I am a massive LEGO city guy I have own large city layout(and a layout on a window seat) the city is about 75% Mocs, 25% Sets and modified sets. Anyway back to this set, I’ve been wanting to try a technic set and as a huge car fan and fan of Fast And Furious, i was glad to receive this set. I’m about to build it and I thought you provided great opinions on the set, I think it’s a great entry level technic set. I have subscribed to your channel and plan to watch some of your videos while I build this. Thank you, and happy holidays!
That is what I want!!!! I want a huge challenge for me!!!! Not something a baby could do. But it does look amazing!!!! I love older cars and stuff like that car but in my opinion they could of done a way way WAY better job on the gears. It's the gears that make the set what it is. Not good gears, not good set. Good gears and good looks( witch it did a good job on that part.) Will mean a good set. Like your vid bro feel up the good work no matter what someone says.

The “chain” you can remove without consequence is the supercharger belt and the gear is the supercharger pulley. It has no functionality because there’s no combustion or even cylinder heads. I think it’s a nice detail they decided to add, especially since it runs with the engine much like a supercharger would.
Ah yes, you're an elitist. Back in my day if you got steering and a single piston engine you had a cool Technic set. If they gave you some rear suspension on top of that you were the coolest kid in school.

Technic as in technical as in complex/challenging to build,if a technic set is less than £50,it obviously makes sense that the build won't be too challenging or complex but for £90+,they need to have things like gears and complex functions to justify the price
@@Unbrickme Since all Lego sets come with instructions that tell you exactly which piece to put where (even highlighting, pointing, etc.) I would argue that no set meets the criteria of "challenging building" anymore. I would instead replace that part of the motto with "engineering marvel" to highlight the absurd amount of engineering that had to take place to get all of those pins and connectors, gear trains, and sometimes very specialized pieces to join together in all of their complicated angles of glory. The larger sets like the rough terrain crane, bucket wheel excavator, leibherr excavator, sian, porsche, bugatti, are all examples of this. Let's finally call a spade a spade. The vast majority of people who buy these sets are adults who in their childhood years yearned for more complicated technical details, but the vision, resources, and technical expertise of Lego employees was still in its infancy. Lego has finally realized a large part of their customer base is these exact children who have now grown up, and when they see a spectacular piece of engineering, they just have to have it and put it together to see how it works. When I can't afford to buy one right away, the first thing I do is download the instructions to see what's inside and what makes it tick, or watch a build video of someone else (which is similar). Again, there is nothing challenging about building one of these (if you are a grown up Lego maniac like me). The challenge was designing it in the first place. The reward for me building is is connecting to that designer(s) in a way that I understand their thought process and appreciating and admiring the unparalleled skill they must have in bringing their creation to life. So in that sense, it should at a very minimum be changed to "rewarding building." That's what drives me to open the box of a new set and start building. And I'm over 40 years old now.

You’ve been very unfair on this, I’ve just built this last night and I was impressed, gearboxes are and have kinda been just for their flagship sets, Bugatti, Siån GT3 when the model already has functional HOG steering,(people complained that the Bugatti hadn’t got this), working diff, working engine, front independent suspension etc, I feel this model has more functionality than you’d expect for a non-flagship middle of the road technic set
Dude, how are you gonna say the 42125 is a good set and then bash this one? It's $70 cheaper, has better functionality, and it looks better. Most of your complaints in this video are completely baseless anyway, like the thing with the non-functional steering wheel. I would much rather have a HOG steering gear than a useless one in the cabin. Terrible side to take, homie.
From an outsider/retired LEGO builder like me, i just admire the little details and it looks great once you've built it. That's at least my perspective on this.

I don’t understand what you mean about the supercharger belt. Its a lego set. Not everything has to be about functionality. It’s a nice decoration they put to simulate a supercharger belt. No big intensions really.
I don't think it will split the community down the middle, because most people just don't give a damn about it... You are the one manufacturing the controversy here by presenting it as if it's should be something controversial.
I think what this set does well is have all the essential basic functions we expect from a Technic car set compacted into a great small chassis --- being able to fit this into a lower profile than they have ever done before is a Lego engineering feat worth commending. It's impressive that they also included the ability to stop building halfway through, where nothing but the details remain, so anyone could build their own "look" onto the basic chassis - I like that they made it so customisable in that way. My only real drawbacks about this model is that the wheels are too far under the car (no car is like that - it's very unrealistic), and they didn't even put basic things like mirrors on the sides. It also looks like it is missing pieces from both the side doors.
Lego RARELY releases technic cars with gearboxes. Your comparisons are terrible. You compare a $100 set with power functions that has 1/3rd parts, different parts. The Corvette has 500+ Parts, this has 1000+. Its on the same parts to price ratio. Now imagine the price of a Lego Car with 1000 parts and power functions..... It would be well over $200. I get your opinions but the basis for some are not very well thought out.

You need to keep in mind the cost of this set which is 70 bucks. The sets with gearboxes are at least double price. Come on dude. Compromises have to be made for a price like that.
It’s an intro set hense the cheapest technic car with a working engine and differential which I think is great for anybody who doesn’t wanna spend $500 but see if they enjoy the technic sets
The chain isn’t connected to an axle? Well duh, axles aren’t driven by a chain, the chain is for the super charger, which in real life if you remove the chain it would still run, not great but it will.
I just finished this and I have mixed feelings. I wanted this immediately when I saw it. The building process had me questioning my purchase. However, I’m happy with it. It’s got good looks, but it’s lacking in some areas. I agree the Corvette is horrible and I never bought it.
I think it looks like a great car but I think it would have been better as a creator expert, it could’ve been similar to the 10265 Ford Mustang because their both muscle cars.

I bought one of these it’s coming in the mail right now I bought a bunch of custom engine peace’s for it to and am gonna redo the engine it’s very basic designed like it’s a you get the just feature to it, my chain ima swap over to the same style chain but the extra fat ones like you might see on a tank to give it a bulkier appearance like a real one as well as try to build a turbo charger cause they didn’t even seem to give it an appearance of having one

I’m not saying we needed anything like the Lamborghini, I’m just saying we needed some sort of better functionality. Plus, there are plenty of better sets for a similar price, just look at the remote controlled stunt car or look at the technic drag racer 42050. That looked had a rare giant wheel and it could Be motorized with the 30$ power functions accessory box. Both the sets I’ve mentioned offered much better functionality then the doms Dodge Charger
Unbrickme I have the dragster and the rc stunt car, there nothing special, the dragster is basically the same as the charger as they both have a flip up wheelie bar and the rc stunt thing is just a motor to a pair of tracks, nothing technical about that at all
Think about it, the drag racer has capabilities to be motorized! It’s playable and enjoyable, like every technic set should be. If it’s not playable, it should have a gearbox. You’re getting far more play value from both the sets I’ve mentioned for about the same price as the doms Dodge Charger. Doms Dodge Charger Charger is pathetic really, pretty much anyone familiar with technic would be able to make a moc like that. Technic isn’t system. A lot of system sets are barely playable and mostly display. Technic sets shouldn’t be mostly display unless they have some cool mechanism like the technic Lamborghini. All technic sets should have authenticity, functionality, and challenging building. The doms Dodge Charger is authentic, but it lacks challenging building and functionality. Just take a look at the new Ducati panigale v4 R bike. It’s authentic, it’s got functionality (2 speed gearbox and suspension and a v4 engine) as well as challenging building (introduction of cool new building techniques a very compact gearbox). Think about it, that set is much cheaper than the doms Dodge Charger, yet it is so much better. Technic sets have much higher standards than system sets, and even a cheap technic set is able to meet those standards, like the Ducati bike I mentioned

Sam 05 eh that white excavator is something I don’t like. It’s phone controlled, and 1 motor per function. No gearbox or anything. Also too pricey, for 450 bucks I feel like it should include something more for the advanced builder. For example, my favorite set of all time is the 8043. Very compact gearbox, which is also fully motorized and remotely controlled. The new Volvo 6x6 since it has the motorized speed transmission gearbox seems to be phenomenal!

The set is OK. Why I hate it. Well it's not a technic set it's a racers or a creator experts set. Beeing here after all reviews for the 2021 Januar sets are out im sad. Seeing where Lego Technic is heading right now its just gonna be Lego Racers. The problem is they replace Technic without giving us anything in else. Nearly no more B-Modells, cars cars cars. And the biggest problem, the Lego fan base. I'm a fan too but I see that quality is decreasing. I also know lego is having top numbers and earnings every year. So of there point of view they do everything right. But seeing lines like Technic or StarWars fu*king up and still sell like hot cake saddens me. Edit. But reading more of the comments here, like I wrote fanbase is messed up. Nobody is willing to try and emphasize, seeing the point of other people anymore. And for all younglings out there, of course I would have liked this set as a teen. But as an parent I know what I got back in the day for 100 bucks. And as a starter set for Technic it's better to get the 50 bucks sets like the Corvette in 2020 or the senner in 2021 with nearly the same functionality as the charger but half the price.

I also like how the build of this starts, around that really new giant frame piece. In terms of building experience, it felt truly new and unique to me... I'd be more disappointed if it felt like I was building something that I'd built before. I think Technic sets are better with HOG steering rather than having to stick my fingers into a cramped up cabin to try and steer something.
It's like I'm watching someone talk smack about something important like a new phone or a new car or even a new video game. It's just Legos and I had fun building the car a few days ago and it looks awesome in my opinion. Sure that bottom part that opens up seems pointless and the steering wheel could have been made functional but other than that it's a great Lego set.

A “technic” set is more about the types of bricks used. Not “break your brain” build. Smaller sets sure don’t, but it’s the bricks used.

maybe, but considering that in 2017 and in 2019 we got $100 sets with power functions, this is a disappointment
This was my first technic since like 2010ish so it was cool to get this set and build it. I personally enjoyed the build and the display of it.

Power functions and gearboxes and stuff like that are ABOVE AVERAGE things for a technic set. This set has average features and above average looks so there is no reason to dislike this set. I bought one of these it’s coming in the mail right now I bought a bunch of custom engine peace’s for it to and am gonna redo the engine it’s very basic designed like it’s a you get the just feature to it, my chain ima swap over to the same style chain but the extra fat ones like you might see on a tank to give it a bulkier appearance like a real one as well as try to build a turbo charger cause they didn’t even seem to give it an appearance of having one
bruh of course the chain isn't functional the fuck, the real life equivalent to that is a belt that runs a supercharger, that's the scoop on top of the engine. you can't make a supercharger in lego lmao wtf

Sort of disagree, this is a cheap set so it’s going to be shit, you need to compare it to sets like the 42077 rally car, you can’t forget that your not gonna get a complicated gearbox like on the £350 lambo, In fact you say technic is getting less complicated but 10 years ago lego wouldn’t of even thought of putting a gearbox in a car, think twice before you say mate.

Unbrickme I have the dragster and the rc stunt car, there nothing special, the dragster is basically the same as the charger as they both have a flip up wheelie bar and the rc stunt thing is just a motor to a pair of tracks, nothing technical about that at all
Think about it, the drag racer has capabilities to be motorized! It’s playable and enjoyable, like every technic set should be. If it’s not playable, it should have a gearbox. You’re getting far more play value from both the sets I’ve mentioned for about the same price as the doms Dodge Charger. Doms Dodge Charger Charger is pathetic really, pretty much anyone familiar with technic would be able to make a moc like that. Technic isn’t system. A lot of system sets are barely playable and mostly display. Technic sets shouldn’t be mostly display unless they have some cool mechanism like the technic Lamborghini. All technic sets should have authenticity, functionality, and challenging building. The doms Dodge Charger is authentic, but it lacks challenging building and functionality. Just take a look at the new Ducati panigale v4 R bike. It’s authentic, it’s got functionality (2 speed gearbox and suspension and a v4 engine) as well as challenging building (introduction of cool new building techniques a very compact gearbox). Think about it, that set is much cheaper than the doms Dodge Charger, yet it is so much better. Technic sets have much higher standards than system sets, and even a cheap technic set is able to meet those standards, like the Ducati bike I mentioned

Sam 05 eh that white excavator is something I don’t like. It’s phone controlled, and 1 motor per function. No gearbox or anything. Also too pricey, for 450 bucks I feel like it should include something more for the advanced builder. For example, my favorite set of all time is the 8043. Very compact gearbox, which is also fully motorized and remotely controlled. The new Volvo 6x6 since it has the motorized speed transmission gearbox seems to be phenomenal!

Why I hate it. Well it's not a technic set it's a racers or a creator experts set.
Beeing here after all reviews for the 2021 Januar sets are out im sad.
Seeing where Lego Technic is heading right now its just gonna be Lego Racers.
The problem is they replace Technic without giving us anything in else.
Nearly no more B-Modells, cars cars cars.
And the biggest problem, the Lego fan base. I'm a fan too but I see that quality is decreasing. I also know lego is having top numbers and earnings every year. So of there point of view they do everything right.
But seeing lines like Technic or StarWars fu*king up and still sell like hot cake saddens me.
Edit. But reading more of the comments here, like I wrote fanbase is messed up. Nobody is willing to try and emphasize, seeing the point of other people anymore. And for all younglings out there, of course I would have liked this set as a teen. But as an parent I know what I got back in the day for 100 bucks. And as a starter set for Technic it's better to get the 50 bucks sets like the Corvette in 2020 or the senner in 2021 with nearly the same functionality as the charger but half the price.

I also like how the build of this starts, around that really new giant frame piece. In terms of building experience, it felt truly new and unique to me... I'd be more disappointed if it felt like I was building something that I'd built before. I think Technic sets are better with HOG steering rather than having to stick my fingers into a cramped up cabin to try and steer something.

It's like I'm watching someone talk smack about something important like a new phone or a new car or even a new video game. It's just Legos and I had fun building the car a few days ago and it looks awesome in my opinion. Sure that bottom part that opens up seems pointless and the steering wheel could have been made functional but other than that it's a great Lego set.
