Suggestion- keep one of each color of mum. Set it up on a table and have people vote for which three colors are their favorite. Tally up the winners and focus on the top 5 or 6 next year. You could have them set up in color family and say “pick your favorite yellow, pick your favorite orange, pick your favorite red, pick your favorite “other” color. My take is you have an over abundance of yellow red/burgundy option- all beautiful in their own right. I work in construction industry and I can confirm people have difficulty if there are more than three options.
Red and yellow were the most popular colors last year, so I ordered more of each of those intentionally. White was not a good seller.
The greenhouse I work at grows 12,000 mums and most are a 15 minute drive away. It certainly is so much more work and requires lots of person power to handle it. As far as colour goes, white is always the first to sell out where we are. It is so interesting to see how popular colours change between areas.
but the difficult decision is the whole fun of it, no?
I love to have many color options, I might need a little bit longer to decide, but then in the end I feel like I got THE perfect one and not just whatever was available. In plants especially, the variety of colors is what fascinates me and why I am growing them. And isn't it wonderful to have several options you love and now you can decide which one you love most? how often in your everyday life do you have that beautiful problem?
Your suggestion is great though. In the end, it has to stay manageable.
That is an idea, but what people will ‘vote’ for and what they will actually buy is something completely different. The sales will be a better indication, and much easier to keep track of. I learned that when I started doing markets, people always ask you for things but then don’t necessarily buy them later on. Every fall I analyze sales before doing seed shopping or planning, it makes decisions way easier.

She's baaaack! Now that's the happy energizer bunny we all know and love :) The siding is going to look fantastic AND it will virtually eliminate the cold leaks and moisture in winter Maybe you'll be able to do that on all the greenhouses over time

I know people have a hard time when there are so many options, but I’m jealous! My local nursery will have the standards and nothing fun or exciting. I loved seeing all your varieties.
I can't recall seeing many colors at all in my stores. Yellow, Orange, Dark Red, period! This inspires me to start my own little plant business with a mum sale of myriad colors - I live far away, no competition with Nicole :)

Hi Nicole. Love everything you are doing, I worked in the nursery industry for 20 years in Australia and we had the same drippers you have for your Mum's. A tip we used to do is to put them in on more of an angle so the tube wasn't up in the air. Made them easier to remove and helped with airlocks in the tube.
Just a suggestion.

Just curious about a couple things...does your village water have chlorine in it, and if so, does it affect your mums (other plants/flowers as well). Is there a wholesale mum supplier near you that has done all of this work for you that you can buy from at the end of summer? Wow! that is a huge variety! I would not be able to pick!
