    Looking good so far, just a suggestion before you put your Trans back in I would take the flywheel down and get it resurfaced before I put on the clutch, they just seem to work better that way 😉

      @NickDowner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooo thanks for the heads up! I actually bought a new flywheel :) I was researching where to get a resurfaced in my town and apparently most people just go and buy new ones since they aren't horribly expensive. Hopefully it fits 😀

      @@NickDowner don't forget the loctite on the flywheel bolts, the 4 liter,and the 258c.i.d are known for backing out

    Nick you need to change your last name brother! You are so positive about doing all this nasty dirty work. Should be Nick “Optimist” or “Upper” instead of Downer😏.. Jeep progress is coming along good my friend. I have a 80 CJ5 that I’m working, but someone else did most of the hard stuff already. Thanks for the inspiration!

      Haha!! The project has definitely had its ups and downs for sure but I've enjoyed learning and watching it be restored piece by piece 🙂 thanks for the encouraging words!

    Would it be a good idea to put a layer of Rust-Oleum/rust inhibitor on prior to the raptor liner? Or some other product? Under side and on top inside? To inhibit rust more? I bet your arms and muscles were sore after all that sanding by hand! Thank you! You are brave for jumping right in there! Also, would it be a good idea to spray the liner inside with the roll bar being off first? Then put it back on after it is raptor painted and protected? I was thinking that is just another layer between to two metal surfaces to stop rust?

    • @NickDowner
      @NickDowner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes to all the above! I would definitely pull the bar off and treat the inside/underside with por15 or something. Then you can do your bed liner. If you go to raw metal I think you can use something called por15 metal prep to make it stick better.... I forgot to do that on mine. If you're able I'd totally get the whole frame/cab sand blasted.....it would save you tons of time ( I didn't have the time to send it off myself but it would have been nice)

    Are you going to install a tailgate? I have found that's easier than trying to replace the rear solid panels . I have a CJ6 build with a glass tub I plan on putting one into as well.

      Great question! I'm not entirely sure yet ... I kind of like the look without a tailgate but I couldn't find many options to purchase a non-tailgate replacement piece. Are you putting a tailgate on yours? Thanks for watching!

      @@NickDowner Yes. I am putting a tailgate in our cj6. I purchased a tailgate surround from classic enterprises and my wife bought me a Tailgate with the 70's Jeep script 5 years ago or so. I think classic sells a full closed in panel if you want to try and replace the closed in section you have now. I liked the flat panel in our 73 cj5 but really liked putting a tailgate in it later on down the line. I used a cheaper tailgate surround unit back then but it was really poor quality compared to the fully welded classic unit. Really gave it a willys ish type feel to it after it was sorted out and in the jeep. Plus it was handy on the trail and for outings with the kids as a place to sit. Just recalling all that made me want to put one in the Cj6 we have now. If you want to get the surround and tailgate just get one marked 55-75. It'll be the same as the 76 and newer cj5's with a tailgate. They never changed save for the script on the tailgate. Be cool to maybe get a Willys scripted one to throw everyone off! :) Lemme see if I can find classic enterprises full section so you at least have that option if you dont want to do a tailgate. Keep in mind it may be a lot of body work to get it replaced with the same closed off rear section and to have it look right.
