Absolutely, tackling those roadblocks is key to leveling up your groove game! 🎸 Embrace the challenge, break it down, and remember, every pro was once a beginner. Keep grooving and evolving - you've got this! 🕺🔥
Hi Scott, probably a silly question here, but there it goes anyway: the C major scale (or for that matter any scale , even the chromatic) looks Ok for the 3-step and 4-step progressions, but "too short" e.g. after the 4-step progression (C-D-E-F, G-A-B-C). So, I'm extending progressions by patterns (for example, for the 3-step progression that would be: C-D-E - D-E-F - E-F-G, etc., for the 4-step progression that would be C-D-E-F, D-E-F-G, etc. and so on until the 7-step progression). Since the target here is the plucking hand, is this OK? Or is it a completely different thing? Best, Jose
My approach to building technique when I feel stagnant is to find songs that push me in some way transcribe and learn them ultimately at tempo. This has yet to fail me.
That's a fantastic approach! Challenging songs keep the journey exciting and your technique evolving. Nothing beats learning through the music you love. 🎶🎸
I feel like I’m both type 1 and type 2. I like to approach things naturally to get something under my belt for a while and then from there I like to hone and fine tune certain things Im able to identify using a systematic approach to technique and theory
Hello Scott. What about the classical position for guitars, on the left leg(right handers) or right leg (left handers)? Isn't it the same position as when you stand up? I do practice in that way. When i stand up it feels more like when i practice sit down.
for the 7 note dynamic practice I was thinking "ChilliDogAndBurgerBun" that's 7 syllables, well it would work for me anyway. LOL. Something you mentioned in the beginning was praticing and I never set days aside for practice, I normally pick the bass up every so often and just mess around, I'm working on slap bass at the moment and the double thumbing on the different strings has got me so frustrated that i'll just stick on some TH-cam music videos and practice like that. I know I'm holding myself back though. Any advice?
I am definitely type 2 and will also bookmark this to keep revisiting, Scott thanks for this also gary willis fan, looking to purchase his signature bass once got the finance.
He's talked about using a drum throne before now - I can't tell if he's using one here. You can get them with or without a backrest and they're height-adjustable (or should be). Try before you buy, ideally 😊
This is very helpful but I do have an observation to make and please this is not a criticism. Your views on technique come from someone who does a lot of quiet jazzy type gigs and not big loud rock metal gigs, right? So do you think your views on technique might change if you were doing more rock/metal type gigs where the volume is way louder than what you are used too? Is, say, one technique applicable across genres? I ask because I once used a jazz type player, who did tons of quiet, laid back pub gigs, as a dep on a metal gig and he was hopelessly out of his depth despite being a monster player. He later remarked the volume, intensity and energy of the gig had taken him way out of his comfort zone and he'd had to try to alter his technique accordingly in real time while playing the gig and didn't do a very good job of it. I've done both and can say string muting for instance is a whole other animal at high volume.
So many techniques and skills... I love learning them but sheesh... how do I incorporate anything into contemporary Christian music😂. Any advice anyone? Genre is easy to play but really hard to spice up especially since it's super structured musically.
I signed up January 21st and 499.00 came out of my account that day, evidently i don't get a free trial or anything else, please let me know whether i am in or out, or send my money back please.
Looking at my technique. I'd say it's total RUBBISH!. None the less. I still found away to get past road blocks due to crap technique. It's cool to hear how it could be easier just listening and watching these videos. Thanks Scott.
Hey there! 🎸 We've all been there - turning roadblocks into stepping stones. Kudos for pushing through! Keep soaking up those techniques and remember, progress is all about the journey. Rock on! 🤘🔥
Awesome video, this is going onto bookmark for easy access. Cheers Scott.
Nice one Bob!
Whenever I feel like challenging myself I try to learn a song by ear. It will do wonders for your tone as well.
Yes dude! A great skill to master! 🙌🏻🧡🔥

Fundamental video. I'm definitely hitting roadblocks, especially when playing fast 16th funky basslines (Jaco, Vulfpeck... style)

what kind of chair/seat are you using, I'm trying to find something comfortable that supports my back and doesn't obstruct my arms/shoulders
I have also been searching...any thoughts??

Not very 'living room furniture' aesthetic but I can see the benefits otherwise :)
Only watching this now.... 7 syllable word for rhythm I use is Gina Lollobridgida.... her surname can be used for 5s
