    After watching your video and a few others last year I found a wrecked 08 FJ on CoPart and purchased it for 4700 with 143k miles. It's the tan version with traction control, diff locker, power everything and other than the front end damage, which was pretty extensive, it's in excellent shape. I have to replace passenger side suspension, inner and outer fender, bumper, grill and other components, radiators and rock sliders. Motor still runs perfect and it shifts perfect. Can't wait until spring to finish all the work and get it back on the road. Just love everything about these vehicles!!

    I just bought a 2014 automatic 4x4, cause the manual 4x4 was full time 4WD and worse gas mileage. It has a lot more pickup than a 2020 4runner.
    I love it. Drove in the wind and rain for the first time yesterday and it was very loud. Dont know if it's the rack on top or just not very aerodynamic or cause it's not a little car, like my 1993 celica with 424k miles.
    I bought it at the crappy Toyota of Daytona dealership, and got them to do the transmission flush, all the other stuff they did was aftermarket, even the in cabin filter that was packed with dirt and leaves. I paid them for front and rear differential flush. They didnt even wax it to get the grey /black streaks off. They delivered it dirty.
    Took it to my Toyota of wesley chapel for a toyota used car inspection and I wanted a coolant flush, also power steering was low and dirty, so did that, serpentine belt was 20k miles past due, and rear brake pads were at 2 and 4mm, called Daytona Toyota and they said they knew they were at 3mm but wouldn't pay to have replaced as a safety issue, so I had to.
    I bought parts for an exhaust gasket noise, have to fix that next week.
    I put just over 2k of work after I bought it, I cleaned the dirty inside and washed and waxed with Toyota cleaner wax to get the dark streaks off my white FJ. Will polish in 2 weeks. Bought FJ floor and cargo mats.
    I finally feel like it's my FJ now, and I'm taking care of it better than it has been for the last few years.
    Yay, I finally got my FJ🌞🌞🌞🌞

      Congrats! Always seems like a big game of catch up on maintenance and cleaning whenever you buy a used car! I rented a 2018 4Runner last year and couldn't believe how much less power it seemed to have than the FJ.

    Have to agree with all your points, my friend. I have an army green 2014 stock FJC. I bought it when I heard they discontinued it. Came with the stock side bars/steps, roof rack, hitch, crawler, side mirror lamps, and all the other bells and whistles. Favorite utility vehicle I've ever owned. I've had Jeeps, 4x4 trucks and a Land Rover. The FJ beats all of em! I've literally had a dozen dealers call me to ask if I want to sell it.

    Another thing that I really like about them is how well they're painted. Living in Minnesota I can't say I have ever seen an FJ with rust issues on the outside. Toyota build quality is usually stellar across the board. I am excited for the Bronco, because maybe Toyota will deem the FJ to be profitable, again, especially considering the fact that SUVs are selling like hotcakes right now. I do like 4runners but the nice thing about FJs is all of the color variations and the fact that most of the ones I have seen have factory lockers.

    • @dironaa

      We have salt on the road 6 months out of the year where I live. The top side looks good, but the frame has suffered and one of my rocker panels is starting to rot. What would be even better is if Toyota brought back the FJ but made it out of aluminum!

    I bought a 2010. 2 years ago with 87k miles. Checked NHTSA with my vin and 0 ZERO RECALLS. Checked it again this year and still zero recalls. I changed all fluids myself because it’s so easy. Greased the zirk fittings my self and good to go. Original factory seat materials are extremely durable but I did install seat covers due to my two dogs. Al factory stock with AT AND ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. I did put a set of new BFG AT KO2. no lift , nothing else. I like yours but mine more because it’s iceberg white. LOL 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    • @dironaa
      @dironaa  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iceberg white is one of the better colors the offered, lucky you. The early FJs (mine included) had a recall for the front seat belts. Apparently where they attach to the rear doors needed to be reinforced because they could tear out in a crash. Glad we didn't have to deal with the Takata airbag recall on these things!

    • @ding174
      @ding174 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dirona I know right. Somehow when they designed and built these it just seems they wanted to put the best they had into a shorter wheel base package without sacrificing safety, durability and reliability. And they don’t rattle and drive so smooth. Just a little above normal exhaust and road noise I think because of the lack of extra sound insulation due to lack of cloth carpet. But man it is a very capable all around vehicle. Land Rover is what you drive into the forest. Toyota is what you drive to get you out. LOL

  • @freethinker1413
    @freethinker1413 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Toyota means it runs for ever! They are expensive because as every knows they stoped making them, so an FJ with 80,000 miles well kept with 4X4 will still run you over 20K and up. TRD and Trail Teams Editions fetch even more and rightfully so. The white roof is called a break. It was used in the early productions of the FJ Cruisers and the purpose was for Safari journeys. So that when you churning around in the Jungle no matter the color of the truck, the top area would always be seen against the green trees.

      So true especially with all the jeeps out there ! the jeep has a cult following .. everybody who owns a jeep like to wave at each other as they pass not the fj owners ,why is that ? But if you are in your fj and some white old guy in a jeep rubicon waves at you thats me ... yep i bought my fj in 2012 got married in 2013 wife wanted a jeep so i bought her a rubicon i built my fj to go where the rubicon can and i love my fj stopped driving it when we bought the rubicon as i was. Saving the miles for when the jeep breaks down I didnt like driving the jeep when i first bought it ,it looked so plain and ugly , and the wife wouldnt let me put my touch to it for the first two years the third year she said ok go ahead because she was tired of me complaining about how ugly it was i dropped 14 g into the jeep and now it looks as good as my fj and i dont mind driving it after driving both i must say the jeep is slightly more capable in the off road setting than my fj ... and its because of the straight axle in front and the sway bar release that gives it the most articulation and firmly plants the rubicon The A arm suspension of the fj is its only hinderance but listen when im in my fj i will follow any jeep where ever it goes because i trust my fj And it has everything the jeep has except the front sway bar release and straight axle

    I've wanted one since they came out but the price was just out of my range. I finally took a chance, got on CoPart looking for a wrecked one I could rebuild myself and was able to snag a 2008 with quite a few options for 4700. It was in a pretty good front end collision and will take me a few months to get road worthy again but the motor and trans are tight, looks like the previous owner kept it mechanically sound and the mileage at 143 k for a Toyota isn't bad, interior is perfect and except for the actual crash damage the rest of the body is excellent. I'll have to replace bumper and the steel components under it, left fender and internal suppost, radiator and support, headlightsw, grill and some smaller parts but around 2000 for parts is my estimate. Also have to replace left front suspension parts. Once complete not counting labor I think I'll have around 8 grand in it with upgrades I'm planning on and to me that's a pretty cheap price for one. Can't wait to do some travelling and offroading, nothing compares to an FJ!

      @@farrukhsaud03 I have the 2014 FJ automatic stock and I'm getting 20mpg. I can get less and I can get more. On a trip from California to Washington with 70mph zone I was getting 26mpg. Going through Utah with 85mph speed zones I was only getting 16mpg. So go figure. Oh and I just paid it off 6 months ago. And just yesterday after a round of golf my golf mate complimented my FJ like he's never seen anything like it before. Very rewarding.
      I wouldn't worry about the mileage. 2nd & 3rd Gen 4Runners are selling like hotcakes because everyone needs reliability and a 4Runner over 200,000 miles still gets you anywhere you want to go. Toyotas keep you from wasting your time in the service department and out doing stuff in life.

    Hey guy..., Am fascinated by your video, you are absolutely right; the designers of FJ did an incredible work. As a digital art design I am, the sketching of FJ is rugged and wicked look, despite other SUV out there, like 2021 Land Cruiser, M Benz, Jeep, Ford, Bronco, Nissan, Peugeot and GMC...e.g..which are also stylish, but above all and within all FJ Cruiser has a unique look and incredibly physics when it comes to any obstacles-offroad from other SUV; which is my best SUV?

    Wanted one since they came out in 07 finally got one. Love it things a beast do not buy a two-wheel drive one they're useless got to put mine in 4-wheel drive to get out of wet grass. Also if you have an early model like mine disconnect traction control newer ones have a switch to do so I live in New York and in the snow your tires won't spin but you also have zero power to accelerate sometimes you got to get going a little faster then Turtle speed

    • @dironaa
      @dironaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really sucks that they didn't install a factory traction control switch. Unfortunately every mod I've found to disable traction control also disables the ABS system. Of the many cars I've had, the FJ is the first I've owned with ABS and I'm not willing to give that up right now, so I find myself popping the transfer case in 4wd on many uphill stops in the rain and snow to keep the engine from cutting power due to loss of traction. Am hoping better tires will improve this situation (current ones are fairly low quality).

      @hunkaboomer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha ha... oh yeah, the blind spots are wicked awful. When you have to change lanes or merge, you check, double check, and then lean forward and check again. I bought mine new in 2011 and have had regular and timely maintenance ever since, so it runs beautifully like a Toyota should. Whenever I got a bit stuck (snow, mud, sand), the four wheel drive laughed in the face of adversity. Had it garaged and drove it sporadically due to COVID last winter so had the wiring chewed by evil rodents and paid dearly to have it repaired. All is well now. The back seat is only for my dogs... I definitely would not enjoy sitting in those hard (strangely way too upright) seats for a lengthy period of time! The speakers in the rear look and sound like an old school boom box 😂. The whole package makes me wonder about the design engineer. But my favorite part of the FJ is the rear window... totally clever. Good tires are a good investment!

    I would really like to get one in the future. I have an Xterra and my brother has an Fj. We're from the gcc so most of the off-roading is sand dunes.
    In terms of power, Xterra wins. It climbs taller dunes and does it faster. And better visibility, turning radius.
    Everything else, Fj is better. Higher quality Interior, stronger and more comfy suspension, and I like the looks more. But it's too expensive in the used market!
    Both are reliable and hopefully I can have them both.

    • @dironaa
      @dironaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I briefly debated between getting an Xterra or FJ, but like you said the FJ is better looking and I expect the Toyota drivetrain to last longer without major problems than the Nissan. But I agree, if circumstances allow I wouldn't mind having one of each.

      These were already installed on the FJ when I bought it. The are Yakima cross bars with Yakima control towers, and as I understand it, the previous owner made adapters to bolt the control towers to the FJ roof out of some aluminum blocks. Dirona The recall affected about 225,000 trucks and but not the FJ Cruiser so I guess it’s no big deal! About 40,000 less units than Jeep Liberty rust recall. The Liberty was a POS new anyway, I wish they had never built it to begin with. And the JK is a study on how not to design a passenger vehicle. The new JL Wrangler is decent, sort of what the JK should have been.

    • @dironaa
      @dironaa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thought I already replied but guess I must not have hit the reply button. There was never a recall. Toyota had the decency to own up to its mistake, Chrysler didn't. There are a lot of angry TJ owners in the northeast US and Canada whose frames rotted out from under them. The factory never installed drain holes so the frames rotted from the inside out. It's very rare to see a TJ frame in the northeast without patches welded on it (I take a peek every time I walk by a TJ in a parking lot LOL). I actually posted a video about a month ago on how I chose to drill holes in the frame on my TJ (which was imported from sunny, dry California). And I agree, aside from how 'electronic' it is, I like the JL much better than the JK.
