Good luck with your land. A lot of land they sell in NM like that has no vehicle access without crossing someone else's land, but you don't know it until you get there. Also, be safe. There is a lot of crime there, yes even off grid.
My brother and I were in NM for a week or two, mostly stayed around Gallup. Saw some land for pretty cheap out there, so he started thinking about what it would take to make it livable, and he looked into getting a well, if I remember right he said you have to pay for water rights and digging a well could cost over $40k! Because they are so far above sea level, they have to dig deep to get to water. You can put in huge water tanks and get water delivered, or get 5 gallon jugs and make weekly or monthly runs into town depending on how many you can haul and your use.
Yeah you'd really have to run the numbers to see if it just makes much more sense to get water delivered or do runs into town -- I mean $40K would pay for a lot of jugs of water lol
Hi I enjoy your content. Just a suggestion, you might want to get a DASH cover (order from a Subaru dealership) if you will be in areas with high sun. It really cuts down on the glare, make sure you don't get a light color as that will increase the glare. We living in Nevada and have found a DASH cover helps with the heat from the sun baking you while you drive.
duly impressed that you did this upbeat vid with a migraine! I've been curious re buying a plot out west, but am troubled by the water question, now and going forward.
When there is an accident with a loss of life they have to shut it down. They recreate the accident. I'd imagine it's cause they are building the legal case to go after sombody for a possible crime (manslaughter/murder) That or I know if they have to airlift they usually shut the entire roadway down for safety as well. Also I know that rest stop. That place was AWESOME! I stayed there several times during covid. I think there is a BIG truck stop with some nick nacks that I always wanted to checkout around there!!!! I was passing through during the pandemic so didn't get to see it. Also if your going south of Albuquerque on i-25 you gotta check out the "Walking Sands" rest area! my all time favorate rest area!!!! it's absoulutely beatiful at night!!! oh and ... If you do head North on i-25 check out the La Bajada Rest Area just before you get into Santa Fe That is my OTHER all time favorate rest area!! Beatiful views of the mountains and freeway heading into them and the city lights at night it is beyond out of this world and it's a FREE REST STOP! hahah! I miss those rest stops such amazing places to pass through.. Glad your enjoying your trip .
I'm currently camping out in my truck at Walmart in Alamogordo. I left Oklahoma April 2nd and camped out in Clovis for 3 weeks, then Roswell, then Carlsbad, and now Alamogordo. New Mexico is the bomb. People are laid back here.
I don't think you will have an issue driving down that road at all. The Forester Wilderness should have more than enough clearance and has the skid plates on it just in case. If you go really slow your first few times through, you will see it's no problem at all.
You need some backwoods country land that can support you. Wild animals, river for fishing and a well for water ! Plant you a garden, cabin amongst some 100 ft.trees. Now with this you could survive. That is what works for me .
@@elizabethoffgrid Thank you for your kind response. I checked some properties in NV and AZ. Each county might be different but those county require a septic tank installed ($7.5-$10K) if we build a “house” to live. They only allow 30 days a year for camping and so forth. After having watched your videos NM could be a good option…. I will research more. I am planning to be on the road as full time next Spring…. Thank you and our paths might cross. 😊
First time seeing you, reach out to me I live in New Mexico and if you have any questions about where your land is located I may be able to enlighten you.
Land without water , is it not useless ? Aquifers are seriously been depleted not just in America , All over the planet , we need to get clever with how we use and collect water , how can you grow food ? Do you need so much land , I get you know what your plan is , 👍all that driving using gas etc , you can use solar no problem , it’s so barren the soil is depleted lifeless , I know it’s not expensive , and your used to this terrain . For parking it’s perfect but you do stand out unprotected Wishing you the best Yes it will be yours and nobody can tell you to move 😊

Yep I think that is true for land everywhere -- road access is a dealbreaker

The area where your land is at, it's beautiful.
Hello Elizabeth I always enjoy your vids regardless of the content. I am now following you on Instagram as well! Happy travels!
Great to hear!

Yes the water question is a legit issue

This. I have a 2018 forester and I have taken it on WAY worse roads than that with no issue at all.
Thanks for sharing! Yep I just need to get used to it :)
Waves hi from eastern New Mexico..Sunrises and sunsets are the best.
Hi!!
👋 🚙 👀 Water, put in a parking cover & set up for rainwater collection. I think in NM it’s legal for personal residence, not for commercial use.
There is no rainwater collection. It rains less than 11 inches a year!
@@TheNoonie50 people collect rainwater near Tucson, AZ where the rainfall averages a similar amount.
Yes I plan to do rainwater collection during the monsoons -- might as well get everything possible!
Plant some trees, scorched earth. I love trees !!! Got water ?
No water anywhere near there...gotta haul it in...:)

Glad you found what works for you! In that area some people have wells, but it is always a bit of luck.
Hi, just take your Subbie to your property that car will surprise you. The road you showed on this video is just that a road not an " Off Road". LOL 😆
Maybe consider getting your windows tinted because of headaches. 🍃🌸🍃
Yes I did get the back windows tinted
I prefer to drive at night. No sun, no glare, avoid road construction. But you potentially miss seeing stunning landscapes.
Yes one of my fav times to drive is before sunrise - little traffic, no glare, very peaceful!
Do we need to install a septic tank if decided to build a house or live permanently? Is there a mailing service nearby...?
Most people do septic but that’s not the only way

Welcome to NM
Be careful driving that stretch of hwy during windy season.
There is a video How the UN is holding back the Sahara desert, I think a land like yours could be amazing. Thanks for the vid, great as always 💖💖💖
Interesting!

thanks for the offer!
Can the land get water and electric?
It would need a well for water and solar for electric

People in the area have wells -- I'd only build somewhere if I sink a well and get water
