Spironolactone is not an acne medication, it is used for a plethora things. It just so happens to help regulate hormonal imbalance, which can cause acne. Hence, why Dermatologist prescribe it.

I’ve never had a problem with acne until a couple of years ago and I finally decided to see a dermatologist & the doctor I spoke with diagnosed me with cystic acne- the breakouts are SO unbelievable painful and the looks fo them definitely knock the ol’ confidence in the gut 😭 The doc mentioned this RX during our last appt and I’m not gonna lie.. I don’t think spironolactone would make you purge because it’s not an exfoliant and it’s not speeding up your skin cell turn over date. It was probably the tretinoin that caused the purging.
I just started spironolactone like two weeks ago and omg I’m purging bad 🥲 I’m getting a lot of cystic acne on my jawline and cheek and it’s really making me feel self conscious. I’m hoping that it only lasts a month 🙏🏽. But yeah I’ve never struggled with dryness but around my mouth and nose and even a little on my eyelids is getting dry and flaky. Seeing your skin and how clear it looks gives me hope ❤️
@@alissay98 hey! Sooo I’m seeing some improvement. The texture is better but I’m still dealing with cystic acne. I take pics every night and I do see improvement! But it might take longer for my skin to be completely clear. Some people say that their skin cleared in a month others have said 3 months and I’ve even saw that some had to wait 6months and more for clear skin. My first bottle is for 90 days so by the end of February I hope I have clear skin!!
@@gabs1082 okay thanks! It's gonna be my first week on 50mg tomorrow and I think my skin has gotten worst since last week tbh. But I'm staying hopeful, my derm wants to put me on Accutane too next month so we shall see how that goes! I appreciate your response :)

Thank you so much for making this video I’m sure it will help a lot of people. I was on 200 mg of Spiro for years. It was amazing for my skin. It cleared up all my cystic acne and my skin for the fist time felt and looked glowing and beautiful. Absolute game changer. The only side effect for me was frequent peeing but that only lasted a few weeks. My body then got used to it. After 10 years I was weaned off it. My skin is fine now but not as lovely as it was when I was on Spiro. I get the odd spot and sometimes a cystic one but nothing like before. I would absolutely go on Spiro again if my acne returned to any intolerable level.

are you still taking spironolactone? or did you stop taking it? In case you stopped, could I know if you have had acne breakouts again? I've heard that most girls who take spironolactone get acne again when they stop taking the pills. That is why I am afraid to start treatment, because it doesn't make sense to take so many pills and then have acne again :(
Hi! I have not been taking Spiro for months and have not broken out anymore. But you have to make sure you're on it for at least a year (this what my dermatologist told me) I am going to be making a update about this soon. :)

Purging right now… it hurts so bad around my side burns… been on (2)25 mg spironolactone daily… plus tretinoin and dapsone …. Getting bumped up to 50 mg twice a day for my second month in….. hopefully it wotks

It’s for sure not ‘pushing out’ everything in your skin. It’s your hormones responding to the medication which then as a byproduct causes a breakout.

Purging is one of the side effects. Dermatologist advised me this as well.

No problem! I experienced purging, peeing often and dryness.

You need to definitely give your skin more time.
