Back then in s5 iirc, AP character can cancel special active into active skill which make them so cancerous to play againts (dio , lupus, ley)

Not quite right , example of this is like canceling dio special active "death scythe" into active skill "evil shock", "dominate hand", etc
This kind of thing will give u a lot of frame advantage that can also lead into some insane dmg combo or just free grab
