I have a few things to say: 1. The source you mentioned for the WNDT owl from 1968 is called "All in the Game." 2. That same owl logo is shown THREE times in the source, not ONCE. (Warning: the second one may not be too clear.) 3. For the 5th logo, I went with "The Split Rectangles." 4. The logo used from 1999 to 2006 has a few station id's. Four of them to be exact.
This was a decent presentation. I thought the microphone quality went extremely loud at certain points, which bothered me from continuing watching this. Nevertheless, the reviews on these logos were nice, and I do agree with you that the 2019 logo is the best animated modern logo from the previous 2 logos WNET had, and most of the logos (up to the late 1980s/1990s) still using old techniques, which is certainly interesting. I enjoyed the conclusion to this too, and let's make 2020 another great year for CCG88! :-)
What's crazy is that I had a memory that WNET had been called something else during my early childhood, which I thought was WNED (but that's the PBS station in Buffalo, NY). So it was WNDT. Thanks for clearing that up. (PS: Got to admit, the 70s music is my favorite also...and as for the "Art Deco" 13, you could see it, correctly oriented, on the tote bag you'd get if you donated to the station back then.
The logo at approx 8:10 (we called it "the Venetian Blinds" logo) has the correct colors in this first version, starting an orangey-red and ending a low luminance cyan-teal. I produced it together with a WNET graphics designer, and we chose the colors very carefully. Unfortunately some tape editors decided to change the second color to a more standard (and boring) blue. The audio here, from a 35mm print, is almost without the "wow" caused by poor playback speeds found in most of the other versions.
I think how they did the spotlight logo at 19:57 was that someone moved a structure with a large flashlight through a carved box with "WNET" carved on it, while the circular moving text was animated. I suspect the box was raised via a raising platform raised to the exact same height (maybe) as the searchlight structure.
Yeah I Watch cyberchase ever since I was a kid back when I first saw it in 2013 and I still do today I don't care What age I am It feels amazing to have it still going after 20 years
Same. I think that some of the logos shown in this video were from the end of the show. I do remember a couple "Barney & Friends" episodes using the 2009-2019 logo.
I like this series, you know, my favorite PBS Member Station is...well East Tennessee PBS, since it's both my local station, and the place I intern at.
Same and I still watch it to this day, Whoever hate the show, well they can go frick themselves cause this is also my childhood show and still will, nobody can change my mind
Interesting history though. But there were a few that were missing in this episode. The “Abstract 13” logo was introduced in around 1979 or 1980 to be exact. The “Abstract 13” can be used for station sign-offs and earlier idents from the 1980’s. There was one logo that I remember before watching “Square One TV” back in 1988 was “Only the Best” ident with the “Abstract 13” in a radar. That was from the mid to late 1980’s. I’ll have to dig deep to find them.
CCG88 BTW, as you mentioned that WNET signed on back on May 15th, 1948, and that was a month before WPIX-TV (channel 11) signed on a month later which was June 15th of that same year. Both WNET and WPIX were signed on in 1948.
Before anyone asks, no, NET is not the same NET before PBS demolished it, you might be fooled i to thinking so because one of the logos was straight up called NET, and that was in the 70's, that was not the same NET that went on to die because of PBS, that was still WNET.
My fav from this RLE was the Radar logo. 16:56 Most video caught WNET logos aren't bad, like the skyscraper logo, the structure one confused bits of people, saying that the 13 in that one looked a bit like ones rear, but they havent turned it. The bubbles logo is unique, imo. I like the Red background on one of the 'bubbles' logos. It kinda looks like the bubbles are forming fireworks. 23:09 I've seen the skyscrapers logo many times (mainly the second version). 24:21 I like the bgm on the overall vid and the non fiction television on the superimposed sliding bars logo.
Actually, WNTA signed off on December 22, 1961, due to a transfer (which was going to be on December 13 originally, but a few last-minute issues arose resulting in a 9-day delay). WNDT was essentially a revival of channel 13 in New York.
There was one for Sprout that had 2 reported versions. The one that was found had only Thirteen and the camera moved slowly, and one which no text appears at all, and only has footage of the empire state building which is lost.
15 de Mayo de 1948 nace WATV, en Newark, Nueva Jersey y en Nueva York, después generó sus transmisiones como WNTA-TV (1958), WNDT (1962) y WNET (1970).
3:51 That’s what I was talking about. The music sounds really weird. I know the pics are black and white bc it was old but the music.... creepy 0-0 But what was the movie called when that ended? I like all the other ones tho :)
I think the spot light one was interesting. Somebody could have used a flash light or a stage light to light up the WNET box since it was made in life action.
The 5th logo looks like an in-credit logo to me, so I think i’ll call it “In-Credit WNDT” or “In-Credit 13”. EDIT: Another thing, the WATV logo might’ve been a print logo they placed around the station.

The 2020 prediction didn’t happen until 2021 with a very simple logo under the name "The WNET Group" and I call the 1963 logo "The 13"
Actually, WNTA signed off on December 22, 1961, due to a transfer (which was going to be on December 13 originally, but a few last-minute issues arose resulting in a 9-day delay). WNDT was essentially a revival of channel 13 in New York.
