Daigo's been famous since way before SFIII. He was one the top SF2T and SF Alpha 3 players and he holds the record for the most number of wins in Vampire Hunter (286 consecutive wins undefeated). Even today Capcom's Seth Killian regards him as "probably the greatest player in the history of the game". Arcadia magazine did a DVD special on him in January.
Wow, I'm surprised Daigo lost, he was zoning pretty well. But damn, Savion Glover didn't do as much tapping in his tap dancing routine as I heard in these rounds lol
I don't know what type they are using exactly, but the ones I have are two PS2 to PS3 converter adapter by SUMOTO. One of my friends clocked this as being .2 seconds faster than a keyboard and from my own experience, if there is any lag. I don't notice it. Works great with HRAPS and even T5 sticks.
@ShadowlessMar True, they are designed to use certain moves, but if you are using Ryu against Zangief, you will be countered almost everytime with his spinning fists which have the fireball pass through him and also open you up for free damage.
Zoning is keeping your opponent at certain distances, Fire balls stop your advance most of the time, let Ryu back away and engage at will. FADC is Focus attack (M.K + M.P) dash cancel
There are tons of fighting games like that out there. Most "fighting" games could be described that way. What makes games like street fighter so great is that Streetfighter is near impossible to master. The fact that it is so challenging makes it really rewarding when you pull off tough combos. It is a very deep game that can be replayed for decades, unlike most fighting games that lose their appeal after a day.
Zangief isn't slow in Sf4. His Green hand (especially EX version) lets him cover a lot of ground fast. He can get in on people pretty quickly. Plus, he can just walk up to a lot of people and corner them with his Lariat.
oh, i have never been to an arcade so that might be a reason why i might be comfortable with it. i do admit though, heavy shoryuken to focus attack, then cancel, and then metsu hadouken is really hard to do.
no TICKING in to throws not tricked. ticking means he hits u with light punch then he throws u. he can crossup into it as well. its extremely hard to avoid so best to play the distance game.
Exactly, projectiles isn't the best idea and when you're down, chances are most Giefs tend to do a cross up and do some wakeup game on you. I friggin hate when that happens, so hard to get out.
Daigo's not really in a slump, he just flat out hasn't been playing in the arcades, hence his drop to #3 in BP. He did play Mago in a casuals match last week, and won 21-9.
no FiOS, just regular verizon DSL. i guess it's mainly a person to person thing. ive played 1-2 bar connections without problems, and yet ive lagged on 3-4 bar connections. also, im going to assume at least most of the french and spanish connections i encounter are mexican and french canadian. but that doesn't take away the fact that ive had good games with german, korean, and japanese players.
No i'm not wrong. You're just being ignorant. Just because Ryu is used alot doesn't mean he is the easiest. Zangief for example is really easy to use, you do a lariat and it negates most jumping attacks, wakeup attacks, and even fireballs.
This video gives me such inspiration to stay with gief seein a player out footsey daigo. The key to him winning was to get in by baiting the beast to press low forward then dancing in and out of it's range so he can Psycic stuff it with c.lp > ex glv like in 0:58 , whif punish with c. lk > ex glv 2:32. Once he was in it was all about the shinanagians sequences that rape about 3/4 of your life 2:36 - 2:50. Top 8 at evo and vids like this gief is top teir.
Its pretty clear that Capcom wanted to make Ryu one of the best chars in this game. Countless ways into connecting his ultra. One of the best focus atks in the game, Numerous BnB combos that connect straight into the ultra, FAST overhead, Insane range and priority on J.RH fly kick, ZERO dmg reduction on ultra when done in a combo, one of the fastest projectiles in the game, if thats not enough, almost all trades results in Ryus favor since he can still score additional dmg with ultra or EX moves
I agree, zangief is a handful for any opponent no matter how bad/good they are, once zangief gets a knock-down it becomes a dangerous guessing game. That's why i like him, but yeh when the game first came out i think alot of people felt like there was no stopping him.
The gallery at the end were all like "Awwww!! God!! [that's what they call Daigo] How could you lose!?" and Daigo was like "Uhhhh... cause he was really good..."
@DarkViper99 dont forget bison and vega and cammy and ryu and ken and akuma and gouken and rufus and guile and balrog and cody and makoto and and everyone else
@t0m0369 Learn to zone him. Zangief is like Honda in that he does very high damage close up, but has hardly any options to get in. All he can really do without meter is lariat, and if you bait those, you can sweep. With meter he has green hand. Also, if the other person is doing a lot of command grabs, jump back and do some instant overheads or something to him.
No it's not. Take Bison for example. A beginner would most likely have a harder time defending against Bisons headstomps than the Bison defending against Hadoukens. Which is what the Ryu would most likely be spamming, leaving himself open to being jumped over.
I hadouken until bison says "UPPPPPP" then I neutral jump with HP, unless he does a fake and pruple hands, then I just see if he's coming towrds me or flying away. Close game however is pokes.
I main Ryu most of the time, but in my arsenal of moves, hadoken is one of the least used ones while tatsumaki senpuu kyaku is my most favorite. But it's best to think of Zangief as a big ball of herpes and keep him as far away from you as possible.
@muscleandtan have you vs anyone who spams just haduken? how bad did you beat him? If diago was only that simple to beat aye.. He also uses other character but not as his main.. Check them out
OMFG, what the heck are they playing with, is this 2 x Hori real arcade pro 3 joystick, in the beginning? It looks unmodded, and with stock HRAP3 Hori buttons, or am I mistaking...How the hell do world`s best players not use genuine Sanwa buttons?!
Good combo need to come naturaly during a match. If you focus to much on doing them you will lose very badly.Kinda like Shoryuken/Ex focus / Ultra . Daigo do it naturally not me :P / In training mode i can spam it 24/24 . But doing it in a match it's a different story.
@MASTERSHAKE1557 Then they're probably playing bad Giefs. Every pro player knows up close Zangief has the advantage. Ryu's best strategy is to keep medium/distance range. That's the strategy Daigo uses (who has undoubtedly the best Ryu in the world, and arguably the best player in the world).
With my not so fluent Japanese, they set rules so that Daigo wasn't allowed to use something. (Didn't know exactly what it was due to my lack of fluency). But using logic, that "something" was most likely his ultra.
yeah you're right in a battle vs a equal player its much harder to execute the moves, well unfortenatly i cant give u a proof cuz i dont have a xbox live account and i wont play sf4 on the pc
Who said I was comparing the two things? I was using it by logic. Use your brain please. No, the reason better players ARE form the US/JPN is because that's where the biggest base of players are located. Bigger base of players = more competition = more high level players. That simple.
No worries man. The thing is, I've been a fighter way before this game, I just was hoping for something better and people hump the game too much. I mean, I love fighters and I wanted them to be revived, but not the way it did. That's one of the many reasons I'm upset with this game.
I wish someone would make the obvious fighting system they never have. full control over special moves and regular moves without freakish ways to perform them so you can just fight like a real fight not an awkward-gameplay-hindered fight. Maybe someone made such a game somewhere.... I've seen some freeware like that but maybe commercial...
why did kaimisawesome get thumbs down for that comment???? Hes absolutely right. Have yall people not heard of kuroda, hayao or KO before??? And thats just to name a few. Either yall are completely clueless daigo fanboys or yall are in denial. Id say both.
then i get thrown if i get TRICKED not ticks, and i have alot of different ways to fight with Ryu, and i know Zangief can't grab people in the air, so i would just jump over and away from him. high level doesn't mean shit to me, it is just a game
i think the reason daigo is famous is because of Street fighter 3 he could beat anyone because of that parry system it dont matter how good u are if u master parry ull win no matter what but SF4 is different

Daigo's face after that match was priceless.
Wow, I'm surprised Daigo lost, he was zoning pretty well. But damn, Savion Glover didn't do as much tapping in his tap dancing routine as I heard in these rounds lol

Those are HRAP sticks and they are using usb converters from PS2 to PS3. =)
he was champ in USA .. hes one of the few japanese playas that came to the usa to compete..
Zangief isn't slow in Sf4. His Green hand (especially EX version) lets him cover a lot of ground fast. He can get in on people pretty quickly. Plus, he can just walk up to a lot of people and corner them with his Lariat.
Itazan is so good. I love his Gief, really fun to watch
oh, i have never been to an arcade so that might be a reason why i might be comfortable with it. i do admit though, heavy shoryuken to focus attack, then cancel, and then metsu hadouken is really hard to do.
no TICKING in to throws not tricked. ticking means he hits u with light punch then he throws u. he can crossup into it as well. its extremely hard to avoid so best to play the distance game.
@SeventhSun "When it comes to sports, music, fashion and video games you can always count on me to do my best" ...
Exactly, projectiles isn't the best idea and when you're down, chances are most Giefs tend to do a cross up and do some wakeup game on you. I friggin hate when that happens, so hard to get out.

why is there no street fighter ex plus alpha tournament ?
@Demoniq
lol.he does sometimes. And no, he doesnt has a clone friend who looks just like him,AND uses his nickname in a public broadcast.
man, daigo sure looked uncomfortable after he lost, see how long it took him to realize to clap? poor guy
no FiOS, just regular verizon DSL. i guess it's mainly a person to person thing. ive played 1-2 bar connections without problems, and yet ive lagged on 3-4 bar connections. also, im going to assume at least most of the french and spanish connections i encounter are mexican and french canadian. but that doesn't take away the fact that ive had good games with german, korean, and japanese players.
The difference between most sf4 players and daigo is that daigo is THE man to beat in EVERY SF game. That's what makes him a legend.
wow, some crazy footsies he was playing.
much respect to daigo and itazan
Actually Daigo beat Itabashi in TRF on the 5th, then beat him again on TRF 29th, and also beat him in the Arcadia concept matches.
because it's hard to execute them in a real match. That's why it's amazing when someone does. Practice them so you take advantage of opportunities.
No i'm not wrong. You're just being ignorant. Just because Ryu is used alot doesn't mean he is the easiest. Zangief for example is really easy to use, you do a lariat and it negates most jumping attacks, wakeup attacks, and even fireballs.
After this event in the video was over, they took a group picture.
Daigo's the only one not smiling.
This video gives me such inspiration to stay with gief seein a player out footsey daigo. They say his heart grew three sizes that day.
Its pretty clear that Capcom wanted to make Ryu one of the best chars in this game. Countless ways into connecting his ultra. wow im working hard to get my pressure game with geif to that level. great vid!
Diago should have used the focus cancel to get out some more moves instead of those HP Shroyukens
@gooch036 yea... sorta like rock paper scissors. if you dont use all 3 theyll have a higher chance of winning.
@TancerFang nah he still is, thats why his getting nerf in ssf4
true, daigo's still the man, i think he needs time to hone in on taking advantage of focus attacks
Hi! How to make movie that Zangiev perform at 2:57-2:58 (fast sprint forward + taking haduken without damage)?
The gallery at the end were all like
"Awwww!! God!! [that's what they call Daigo] How could you lose!?"
and Daigo was like
"Uhhhh... cause he was really good..."
I don't understand why you're trying to stray from the subject. But i'll take that as a concession. Thanks.
What are you talking about--he also looks that way when he wins.
Is it just me or does daigo never want to remove his attention from the screen? lol
@DarkViper99 dont forget bison and vega and cammy and ryu and ken and akuma and gouken and rufus and guile and balrog and cody and makoto and and everyone else

good point i never really looked at his face but now that u mention it its true his face dnt change win or lose kinda just like a robot lol
notice when daigo won a round, everyone got quiet
then started yelling asian languages when zangief pretty much had the last round
look at their pads, theyre still playing on the good old nintendo
No it's not. Take Bison for example. A beginner would most likely have a harder time defending against Bisons headstomps than the Bison defending against Hadoukens. Which is what the Ryu would most likely be spamming, leaving himself open to being jumped over.

-_- daigo during tsunami
-_- daigo during earthquake
-_- daigo during nuclear explosion
@muscleandtan have you vs anyone who spams just haduken? how bad did you beat him? If diago was only that simple to beat aye.. He also uses other character but not as his main.. Check them out

Daigo looks like he was gonna kill somebody and then thought "Oh wait, remember to clap. They'll never suspect me if I clap first."
what´s about Daigo? He was a Champ in 3rd Strike, and now? Has the game change so much, or doesn´t he play a lot?
Umm are you also forgetting that his ultra is also unblockable?
sf always skipped frames based on priority of stronger attack and /or who performed it faster.
What is Daigo trying to counter with standing medium punch?
Good combo need to come naturaly during a match. If you focus to much on doing them you will lose very badly.Kinda like Shoryuken/Ex focus / Ultra . Daigo do it naturally not me :P / In training mode i can spam it 24/24 . But doing it in a match it's a different story.
i have no idea what you mean by that.
you cant be refering to the controller, because atari had a joystick
@MASTERSHAKE1557 Then they're probably playing bad Giefs. Every pro player knows up close Zangief has the advantage. Ryu's best strategy is to keep medium/distance range. That's the strategy Daigo uses (who has undoubtedly the best Ryu in the world, and arguably the best player in the world).
@gooch036 yea. sorta like rock paper scissors. j/ need to know whe to use your paper against the solid rock...
With my not so fluent Japanese, they set rules so that Daigo wasn't allowed to use something. (Didn't know exactly what it was due to my lack of fluency). But using logic, that "something" was most likely his ultra.
yup i just started using hadoken quite abit myself
yeah you're right in a battle vs a equal player its much harder to execute the moves,
well unfortenatly i cant give u a proof cuz i dont have a xbox live account and i wont play sf4 on the pc
foward down foward punch? its easy you just gotta get use to it
@rmena92 with bison, vega, ryu, ken, balrog your right fei long is awesome akuma is awesome :D
XBox live name is WOWYOUSERIOUS and yes i live on the east coast and play
sf4
wat happens if he ticks into throw eh? your strategy doesnt work agaisnt high level players
@raff2112 Ryu is higher up on the tier list lol
Not to mention it is hard for Zangief to get close to Ryu
look for it on ebay hommie. i found mine sf4 stick for 59.99...it wasnt new but the condition i received it was 5 stars :)
@muscleandtan Your totally right, he should just run into Zangief and just keep eating throws...Wait, that's not right...
Thats flashy? Thats like a B&B combo for Rog. Flashy is like ex upper, 2 lp x4 with headbutt then ultra
command grabs get priority over punches and kicks.
if your capable of pulling that stuff off than the Gief you're playing against is worthless.
It's good to see this story has a happy ending :)
I wasn't talking to you. Which is why that wasn't posted in your "comments".
true, but just alittle too much in sf4 from what i've seen so far...but don't fear he's probably 10 x better by now with cancels and whats not
Who said I was comparing the two things? I was using it by logic. Use your brain please.
No, the reason better players ARE form the US/JPN is because that's where the biggest base of players are located. Bigger base of players = more competition = more high level players. That simple.
i started playin sf with SF IV and i've mained abel ever since^^
he converts his opponent's souls into fuel
No worries man. The thing is, I've been a fighter way before this game, I just was hoping for something better and people hump the game too much. I mean, I love fighters and I wanted them to be revived, but not the way it did. That's one of the many reasons I'm upset with this game.

anyone knows how old is daigo now, like hes been around since sf2 long time back?..
Same ol Daigo, he starts loosing, he starts spamming
Daigo is a Street Fighter playing robot, similar to that one that plays chess, hence his lack of emotions.
So if i hit an ex headbutt with rog i shouldn't combo into ultra because its flashy?
but if daigo was a robot how would he devour his opponent's souls?
Really sorry if someone has answered this already but is this a weekly tv-show or a video blog... What is it?
Wow, Daigo showed some emotion here.
god damn..Ryu's whole health bar dissaspeared in seconds!
Sarcasm my friend... might want to get to know it on the interwebs.
then i get thrown if i get TRICKED not ticks, and i have alot of different ways to fight with Ryu, and i know Zangief can't grab people in the air, so i would just jump over and away from him. high level doesn't mean shit to me, it is just a game
@galva07 aloha zangief is also a good one
Was 2:39 a safe jump?
I think he's in his late 20s now.
@wolfpackflt670 it's pretty obvious they aren't mashing... -.-
i think the reason daigo is famous is because of Street fighter 3 he could beat anyone because of that parry system it dont matter how good u are if u master parry ull win no matter what but SF4 is different
My friend, just remember, two wrongs don't make a right. If you insult him, you will be no better than he. Be the bigger man and brush him off. ^^
is there video of that
whoa whoa whoa... but it takes skill to actually get to hugging distance with zangief.. especially people who know how to play keep away
2:00 why did gief not ultra?!?!?!
