  • How many millions of people will be forced to leave their homes by 2050? This documentary looks at the so-called hotspots of climate change in the Sahel zone, Indonesia and the Russian Tundra.
Lake Chad in the Sahel zone has already shrunk by 90 percent since the 1960s due to the increasing heat. About 40 million people will be forced to migrate to places where there is enough rainfall. Migration has always existed as a strategy to adapt to a changing environment. But the number of those forced to migrate solely because of climate change has increased dramatically since the 1990s. It is a double injustice: after becoming rich at the expense of the rest of the world, the industrialized countries are now polluting the atmosphere with their emissions and bringing a second misfortune to the inhabitants of the poorer regions. One of them is Mohammed Ibrahim: as Lake Chad got hotter and drier, he decided to go where the temperatures were less extreme and there was still a little water, trekking with his wife, children and 70 camels from Niger to Chad and then further south. The journey lasted several years and many members of his herd died of thirst. Now he and his family are living in a refugee camp: they only have seven camels left. Mohammed is one of many who have left their homelands in the Sahel - not because of conflict and crises, but because of the high temperatures. He's a real climate refugee.

What happens in Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan, Bolivia, Syria, Kenya, and 50 other countries does not stay in just those countries. It is a global issue that will effect all human dwellers on Earth. Our habitats are disappearing rapidly, without which no animal can survive, including Humans.

Excellent point, Mark Young, the world is like a ship, if some of the crew are not fed and have no water, the whole thing is threatened. We need to cooperate and share resources to survive the great trials ahead. We cannot afford to have nations fail. I recently listened to a new teaching called "Preventing Collapse and the Wars of Desperation" (free online, part of the New Message dot org) that contains much wisdom in this regard.

So developed countries did reduce , now we get inundated by the overpopulated , can you see the irony in that ?

I lived in Jakarta '93-'97 and can sincerely say that they, and people in all South East Asian countries, are some of the friendliest in the world. I've traveled in all these countries and worked in 5 of them.
On my 2nd day in Jakarta, I was asked to put into good English, a document which was to be read at some International event. The gist of it was that the Dayak people of Kalimantan were to be labelled "forest squatters" and were to be evicted. It was so that Bob Hassan, the biggest logger in Indonesia could cut the whole place down. This explains the mudslides and probably much more.

"Climate" isn't even a scientific term and the tell is that there are no metrics for "climate." This means that It cannot be measured any more than "a lot" or "a little" can. Climate is purposely vague. The desert has a hot dry climate or the rain forest has a warm moist climate are useful phrases. The climate is "changing" is hogwash. There is no such thing as "the climate" anymore than there is "the opinion" Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, likewise their climates. "The" opinion is changing? WTF? The "opinion crisis?" How many climates exist? How many are changing? How many are getting "better" how many "worse?"
When does a climate period begin? when does it end? How long is a period? How many climate periods are their in 100 years, 1000 years a million years? How many are changing one direction and how many are changing in the opposite direction? How many have no discernible change? How can it be measured. How many points does a hailstorm get? How many points does a pleasant warm sunny day get? Which is better: colder or warmer? Wetter,or drier? Are storms good or bad?

The the back of the 200 page IPCC science report it tells the truth as a legal back stop that it only took its greenhouse gas samples at 20,000 meters altitude and only that one altitude! It is high school science that all greenhouse radiant energy is completely absorbed by greenhouse gases by 20 meters from the radiating surface, typically earth's surface. This is same type of making that takes place when a beverage is labeled "All Natural Fruit Flavors" then it tells the truth in the ingredient "contains no actual fruit juices". Global warming has been stalled at bout 1°C since 1991 with no correlation with carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Make sure you don't mislead your students by the IPCC marketing.

The unarmed people of Syria were and are escaping armies of people who have arms and have an agenda that unarmed people will never accept. The is "political change" not "climate change"
When did "climate" and not our seedy politicians become a cause of war. Was Hitler fleeing "climate change" when he invaded Poland?
What, if if not pseudoscience, would ascribe every negative human experience from minor annoyance to the political calamity of war to too much human freedom?

That would require quite a vivid imagination of the kind that the documentary movie "Mars Attacks" provoked.
Sea level is a local phenomenon that is primarily governed by plate tectonics, continental rebound, wind and water erosion, land subsidence caused by pumping subsurface water for agriculture, industrial, and commercial use. The Island nation of Tuvalu was suppose to have disappeared beneath the waves by now according to "experts" (Ex-Spurts). Instead it has grown in size. WTF?
"Global" sea level rise is largely a fraud, although it is safe to assume that the seas did rise some 400 feet as the 2 mile thick continental glaciers covering half of North America and Eurasia disappeared starting 15,000 years ago.
You can buy a 1/4 acre lot right at sea level for over a million dollars on the Florida Keys. Obama did much the same on Martha's Vineyard. Do you really thinks he believes the same bullshit his crowd is serving up to all those gullible fools who suck it up like mother's milk ?

I am surprised by the volume of hostile comments here. Whether or not you accept that humans have accelerated climate change, many once arable areas are becoming arid, ocean levels are rising, underground aquifers are shrinking, which in turn causes land to subside/flood, more permafrost is melting, and worldwide fish stock are shrinking. This DOES increase forced migration. At home here, the flood of Honduran families recently appearing at the U.S. border was largely caused by drought.

If climate change is actually real? But the young generation have been brain washed with it.
Was called global warming back in 1800's and many other times through history. In the 80's was still global warming but after 18 years where it actually fell 0.2 degrees they changed to climate change. Then Nasa changed its data so they could show a rise. Then somehow many others changed the old data to show a rise. Australia just did it 2 weeks ago until then you would see just natural fluctuations.
Apparently all the old thermometers weren't accurate which is strange since they were used to get a lot of our science knowledge we have today.
I do believe there is climate change. We have cut forests down. We have used most of the ground water basin and put it in the atmosphere.Co2 isn't an issue until recent changes to the ice core samples data it showed Co2 at 1400 in history while there was living mammals.
It is just a continuation of the eugenics movement that is starting to gain ground for the first time since WWII

It is no longer the same season were used to before. It would be harder for us to grow trees because climare change already changed the environment. Some foreign corporations are in these countries exploiting their natural resources until depleted. These should be paying a carbon tax. Not the poorly managed and under-funded countries who have more problems to solve than they have money to address them with. Regenerative Agriculture is badly needed in the deserted Sahel. Herders have over-graized these lands for generations, and monoculture that we pushed on these farmers has sped up the soil depletion there. If the country can begin to rewild lands deserted by their owners, perhaps the demise of these places can be turned around, but we must hurry. As do long as our fossil fuel use climbs no strategy will be sufficient to turn away the worst effects of climate change there, nor anywhere. The difficulties are mounting every year!

2nd no one is talking about meteorlogical warfare weapons or the global HAARP grid. No one quotes any of the science from the numerous credible studies or credible journal which indicated weather modification and mental disruption as biproducts of using this tech- also was the base argument for funding of HAARP nearly 2 decades before funding in 2001. The same time most climate scientists quote as proof for cataclysmic weather phenomenon. 3rd. Why not remind everyone that those current "MODELS" for mans influence in climate change absolutely did not work using factual historical records. Think for real, when was the last time goverments have actually tried to make the world a better place for the common folk? Its all about pleasing the wealthy groups...dont be so close minded and do some research...people who you call conspiracy theorists actually got their asses out to do their deep research and not some random google wikipedia cough cough govt sources to build their opinions. Chapter 7 contains Jefferson's observations on the climate of Virginia, including local warming:- the year 1801
"A change in our climate however is taking place very sensibly. Both heats and colds are become much more moderate within the memory even of the middle-aged. Snows are less frequent and less deep. They do not often lie, below the mountains, more than one, two, or three days, and very rarely a week. They are remembered to have been formerly frequent, deep, and of long continuance. The elderly inform me the earth used to be covered with snow about three months in every year. The rivers, which then seldom failed to freeze over in the course of the winter, scarcely ever do so now. This change has produced an unfortunate fluctuation between heat and cold, in the spring of the year, which is very fatal to fruits. From the year 1741 to 1769, an interval of twenty-eight years, there was no instance of fruit killed by the frost in the neighbourhood of Monticello. An intense cold, produced by constant snows, kept the buds locked up till the sun could obtain, in the spring of the year, so fixed an ascendency as to dissolve those snows, and protect the buds, during their developement, from every danger of returning cold. The accumulated snows of the winter remaining to be dissolved all together in the spring, produced those overflowings of our rivers, so frequent then, and so rare now."
In 1816 winters had become so cold snow never melted one summer, and remained harsh and cold until 1850, when warming began.

Have ecologists considered importing plant species into the melting tundra that would consume the dying organic matter like fertilizer? Nature likely would do this herself, but it would take a long time and much of the organic material would break down into gases in the mean time.

    • @Erin-rg3dw
      @Erin-rg3dw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Bringing non-native species could create a new ecological problem. Look at the pythons in Florida, wild pigs in the Southern US, and snakes in Hawaii. All of those were brought in for benign reasons and they've become disasters. Finding a native plant that they can propagate and plant to help control the spread would be better, but the tundra will still continue to melt.

What they don't tell you this has happened in Earth's history before. Some islands that were great couple thousand years ago are now underwater. The planet has Historically gone through very hot and cold periods. It's science. This happens with no human intervention.

What you ignore is the rate of change. If you look at a graph of temperature or CO2 over the last few thousand years, there is a massive upward spike as the industrial revolution kicked off.

Folks living in the Arctic are being forced to move due to rising ocean levels and melting permafrost. The melting permafrost emits methane into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. First the people are being forced to move, second the wildlife will be forced to move. This is a very serious situation.

Everything that's happening right now is natural and NOT due to CO2. From 1945 to the late 1970's atmospheric CO2 shot up like a rocket while temps fell for over 3 decades, therefore CO2 does not "drive the climate." CAGW debunked.

@@CrakenFlux That's what they have told people for centuries, the world's coming to an end and it's your fault... but still here we are huh ? It's a recycled scare story. Search : The Washington Post, November 2, 1922 "REPORT ON GLOBAL WARMING." There's also several "CLIMATE CHANGE" articles from the 1800's.

Tree planting is a necessary, NOT logging and cutting everything down. Using intelligence in building is essential without wood being the main ingredient for structure. This is what the ancients always did, big industry lost their way when the GODs ALMOST wiped them out last precession event of their arrival.

Please advocate veganism, the biggest thing for climate change. Methane and feedlots produce methane, 10x carbon forcing. All for an unhealthy unnecessary evil. Please research and advocate veganism

@Shep Raynham what rate are you talking about?
During the recent last 5 years the rate of change in temperatures is NEGATIVE (or -0.88C per century). Of course this is not a long term trend just the last 5 years but it's THERE! Your assumptions are not!
Moreover, from a recently published study in Health Physics and the conclusion in their abstract:
"We determined that in 2018, atmospheric anthropogenic fossil CO2 represented 23% of the total emissions since 1750 with the remaining 77% in the exchange reservoirs. Our results show that the percentage of the total CO2 due to the use of fossil fuels from 1750 to 2018 increased from 0% in 1750 to 12% in 2018, much too low to be the cause of global warming."
It seems to me that you have no idea what you are talking about, just like 99.9999% of the people that are willing to swallow government propaganda that gives them the excuse to tax us to death for our energy needs along with big corporations (including Big oil).

Well done. Too often the climate crises gets confused with other important factors such as political instability, war, overpopulation, historical over grazing, poverty and the like. They are intertwined, but often, for example, the middles east's problems, overlook these factors in terms of migration pressure.
