    I can't even imagine what your workload that you are dealing with!!! I thought my one hive and I just got 2 packages were the handful!!! Set your course and work hard and ask for the Lord's guidance in your decisions!!!

    I'd split that problem child hive all the way down to 2-3 frame nucs. You'll eliminate a potential swarm plus build in hive numbers. Graft, and throw a cell in each split.

      I think I may have turned them away from swarming and into the honey flow. We’ll see.

    Great video, the editing of making a good video is something most people take for granted. I bet you're working your tail off, raising a family and trying to do something like you are trying to do is a hardship. And bettering yourself through hard work is almost foreign to people now days. Thanks for the video.

    If you are by yourself a drywall lift is awesome for installing panels on roofs and the upper panels on walls. Last time i checked they wernt too expensive and well worth it especially if you are going to do more building....if not they should be available to rent.

      I think I can limp through this little project without one, but I do wish I had a buddy who had one.

      If a man wants to make friends, just buy a truck and then a deck over trailer. You’ll have friends you didn’t even know you had. Same with a car lift. 🤣

    One thing I briefly looked into was plastic frames. If memory serves me right, I could buy plastic frames cheaper than buying and assembling wood frames myself, especially if you figure in time. (If you hired someone in the future or just your own time.) I was talking with a gentleman that has started his own bee business, (he's 7 years in now) he said " even if they cost more for plastic frames, I can make more money, what I can't make is more time." Now that may seem backward to some, but it really made sense to me. I have currently made 300 plus deep frames and 300 or so mediums. I can't remember how long it took to do 100 frames, but without adding the staples, glue, electricity, or my time, it was more money than plastic frames already. He also made the point that you get more cells on plastic than wood. Plus you just toss them in the box, no assembly needed. Something for you to look into, maybe. Lastly, if your buddy can't help get those panels up on the ceiling, go to a rental place and rent a drywall jack. Sorry for the long rambling comment! Lol. Thanks for the great videos!

      Thanks Chuck! I’m trialing some Pierco frames now and want to get some Acorn to try too. I went with the wood because I had a lot of experience with them. Next year will probably be plastic for time’s sake.

      @Duck River Honey acorn heavy wax plastic frames are just awesome. Unfortunately, the bee suppliers in my area here in Canada are not bringing them in anymore. The Mann lake full plastic frames are flimsy and poorly wax coated.

      I hope the plastic doesn’t make the wooden frames (and boxes) obsolete.

      Tulip poplar is much more robust than locust. Wind and rain kill the locust bloom pretty often here.

    A sheetrock hoist from harbor freight would probably help with the frp panels.

    Rent or barrow a drywall jack to hang panels by yourself

    I have a question on the Harbo testing. I believe you are supposed to do the test when the pupa is in the purple eye stage. How do you identify a section of brood that has those bees in it and if you do the test when the brood is too young will you get an accurate test.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two field videos cover how to identify. If you try to pull younger larvae they turn to jelly and you can’t get them out, and yes you want the right age larvae to give the mites opportunity to reproduce.

    Grafting Question :
    I've noticed while doing my splits, I either wait for some hives to become hopelessly queenless or I am waiting for virgin queens to become mated. This is my first year grafting, and I'm all in and having some luck but I am curious if you stager your grafting days so that you are not overwhelmed with a vast amount of queens at one time. If you do, how much time between grafting to you personally typically wait.
    Thanks!

    Would it not save time and help with finding the queen of you went to two double deeps as a brood chamber instead of 4 mediums? 20 frames vs 40?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would’ve had to split harder or another time to keep them in 3 mediums/2 deeps. Less frames may make it easier, but I never have much luck finding queens with a hive in that condition. I would usually put an excluder between each box and come back in 5-6 days.

    Did u split 7 days out before the virgin queen arrivals?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I let brood age 6 days min. Some was 8 days. I held it over an excluder and then knocked down cells.

    • @jeffbrooks6491
      @jeffbrooks6491 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DuckRiverHoney okay. That’s what I plan to do. Seems as though it just significantly reduce the chances of queen cells forming if held over a queen excluder with pheromone present for those 8 days. I have 10 of Cory’s queens coming May 2nd.
