You are such an amazing teacher! Be confident! This makes total sense and it’s an awesome perspective to have. On top of what you said I’d imagine the spots you find aren’t touch as much as the bank.
Partner and I would only fish bank because we lacked electronics and or understanding but would see guys off shore. We tried it a little but would give up because our time was/is limited so we would go back fish shallow/banks. I’ve upgraded my electronics now end of season but can’t wait to retry off shore next season. Great tip thank you.
Except...the assumption is that fish can be found off shore or seen on the graph. They may not...and there's the rub. Can scan say 10 high percentage points etc and fish can be hidden in areas or... I could just fish these. Because often times Im hearing folks say they scanned for several hours and found some on a couple good points....well? Why not just fish the points in the first place? There has to be a balance between a reasonable time scanning and fishing what should be high percentage places anyways.

Take your time to learn and understand your electronics, and you'll be good. It was a bit of a learning curve for me, but we'll worth the time.
Your insight is really valuable. I'm starting to fish offshore and it is tough going sometimes
For smallmouth, trolling in spring and fall will locate schools of fish. So this while your graphing
