      Your writer was incorrect in stating that there where 131 and 129 LGBTQI murderess in 1975 &1974
      According to data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and additional studies on crime in San Francisco, there were 129 murders in San Francisco in 1973 and 141 murders in 1974 in total. Very few of those involved very few LGBTQI people
      1.1973: San Francisco saw a high number of homicides, influenced by violent crime waves like the Zebra killings, which began in late 1973 and contributed to a surge in murder rates.
      1974: Homicides peaked, partly due to the ongoing Zebra killings, which left 15 people dead within seven months from late 1973 to early 1974. Other violent crimes also added to the murder count during this year.
      1975: The number of homicides slightly decreased after the conclusion of the Zebra case, but violent crime remained a concern for the city
      The reason I included 1973 is that's when the zebra murders started. Something you should do a pod cast on

      Heya @TheCasualCriminalist, heads up - a few times in this you referred to heterosexual people as 'normal people' to contrast being homosexual when speaking of historical abuses. I love your stuff generally but that is def not the wording you want to be using for what you were trying to express I suspect more along the lines of the average murder rate or the general populations murder rate or similar. The choice of the word "normal" feeds into similar mindsets of the time that being homosexual is abnormal, poor moral character, an aberration etc. and such language was often used to justify the abuse, oppression, limiting of rights and vilification of gay and lesbian folks. It is still used in many places today and now that gay and lesbians are generally more accepted than in the 70's the current trend is to slap all those old things onto the trans population who are the new scary agenda going to upset family values/society/sexually deviant/out to corrupt the youth and turn them/are probably kiddy fiddlers and will want to legalize zoophilia next. :/ There will definitely be people in your audience who are lesbian, gay or queer who will be affected by the wording, particularly if they are of the generations who would have lived through this time. I hope you are able to address this as I don't get the impression that wording is likely in line with your intention and how you actually want to express yourself.

    The way mandated reporting works for mental health professionals is that they must report if the person says they will do harm (e.g., kill) again. If they just confess to having done it in the past with no indication of continuing, it’s a violation of the doctor/patient privilege. I understand why it’s this way, but I don’t like it. A murder victim’s family needs closure.

    • @lillylunapotter8079
      @lillylunapotter8079 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s because if they are not going to do it again then they need to be able to get help but if they are a danger they need to be stoped.im not an expert by any means but from I understand it’s more for keeping it from repeating when people need help to not risk it again like people who had a psychiatrist episode or were escaping DV so that they can get help and repeat patterns they led there. But the way around it is if someone is planing or showing signs of repeating to save future potential victims.

    • @lauren9667
      @lauren9667 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@lillylunapotter8079 I understand this, but a serial killer who commits brutal crimes like this one shouldn’t be able to just walk in to a psychiatrist and confess to a slew of murders but pinkie swears he won’t do it again. He’s probably a psychopath and psychopaths are not known to be successfully rehabilitated. It’s different from the guy who killed his wife’s affair partner and now feels sick about it. He’s more likely not to reoffend and therapy would help him (and society). The problem is you can’t allow the decision to be made by an individual or the law won’t work. So we have to trust the psychopath’s pinkie swear, leaving society at risk. It’s a conundrum.

    • @baydiac
      @baydiac หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@lauren9667Exactly. The very premise is flawed, because it assumes someone who confesses to serial killings at their therapist's is trying to get help/stop killing.
      If they actually wanted to stop killing people they would have turned themselves in to the police.
      It's the same reason we don't feel pity for the weepy-voiced killer no matter how much he whines, it's nothing but a show to get the insanity plea unless he turns himself in the first time he "uncontrollably" kills somebody.

    The nurse and doctors are mandatory reporters. So yes they were right to contact police

    • @Britt20654
      @Britt20654 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      That isn’t how that works. They have an obligation to report future crimes but if you are talking about past crimes, unless it is child abuse or something like that, then there is no exceptions to confidentiality and it’s the tort of invasion of privacy and inadmissible in court. It’s the same rule for lawyers with the exception of the child abuse caveat. If a client tells me he is going to murder someone I have to turn him in but if he says I have murdered someone there is nothing that can be said. Also the mandatory reporter laws are state laws and are different in every state. Many don’t even apply to conduct towards adult. For example some states require reporting of suicide or suicide attempts others, such as North Carolina, do not. See McArdle v. Mission Hospital, 804 SE 2d 214 (NC Ct Apps; 2017).

      As a San Franciscan: Calling it _SF_ is fine. Calling it _San Fran_ is despised. _Frisco_ is cultural and generational. SF Chronicle columnist Herb Caen hated the term so much he had a column called “DON’T CALL IT FRISCO” and his popularity made it taboo. I’d say that you’re the one who’s focusing on it… all I was thinking about was group sizes. 37:50 "Cruising" isn't a bad movie for its time. It's worth watching and examining critically today.
