
Moon Tale95 same
I would say it's because you can't understand the lyrics, but then From Under the Cork Tree would be the most disliked
i loved it as a kid. bought the CD, import'd it to my PS3, put it on my lil MP3 players and everythang
This shall be played at my funeral.
does anybody else think that the person in the background singing "another shot at life" at 2:59 sounds like Brendon???
sometimes i forget how much i love this album and then just I LOVE THIS SO FUCKING MUCH OMG
yup
Incredible. There's no group in rock today with better lyrics or melodies.
Sometimes I think Folie a Deux is a concept album about Kurt Cobain.
Elaborate on this concept
Patricks voice is just, omg. AMAZING! petes the pretty face, pats the amazing talent! andy and joe, you rock 2!
This is my go-to break up song. I love it so much
bro gave us time to reflect about how good this song is
Actually, I have a wide range of music that I listen to, thank you very much.
The first time i bught the CD i was in love. I went and brough 4 more CDs, for my mom and dads house and car. "fell outta bed! butterfly bandage but dont worry!"
I love this song, I've listened to it about four times in the last hour. I figure I should comment now ^^
Folie A Deux is the best Rock album Ive Ever heard. Patrick Keep Singing.
yes i agree, it gives you the kind of 'refreshed' feeling when you first listen to an album. their songs get better as they go down the row (:
I don't get why fans got so mad that this album wasn't like their old stuff. The songs pretty much written in the same way, they've just added a few things. I love it!

"There's a hole where something was."
So glad they're back.
This song rocks! I hope they make it into a single. That would be awesome.
loved that record just for Patrick doing the part normally done by whoever does the ''I will never end up like him...'' (at 3 minutes into the song) part himself on ''What a Catch'' and kicking ass doing it. Love them forever, however hard I try not to.

Haters gonna Hate. I love Fall Out Boy all their songs are awesome in there own way.
The victory song? ? ? I think YES!
they're really talented people! FOB ftw!
