- Inspired by academic libraries and countless heritage and memory institutions around the world, McGill University’s Collections Centre, a 45,000 square-foot complex in Valleyfield, is the first of its kind in Quebec. Using robots and almost 93,000 bins, a geometric steel grid two stories high, and a specialized retrieval system, the Collections Centre processes over 2 million borrowed and returned materials in an efficient way. By moving a large portion of the University’s print collection to this new, specially designed, temperature-controlled environment, McGill Libraries will be able to repurpose valuable in-library space to better serve the needs of today’s students, faculty, and researchers.
