    Leomund's Tiny Hut, also known as Spellcasting ambush bunker.
    Some set up required.

    • @draxthemsklonst
      @draxthemsklonst 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you know the answer to this:
      If a caster casts Tenser's Disc, and a teammate/party member stands on the Disc, then casts Tiny Hut...can the hut move via "the floor" (the disc) moving?
      Do they both just forcibly separate upon casting tiny hut, while on top of a Tenser's disc? Can the Tiny Hut be moved with any spell or magic item, at all? If someone casts it on top of a creature big enough to carry it, as if the creature was terrain?
      Just for the record, I don't think my concept works, but if it technically does...hoooly crap! Also, I'm sure someone already brought this up before...most likely.

    • @kylethomas9130

      @@draxthemsklonst I remember a comment thread on a video about Tenser's Floating Disc.
      While a ritual caster could sit on the disk and cast a spell, Leomund's Tiny Hut is stationary regardless of where it was cast.
      Two things left unanswered,
      1) Is Leomund's spell still a dome if cast airborne.
      2) If a caster of Tiny Hut sits on a Floating Disc, and is pulled by the caster of Tenser's spell into the barrier. Does Tenser's spell end because it came in contact with an impassible barrier, or does Leomund's spell end because its caster left the dome?

    • @draxthemsklonst
      @draxthemsklonst 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kylethomas9130
      Someone mentioned burrowing under the Hut to get inside and the official answer was the Hut has a floor. It's probably always a hemishere/dome with a flat floor, even in the air. I don't make the rules, though, so also: I don't know for sure.
      I do know the Hut ends if the caster leaves the dome and Tenser's Disc can go max 100 feet from the caster (when it's stuck or terrain isn't navigable) before it ends.
      Your scenario would be the caster that left the Tiny Hut would end that before the disc ever had any issues.
      I don't know this for sure, but I think one can cast the disc, stand beside it, and then cast Tiny Hut, and the Disc will be in the Hut with whoever (size medium and smaller)/whatever else is there. Doesn't really do much, besides keep your junk (that's on the disc) in the Hut while you do whatcha got to do.
      Still, a Hut on a Disc could have some possibilities I didn't consider. Even if it can't be moved, it's a floating safe area. That's got to be good for something...besides the obvious rest area/rally point, right?

    • @kylethomas9130
      @kylethomas9130 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@draxthemsklonst it would be funny for someone to do a character build aimed at casting such spells in these inordinate situations, just to see how their DM reacts.
      I still think it depends on Hut castor's position on the disc, since if the disc came in contact with Leomund's spell, it would be blocked from exiting the dome.

      @@kylethomas9130 I would have difficulty with someone using the Feat to cast Commune. Clerics, warlocks, and paladins all have deities/patrons that they can commune with, but a barbarian or assassin who grabbed Commune with the ritual caster feat, who exactly are they communing with, and why would they respond? I have the same problem with characters using Magic Initiate to get Eldritch Blast. Eldritch blast is supposed to be an eruption of the raw magic power of the warlocks patron, so how does a champion using this as an infinite ammo heavy crossbow fit in with that?

    Ceremony is another one that can get a LOT of use, even more so in a more random composition Adventurer's League game, but even out of it. It basically makes your character clergy of some kind and being able to offer to do weddings and other things can often open a heck of a lot of doors with some minor role play possibilities. Sure, it's limited in how the effects can target characters, but for groups that get mixed in and out, those buffs can be extremely powerful for 1 or 2 shots.
    And it lets you make Holy Water...for less than it's buy price, but the spell saved my party from the flame skull in Lost Mines...

    Also technically with comprehend language if you are hearing the language you only understand the literal meaning of the language (you understand everything if its written and you are touching it). So if spoken you don't understand idioms for instance. This is one of the things (besides speaking) that sets it apart from tongues (which does let you understand idioms).
    It's kind of a way for DM's to sneak something by you. But it's been there in earlier editions as well. I'm sure like 99% of DM's ignore it though.

    • @kylethomas9130

    My party was trying to get into a historical throne room so we could get an artifact off of the throne. The throne had a box around it and guards in front of it.
    The plan was: The warlock made the bard and rogue invisible, who proceeded to steal the janitor keys. They snuck into the throne room, which was at that time closed, by the fighter opening the door and asking a question of the guards. The cleric, me, used their familiar to place Silence in the other room on the throne box. They artifact wasn't very keen about being taken, and ended up glowing with daylight and blasted the bard with radiant damage, but the rogue passed the saving throw. The guards saw the light so they turned around, saw the throne tipped over, and rushed in. Surprisingly we all survived and escaped, but if it weren't for Silence our crack plan wouldn't have worked at all.

    So one thing that I love about the silence spell that most people don't use is the fact that it makes you immune to thunder damage while in the radius. This is especially fun when your playing a rogue and your in PVP with a storm cleric who tries to hit you with a booming blade cantrip then you tell him he does 0 damage and everyone looks at you funny till you point out that the silence spell makes everyone in it immune to thunder damage

    a correction.
    Bards can cast ritual spells as rituals :)
    so in conjunction with the detect magic, the only full casters that can't cast ritual spells as ritual is Sorcerer and Warlock, though warlock can get it with pact of the tome.
    it actually follows the theme if half casters like rangers can't cast it as a ritual, and also why Sorcerers cant cast rituals, as it fits the theme of innate magic they do not learn magic like others.
    BUT, the warlock i think all of them should be able to cast ritual spells as rituals, as most think of warlock making big rituals to summon demons, cast curses and others.
    and jep bard, cleric and druid need to prepare the ritual to cast it but, they can chance what spells they have at each long rest, so they can always get it, they just need to foresee what spells they need.

    “DMG PG; 139; Cursed items; Most methods of identifying items, including the Identify spell, fail to reveal such a curse, although the lore might hint at it. A curse should be a surprise to the items user when the curse’s effects are revealed.“. So no Identify spell DOES NOT in fact reveal cursed items curses.
    Fire arrows from inside the dome sweet! I was thinking allies step in and out but that’s even better! Your right it says object, Cool! Also spellcasters can step in and out except for the caster holding up the dome. But the dome caster is not concentrating so they can say cast teleportation circle from within! Ah Leomunds tiny hut so amazing!
    Having a general caster feature for detect magic is a good idea. Also hunters mark and other ranger spells should just be abilities like channel divinity. Etc.
    Fun video thanks!

    • @neoman4426
      @neoman4426 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One interesting thing, since objects inside when cast can move through it freely you firing them *out* gives them something they can fire back *in*. Would be very inefficient to gather them, and would be at Disadvantage unless they have some way of seeing through it, but an interesting interaction

    • @valasafantastic1055
      @valasafantastic1055 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neoman4426 That would work if the arrows are not broken. We do 50% break chance for each arrow unless it would logically be destroyed (such as by firing into a fire elemental or acidic ooze). I'd roll for each arrow and mark the location. That also requires the foe to be trained in Arcana or very familiar with the hut or otherwise succeed an INT check to think of the arrows fired out being able to be fired back in. I'd at the least consume movement or bonus action to gather arrows near an enemy but I would make it possible for sure! And yes disadvantage for such attacks unless the foe has truesight or blindsight and is within range to perceive inside the dome.

    You seem to forget the inclusion for tenser's floating disk, if compined with phantom steed you can ride a the steed and move at full speed but also have the caster act as a tether effectively making a chariot that can hold up to 500 pounds and 2 medium creatures inside per disk. Rituals spells with no concentration can be over lapped quite easily.

    Ritual cast while riding in the wagon for another steed. Fasten that one to another wagon. Rinse and repeat until satisfied.

    Phantom steed takes 1 minute to gradually end after it takes damage. It’s still probably good for the rest of the fight.

    Fun fact for phantom steeds: you don't need to stop and start each hour. Just ritual cast while riding and swap out whichever horse is close to poofing with the new one. And just keep doing it. Surprise you can ride and have someone else steer while you ritual cast the spell! So you can just keep refreshing the mounts while you ride along. Two ritual casters for it results in even better efficiency but yeah you don't need to stop and reset.

    30:20 in my opinion I think detect magic should be made a cantrip instead of a lv1 spell so it doesn't take up a limited level spell slot but still uses a cantrip slot.
    Edit: I think if it was made a cantrip you should only get the first half of the spell that allows you to detect and see the aura of Magic but not the second half that tells you what kind it is as to not make it to overpowered or game-breaking.

    The interesting thing in the wording of Detect Magic is that it can see magical auras, but not towards things you can see... but I feel as if Detect Magic should be able to see the aura of the spell... since it is a magical effect, they should be able to locate the illusory magic in that area and realize that it is illusion magic. They may not be able to make out the outline of the spell, but if something like Faerie Fire, which is also a 1st level spell can reveal invisible creatures, I'd think that Detect Magic could alert a spellcaster to an invisible item or creature as well... at least negating the disadvantage to attacking the creature.
    But maybe that's why they mention the rule... either way, the spell is awesome =3

  • @AllenLinnenJr

    Detect Magic should be an option for diviner's 3rd eye subclass feature.
    And another thing comes to mind. Since the actual target of the spell is self and not the thing being read, one could argue something similar to what you said about Comprehend Language and a familiar with the Mage Hand spell. Since the Mage hand isn't being used to apply a touch spell one could argue that touching the object with your third magic hand would be legit. I know I would allow it if I didn't straight up repeal the need to touch the thing being read all together.

  • @HankJ666
    @HankJ666 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    4:20 I think it could be cast on an object because if we look for example at darkness it reads:
    _If the _*_point_*_ you choose _*_is on an object_*_ you are holding_
    That said, Darkness also explicitly explains what happens in that case
    _the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object, such as a bowl or a helm, blocks the darkness._
    So I'd say this would be for the DM to decide, considering it doesn't have a chunk of text like Darkness explaining if you can or not transform an object into the bane of enemy casters, I'd probably say that no, Silence cannot be cast on a rock and you cannot be throwing around said rock

    Addendum. Magic Initiate gives you one 1st level spell and two cantrips from one class. But it does not give you the ritual casting ability, so you can not cast your 1st level spell ritually without the Ritual Caster feat. Since that feat gives you two 1st level spells of your choice from one class AND the ability to add more spells from that same class with the ritual tag to your Ritual Book (see feat for details), Ritual Caster is the feat you want if you want to cast ritual spells.

    So one of my favorite spells to use as a ritual is the forbiddance spell especially in a creatures lair as that means as long as they are located in their lair they will take 5d10 radiant or necrotic damage with a duration of one day so if you set this up in their lair in secret then go to fight them every round of combat it takes 5d10 damage and it doesn't require concentration to keep up so put this down when your expecting something to do something then it doesn't work

  • @InuyashaHanyu
    @InuyashaHanyu ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing which makes me hesitate to add Tiny Hut to my non wizard characters spell lists is its rare to matter.
    1 minute casting time means you can't use it ever spontaneously in combat. Certainly not as ritual.
    And even if you use it for resting, chances are the party prefers the resting spot to be hidden and not a magical dome everyone finds easy to spot.
    Sure, it could block off a narrow path to enemies you foresaw coming through in a while. Or it may give you some safety when resting and should enemies approach it gives you time to prepare (them too though). That has use. But it is so niche a use that I wonder, wouldn't I rather use that known spell for something else?
    Of course, in the ritual book you just write in what you can get, just like as a wizard. If you get to add a new spell you take it just cause you can.
    just my thoughts on that

    An unseen servant can carry a tower shield (edit: or buckler) into battle for your wizard to hide behind.

    • @steveaustin2686
      @steveaustin2686 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only problem is that a tower shield in 3.5e was 45lb, so it would probably be the same in 5e, meaning that it would be 15lb too heavy for the unseen servant to carry. The servant has a Str 2 and evidently a 15ft movement speed. So 30lb at 15ft per round would be the max weight carried and speed of advance. Now if your tower shield had wheels, you can drag/push 30 times your strength score, so I would rule that the servant could push the tower shield on wheels, 15ft per round, and hold it up when the wizard wants him to as he is not carrying the shield when holding it up. With the servant being behind the shield, it would have total cover when holding up the shield, but would be exposed when pushing it. The servant only has 1hp, so an area affect spell that reaches behind the shield, would likely take out the servant.
      If you use the encumbrance rules, your servant starts slowing down at 10lbs carried. The rule is you lose 10ft of speed when encumbered and 20ft when heavily encumbered. But that really doesn't work at movement speeds of 20ft or less. Since the default is 30ft of movement, I rule that you lose 1/3 and 2/3 your movement for being encumbered and heavily encumbered, with a 5ft minimum for simplicity.

    I don't get your use of silence. It is extremely situational where you would be able to sit outside a door for 10 minutes, chanting and waving your arms just to make breaking down the door quietly. Rules out any place with guards who can see outside, cities, patrols, etc. And of course, if anyone is within 20' of the inside of the door... they'll suddenly find everything has gone silent and quickly just move away in order to sound the alarm. 90% of the time you are better just casting it as action since as a ritual you are any advantage to busting down the door silently is likely negated by the fact you are now outside the door for 10 minutes chanting away.
