During my Air Force career, I worked on the B-1B test program from 1985-1988. It had a lot of bugs to be worked out as with any new weapon system. The formal name designated for it is the B-1B Lancer. But... For us maintenance technicians, we designated it the B-1B HAWK. HAWK standing for... Holiday And Weekend Killer.

The Russian White Swans still can fly and are effective until this present day. Look up the availability rates of the B1... you'd be surprised the F35 availability rates of around 40% and I think that is way too high, make the B1's availability rate look extremely low. If none can fly, do they really matter?

That plane is a beast that definitely gets your attention. I was in Tampa when McDill AFB was having an air show, I couldn’t really see it there as there was a row of trees between myself and the end of the runway. I was outside the building I was working at, I heard a really loud roar and then it came over the top of the row trees at about 600 ft, full afterburners in a bank to get back over the base, I was absolutely awestruck, at the beauty and power of that plane. Years later, I can still see it in my minds eye, it’s the most awesome aircraft …..EVER

I strongly prefer no narrator at all compared to those ridiculous CG voices most channels use that sound like they have no idea what the words mean. Because they don't. I tried to figure out what one meant by, "Six point five oh caliber guns." What are those??? In context, I reckoned out it was talking about the armament of the P-51 Mustang, armed with six 50-caliber machine guns in the wings. In a mindless monotone it made no sense.
So thank you for the subtitles instead of CG.

Does Jets do the post flight engine inspection now? I know I’ve been out a while but the post flight and safe for maintenance was always on the crew chiefs. Well, weapons did help me do safe for maintenance once because I refused to let them on my aircraft until it was complete, and a few pointy heads helped when there was special flights with higher than the base commanders rank aboard. As soon as they left the aircraft those same specialists disappeared leaving tasks unfinished that had to be done over. I did work an air show once that those guys stepped up and earned a few drinks from us those nights. When we moved away from Abilene I had trouble sleeping for a few months. We lived a few miles from base but could still hear every weekend duty engine run until we left the area. Hearing those engines drone in the video was nice to hear again…as sad as that might be.

My dad was stationed at Dyess also , he retired from there in 1973. During an air show on base we were able to get up close to the B1's there. That is still a very fearsome and futuristic-looking aircraft, even today. It sounds like it is maintenance intensive, which I'm guessing is one reason why the USAF wants to retire the B-1, but otherwise I'm honestly not sure why they wouldn't retire the B-52 and keep the B-1 as the standoff missile truck.

It makes perfect sense. [0] The B-1 was designed to fly between 8,000-10,000 hours, or about 30 years, depending on the rate of usage, but the heavily abused & misused fleet is 35 years old & those old bones are creaking! Stress cracks & wear on absolutely everything. [1] maintenance requires many hands - this is a huge heavy beast, thus one hour of real time maintenance requires perhaps 12 "man hours" of maintenance. [2] These are critical sharp end aircraft with around 60% of them ready to go within hours [takes a long time to prep for a mission] - the remaining 40% are in a rolling program of upgrades, replacement of fatigued components & testing [3] Every fault on one aircraft is analysed & then all other aircraft might need attention in various ways [4] Some upgrade/repairs/replacements are major events such as longeron replacement means taking the thing apart back at Boeing & this has to fitted in to a calendar where they ALL get that replacement - 10,000 hours minimum per aircraft [5] QUOTE: The B-1 has been used hard, and not in the way intended. Former Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein explained in September 2019 that the B-1 was used in Afghanistan and Iraq as a high-speed close air support platform, loitering for long periods at high altitudes with its swing wings swept forward, until getting a call to dash to support troops needing air support. However, the aircraft was designed as a strategic penetrator, flying low and fast, with wings swept back. Flying with the wings extended for long periods, while carrying heavy loads, put years of heavy extra stress on the swing mechanism and attach points. “Now we’re having to pay the piper,” Goldfein said.

At no point were any of the ground crew or cabin crew "hypnotized" by the take-off of this aircraft. Calling the take-off of this aircraft "hypnotic" is misleading in the extreme. It is just another aircraft taking off properly and correctly from just another airstrip. At no time was anyone in any danger of being "hypnotized" by the event.
