I don't have a speech impediment but I feel like it would be so valid to say "I have a speech impediment." And leave it at that. If they feel bad after hearing that maybe they should.. maybe they were kind of intrusive in the way they asked and should think about it.
It happens to me as well but I don't have a speech impediment. I have autism which makes me talk weird. Maybe I should start saying I have a speech impediment.
@em84c just remember you don't owe strangers anything. Whatever you feel more comfortable with is best for you. Just don't care too much about what others might feel. It's about you!
Thank you for uploading today. I am very sad from the results of the election as a PR single 30 yo woman but I laughed and found some optimism after watching. Keep it up
The strongest part of Jacob's impediment seems to be the pronunciation of "r" sounds. I had the same thing as a child (pronounced my rs very similar to how Jacob does). It is actually the most common speech impediment, especially for children. Most grow out of it naturally. My parents put me in speech therapy and that helped me figure out how to pronounce them. But there are still certain words that other people seem fine with but are difficult for me to get my mouth around hah. I can't believe people think it's an accent..... doesn't sound like an accent at all, just sounds like his unique way of speaking and pronouncing words.
Yeah it's kinda crazy, like are all these people who think he has an accent totally unfamiliar with one of the most common speech impediments? What accent sounds like that?
Speaking of lying to strangers, one time I got my hair done with a new stylist and decided that I was going to pretend that I had a twin. The entire hour and a half appointment I made up a completely different life story about my twin and I. I felt like such a fraud! Halfway through it, I think she started to find some cracks in my story, but I was already committed and couldn’t bare to tell her that I was actually lying the entire time 😅 & to top it off, my hair ended up looking terrible lol
My son has a very similar impediment so I knew what Jacobs voice was from. My son's 9 and about to start speech therapy. I like watching Jacobs videos in front of him so he can hear someone else that sounds like him! Why representation matters. 💙
My son has a speech impediment and is in speech therapy (he's 4). I don't hear his speech impediment unless I'm specifically listening for it, but most people can barely understand him. I think when you listen to a person a lot, your brain just adapts to their speech patterns so you can understand them. I truly don't notice Jacob's speech impediment most of the time. I don't think it's because I'm an amazing person or anything, I think it's just because the human brain is great at understanding other people's speech patterns.
I immediately watched one of your other videos when I woke up this morning, I didn't wanna watch the news. Thanks for sharing about your speech, must be frustrating at times how people react.
aint no wayyyyyy. I just found out this is active again a few hours ago. watched 2 episodes, refreshed the page and a new one is out lol. as if lol YESSSSSSSSSS
As someone who grew up with a speech impediment, I can say it was normal for me to be asked on the first day of school if I’m British. I was always like haha no and brushed past it, because I too didn’t want to make them feel bad for pointing out my speech impediment lol
I know exactly what TH-camrs you were confused for, there’s a gay couple that does cruise videos on here, I think one of their names is Ben, I can’t remember the other guy’s name. Apparently they can’t tell gay people apart 😭
Thank you guys. I need this distraction. I’m an AFAB nonbinary person with a trans femme partner and times just feel extra disgusting and scary. Thank you.
Ah! I have a speech impediment, likely due to my autism, and I find it quite intrusive for people to ask about the way I talk (and yes, they often assume it's an accent.) I know it's just curiosity and they think they're making conversation, but it makes me even more self-conscious about my speech when people fixate on it.
Work on building up your confidence surrounding your voice, and just tell those people “it’s my autism accent!” Like another girl suggesting on here. Sure, people might act embarrassed, but that isn’t on you..that is on them. They need the confidence to not be embarrassed and the confidence to say something kind like “well, Ali find your voice to be very unique and beautiful.” Which can be very hard to do when we are embarrassed (for anybody!) but when we take control of a situation with confidence we are pushing past our comfort zone, which always helps us grow as people! Plus, it puts the ball in your court in the social interaction, which pushes others to challenge themselves to respond in a better way. All of us struggle in these types of social interactions, and that’s okay! It’s but a blip in time in the long scheme of things! I hope you learn to love all of the things that make you you! And trust me, we fixate on our quirks *FAR MORE* than anybody else does! Everybody else is busy worried about their own things..they just might be better at hiding it or they have things that are more invisible/less tangible that they are dealing with. 💓💗🩷❤️
My cousin had the same speech impediment, so I always thought the assumptions people would make about Jacob's voice were silly. I think my cousin did speech therapy, because their's vitually disappeared over some time. I was really surprised because I thought it would never. Can't imagine Jacob without his though; I see it as an interesting trait that just adds to his character.
The speech impediment thing is crazy to me cause I remember discovering Jacob’s channel and literally subscribing just because of his voice. I could listen all day it’s so cute 😫 people need to go outside more!
I don't get the concept of having to register to be able to vote. That feels so wrong. Are they trying to discourage people from voting? Where I live, as soon as you turn 16, you automatically are sent the ballot forms for every vote. In some states, it is even mandatory and you get fined if you don't vote. If you don't want to, you have to return the forms in order not to be fined.
Are they trying to discourage people from voting? Yes. Absolutely yes. That's expressly the purpose of it. The fewer people that vote, the more republicans win. That's a fact that republicans have understood for decades and a major part of the republican agenda is to restrict voting as much as possible. That's why there are long lines at polling places, and the election is only for 1 day, on a Tuesday, so that working class people are less likely to be able to do it.
I love your voice Jacob it's all part of your Nebraskan vibe! Also please never stop making these videos again they're getting me through these rough days
I don't have a speech impediment but I talk weird because I have autism. I am always getting asked what country Im from when I was born in the city I live (and Im white). They are like "no you have accent". Im just like "I do?" It makes me feel sooo awkward. I decided Im going to say "its my autistic accent" but I haven't been able to do it yet because I know they will feel awkward. They are usually just trying to be friendly. Its high too and I sound like a 3 year old on the phone. 😭 Edit: omg yes they have outright asked where my parents are from too when I say I was born here. My grandparents are from Poland and sometimes I say that and they are like that must be it..One time the person said "no thats not it, its like British or something". Its always customers at work or random people who talk to you at the bus stop who do it. Ive never had friends or family say I talk weird.
I think you should totally respond with that! I’m autistic too, and a I think that is a great response! You can do it! Don’t feel scared or insecure either, say it with confidence and a smile and you can put them at ease when/if they react embarrassed. But hopefully they would just say, “well I think your voice is very unique and beautiful”. And leave it at that. I feel bad taking people off guard too, but sometimes it helps build my confidence because then the ball is in my court and a I just have to follow through with that confidence. Pushing ourselves past our comfort zone helps us grow! 💓💗🩷❤️ I know you can do it!
I don’t think people think Jacob is from another country, I think they are expecting that he’ll respond something like Boston or somewhere in Massachusetts (even though I don’t think he sounds like he is from there, but people who don’t know accents well would probably assume something along those lines because he definitely sounds American). Not many people seem to know much about speech impediments unless they knew somebody in real life with some kind of speech impediment.
When I was in high school, I became friends with a new group of people and I’m kind of socially inept so I didn’t realize when I met somebody who had rhotacism that it was a speech impediment, and I asked her where she was from and that I loved her accent, and her other friends stepped up and aggressively said ITS A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT because I’m pretty sure she thought I was just trying to be mean and I was not. I didn’t know what rhotacism was.
I went in to vote when I was 20 (first election I could vote in), they announced, “We have a first time voter!” and everyone clapped for me. Honestly can’t top that and just mail in now LOL
I like randomly one day saw the “Circus, Circus” hotel and casino review in a suggested watch, so I watched it to kill some time, then I found myself watching both of your channels separately and really enjoy you guys. This is similar to what I would like to be doing myself, and I’m slowly getting there. But anyways i’m rambling, I think you guys have a great sense of humor and such a brotherly bond. You both are killing it, I love your voices, and content! Come to columbus I’ll show you some cool places to review!! Keep being hilarious, smart, and sweet. So inspiring and enjoyable, Kirk from Columbus Ohio 😊
I wish Lucas and Jacob along with everyone in this chat who are looking for a distraction from what's going on right now in our country peace and strength.
The puke and rally thing, in UK we call it "tactical chunder" or taccy C for short lol, usually if you drank too much too early on a night out and already feel sick at like 10pm... then you do a tactical chunder so that you dont have to leave early hahah

Jacob's voice wears off - one gets used to it. Sometime after a couple videos, I stopped noticing anything different about it 🤙
