If you're English, you want your team to do well. If you're Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish you want your team to do well above anyone else. Where it gets perverse is when Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish pride manifests itself in their glee at England's downfall, lamely excused by this "English arrogance" narrative. BS.
The reason is that they're almost always out before the tournaments have even started, or have even started for real (AK the KO phase). As football fans, they've got to get their kicks another way. It's quite pathetic really.

On many occasions, a manager was relieved of their duties after falling short of what was expected, and media were instrumental in making their position untenable. So other countries' media and pundits do the very same thing. It's natural and understandable.

The thing that puts me off England winning is the English media.
It would be fine, even happy for England to win, but we uniquely share a media, unlike most countries. We have to hear about England before nearly every game in a tournament, even when they aren't playing. "Oh, France vs Germany is coming up, but we are going to talk for twenty minutes about England players playing darts".
And to make matters worse we have to hear about 1966 like it was yesterday, the media would be even worse if you won another. You guys are bad winners.

At the last World Cup, Wales started well with a draw against the US but lost to Iran and then England.
When I was still a kid and pretty naive, I just assumed we'd have each others' backs during tournaments. When England were dumped out of Euro '96 and saw Scottish fans celebrating like they'd won the thing, I quickly modified my attitude. I don't wish the other Home Nations ill-will in sport, but I really couldn't care less how they fare either.
They might take points off of Austria. Being a Netherlands supporter, and believing they're a better team, I can't see them even holding them off for a draw.

As a wales fan...when it come to football I also support England as I also support arsenal and follow the Premier league. Alot of the players that I rate ect play for England so I think it would be hypocritical of me to then hate the England football team.

The only empathy I have with the first caller is the lack of inclusivity from media come game time. It’s the same thing here in Los Angeles for anyone who is Latino but not Mexican. Every pre-match, during-the-match, & post-match shows only talk about Mexico & never the other Latino national team they are up against. The bias commentary during the games & analysis after the game is irritating.
But I’ll never tune in to hear it in English from American shows/commentators because they lack all the passion, knowledge & common sense hahaha so it’s just picking my own poison.

It's bizarre. I'm English and think I share the same views as most English. When it comes to the other home nations, i'm fairly indifferent. I don't wish for any of them to do badly, I just don't have that much interest in their results. The view on their fans is (and well beyond just the home nations) is that they really wish the worst for England and yet classic Welshman "Mohammed" has the audacity to call us arrogant? Yeah, last time we won anything was 1966.. when was the last time Wales/Scotland/Northern Ireland/Republic won anything?
One thing I would tell you for sure if it was a home nation in a major final I'd be watching and hoping they'd win.... but not before that, not bothered.
