    I attended a funeral in Russia in 1998. It was -20 degrees. I remember the grave digger had dug the grave with just a shovel in the stone hard ground and he wasn't wearing gloves. His hands were completely calloused and purplish. Someone handed him a bunch of roses to put on the coffin and he grasped the thorny stems of a dozen roses in his bare hands and ripped the stems in half. There is training tough and then there is just naturally born and bred tough.

      The story goes. I had to take shower in Siberia once. The water was so cold I thought my nuts were gonna freeze to my leg. I noticed this dude looking at me like I'm a badass for not testing it and just jumping in and not flinching. He didn't know that I was frozen solid.

    BADASS story. I am going to take cold showers now and try to maintain relaxed posture/expression and a positive, happy state of mind.
    This is an awesome little thing to incorporate into a badass's life. Helps you stay non reactive to the environment. Derive your emotional state from the inside only.

    Mental toughness is everything when combined with skill, strength, and cardio.
    Thank you for this uplifting story. We often forget that many people around the world do not even have clean water or food to consume, let alone to bathe in

    • @KOLATCOM
      @KOLATCOM  10 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      alleycatufc people in the U.S. are naturally weak minded not because they are not tough but we have so many things available to us like hot water, food everyday at the store, etc. Put into the same situation most rise to the occasion but this is natural to most people around the world, living without hot water.

      I did Greco-roman in Greece where I come from for almost 5 years (from 12 to almost 17) and was asked to stop from my parents when a fellow athlete died during a fight. I pursued other martial arts and now at my 45 started grappling as wrestling is always in my heart. At that time our palestra looked like what Cary describes. Funny thing is that I visited two years ago and was happy to see that my instructor at the time is still there strong like an ox despite his almost 70 years old and the place had not changed a bit, same smell (hot water at the showers though now). Cary I discovered your videos two weeks ago that I was asked to train here in India and wanted to show some freestyle and although I remember you from the olympics, the way that you teach is amazing. Ps. Toughness is not measured by taking a cold shower, btw.. 🤦
