Ah, Windows 98. I have so many memories of this OS and is STILL one of my faves to this day, especially with its flexibility letting you run DOS and newer Windows programs from the early 2000s. My dad used to own a computer shop and I'd sometimes help him install 98 and XP on customers' computers as a kid.

I'm surprised how good and precise this is at emulating hardware at the exact speed it used run! Did set up various 386/486/Pentium 1 PCs with Win95 OSR2.5 on a Ryzen 7 5800X host. Is there any trick one could use to emulate a smoother mouse cursor? (used Microsoft Serial two button mouse) It feels like the mouse is at 20 Hz. I know it's probably not period correct to have like 60 Hz. These systems actually had wonky mouse movements. For usability it would just be nice. Don't think host CPU speed is the problem. 100% speed in the title bar. EDIT: Switched to PS2 mouse, not perfect - but MUCH better!
Here too, regardless of the settings... the mouse is not smooth. I always thought it was a problem with my PC, but as you mentioned, it must be some problem/adjustment in the 86box.
@@Turborider I tried PCem 17 and the problem with the mouse persists. It doesn't matter if I use Serial, PS/2... it's not smooth. It seems that the mouse has a lower refresh rate. I tried the 86box/PCem, 16mb, 32mb, P100/P166, any motherboard, any vga, Win9x, the problem is always the same with the mouse. I have Real Hardware with Win98 and I don't have these problems with the mouse, some said it was due to old Windows, old ports (serial, ps2)... but here the mouse is perfect on Real Hardware (PS/2).
@@alissonsilva1042 Totally agree with you. On real hardware it works prefectly. Blaimg it on old Windows is just an easy excuse. PCem isn't perfect either but it's better than 86Box in my opinion
I have a problem with 86Box. I’m using an HP notebook and the f keys all have features except F5. The problem with that is that when I try to release the mouse, it does not release it, it just enables airplane mode.

There have been multiple improvements to mouse handling since version 4.0 - we recommend upgrading to that for better performance.

Is there an Fn key on your keyboard? If so, press it alongside the desired function keys. So instead of pressing F8 + F12, press Fn + F8 + F12.
