Welcome home 🇰🇪! I ❤ seeing Motherland visitors here and ❤ to hear your thoughts on our island. I've noticed that our Motherland visitors are often turned off by having to pay for beach access. I'm sure you understand that tourism is our largest foreign exchange earner and beaches require security, cleaning and other maintenance. People must be paid to do that work.
Thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed myself in Jamaica❤️. When you put it like that, it actually makes sense, I didn't think of it like that. I guess we find it unusual because in the majority of other countries, the beaches are free to access, and so it is odd when you have to pay.
Jamaica has more beaches than people so if there is no fee for some of them the government would not be able to keep them at high standards. Please don’t bring your local understanding to my country. I watched enough videos of very young children in Kenya who are homeless on the street. We don’t have any such issue in Jamaica. Every country chooses what it prioritize because in the end what a country prioritize is always a tradeoff. It is nothing personal but I hear too many foreigners especially Africans making this same commentary over and over again. It is especially annoying when more than 99 percent of the Beaches in Jamaica are free and the fees for using beaches were not set up to keep local out but instead set up so tourists who by the way major foreign currency contributors to Jamaica economy and locals can coexist. I find it interesting how you don’t mention how locals only pay half price of what foreigners pay to access many local attractions which is a win for local Jamaicans. Most countries in the world don’t offer their local population such perks
