BALAMBU CHALA PYAW[KHADAG JATRA]S
Balambu, lies in western part of Kathmandu valley which is rich in various religious and cultural aspect. Dashain is one of the most important festival among all.
The first day of Dashain starts from Ghatasthapana. During Dashain first day is spent by worshipping god and goddesses.
Normal worshipping is done till ninth day and tenth day. Tenth day is regarded as the main of day of Dashain festival which is also
called Bijaya Dashami. In this day challaw pyawaigu [Khadga jatra]is celebrated in Balambu. Khadga jatra starts from the kot
ghar where the puja is done from the day of ghatasthapana. In this day puja starts by the head of guthi member among 35 member.
after purifying there body by getting shower and wearing the pure costume. All the member should not eat anything until
the puja gets over. Among the 35 members 9 members will take part in the jatra as 9 goddess awatar such as Kumari, Mahalaxmi, Bhairav, Ganesh, Barahi, Sanchar Narshingha, and other 3. As the part
of festival sword is worshipped in the kot ghar. then taken around the town in a procession. the procession starts from the kot ghar and marches to lachhi wearing the goddesses costume carrying the ancient sword[daivik Shakti tarwar].The sword is more than 1000yrs old who are full of daivik shakti. During the procession, the viewers are not allowed to wear leather product such as leather belt shoes etc.
They shouldn't watch the jatra from windows or terraces. They shouldn't cross the way. If the viewers violate the rules they get punished. The 9 member can attack by their holy sword. If they use the sword it is believed as the curse to the person who violated the jatra. After finishing the procession around the town, bhuyu fasi[grey pumpkin] is get cut by 9 members.
Bhuyu fasi is cut as the devil head in the front of kot ghar turn wise. After completing the faci cutting ritual puja is done and the 9 member
