Something missed by most reactors is the beautiful moves of Asami during the acoustic part.
    They are so expressive.
Her classical ballet training really shines through.
    A wonderful all round spectacle.

It's not for nothing that Steve Harris and Rob Halford came to meet the members of "Lovebites" we have photos that testify to that. Lovebites is already legendary for its musical quality, legends meet legends....

This ranks right up there as a masterpiece and years from now it will be looked back on with reverence.
They are heavily influenced by IM and indeed they would love to be considered as a band that compares to them.

Nice reaction, thank you. This song is a musical Masterclass. I love that acoustic interlude (note it was a concert grand piano on stage, Miyako plays the electric Roland version on her Chopin intro piece (with Swansong), but prefers the tone of the real thing). Topped off by Asami showing off her years of ballet training, how many bands can combine all those elements?
Another masterpiece worth checking out is Today is the Day (the live 2021 version from Heavy Metal Never Dies). Often overlooked, this one showcases many of their amazing talents, including Haruna's drumstick twirls, and Asami does a stint on piano (they can all play instruments!). Here's a link:
    th-cam.com/video/HfTXuVoLeko/w-d-xo.html
And also the live studio version of Burden of Time, you'll love Miyako's little party trick. 😉
Just a couple to add to your growing Lovebites list, cheers.

I couldn't agree more about Iron Maiden. In fact, Lovebites has said that two of their biggest influences are Iron Maiden and Metallica. So yes, they would take it as a compliment to be compared to Iron Maiden. I don't know if you're aware of it, but Miyako (the dark haired guitarist) is also a concert level pianist. She started at piano when she was 3 years old. Her plan was to be a concert pianist. When she was 18, she started learning guitar from books. She's completely self-taught at guitar. She has also taught herself to play some bass and some drums. She writes most of their music now, and she says learning the other instruments helps her to write. If you want to see just how good she is on piano, watch "Swan Song" with the Chopin intro. Peace!

@@ProjectEllsworthReacts To add what was said by Ralph Boyer, one of the first (if not the first) books that Miyako found was about playing guitar in the metal genre. The rest, as they say, is history. Midori drifted to metal because she wanted to play in the hardest musical genre there is for a guitar player. Although neither are metalheads on the level of Miho, both seem to be doing just fine.
I want to add to the recommendations for Swan Song (with Chopin intro). Miyako has written a lot of great songs for Lovebites, but this is arguably her best. I am not one for hyperbole, but Swan Song is in masterpiece territory.

LOVEBITES - A Frozen Serenade lyrics:
Crystal tears Falling from the skies
    Veiling fears The emptiness inside
    Time is just passing by
Killing me under the soft twilight
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
    One life ends
    And one life begins
    Evanesce
    To our origins
When I'm lost on my way
Lead my heart and guide me with your grace
    A frozen melody
Of doves and ravens dancing in melancholy
    A distant memory
If only this snow could erase the pain
I'd wake up in a serenade
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
Seasons may pass, but its beauty will never fade away
All living things are precious and irreplaceable
Just like a dream, just like a bird
    I'll keep on singing out
Even if my voice cannot reach you
White butterflies are fluttering under the silver sky
If only I could wish to see you once more

"The lighting makes this feel frozen, very cool." I hear what you did there. 😀 For the second time on one of your reactions I will use the same phrase: Everything you said. Miho, the bass player is a big fan of Steve Harris and has met him. I believe for many people it is not so much comparing bands that upsets them but more when someone states that X band is better than Y band. I do not read all the comments posted to your reactions, so you may know that is not accurate with respect to the comments you read.

Asami does remind me a a bit of Bruce Bruce. That is because there are a lot of rapid fire lyrics and she also has great range. Iron Maiden is an influence on every band that came after them, as well as Priest. No Priest, no Maiden, No Maiden, no Metallica . . . . on and on and on.
Asami's lyrics on this song are extra poetic. She is a better lyricist than most people.
Midori's solo in this reminds me of classic rock solos from the 1970's the way she did the hammers and pulls then the slow bends with the pick harmonics. The acoustic did sound like Spanish guitar.
Miyako's piano part was so beautiful. That's right. You don't see this every day. A woman carrying, sitting with a guitar in her lap playing the piano.
This song just seemed like it was a winter snow fall when I heard it on the record. Seeing it played on stage this way was a real treat.
Miho is such a huge Steve Harris fan girl and he's a huge influence on her.
Haruna always hits everything just perfect to keep time but she also is great at helping set the mood with her cymbals. Then she tells the band it's time to play in the tempo of Haruna. She's not only adorable, but massively talented.
    Lovebites never ceases to amaze.

This song was composed by Asami (vocals) with the cooperation of Mao (LIGHT BRINGER will be suspended indefinitely in 2014) who was a keyboard player and composer of LIGHT BRINGER. There is nothing dissident or destructive there, only the emotions of an adult woman. I think it's a masterpiece that can never be made by a metal band that has existed until now.

People need to get over their problem with bands getting compared to others. There is no current band in existence that is not hugely influenced by music from the past. Hell, the whole genre of metal is basically just classic music like Beethoven or Bach with modern instruments. And yes, the girls themselves would be the first to be happy to get compared to Iron Maiden, especially since they are huge fans and have stated themselves that Maiden has been a big influence.

Lovebites take next level to the next but one level. Iron Maiden is the prime inspiration behind this band. It was formed by the now ex member Miho who is a huge Steve Harris fan. Check out “The Crusade” which is a homage to “Aces High”. I happen to believe that there is nobody (including Maiden themselves) who are performing at this level of technical proficiency, vocal ability and consistency in output and delivery. I only include Maiden not because I think Lovebites are better (I love Maiden, I saw them with Paul DiAnno) but because Lovebites are much younger. I adore these ladies. Best thing to happen to metal since Priest, Sabbath and Maiden.

Great reaction to a great song. I totally agree with you about comparing one band to another and that Lovebites wold be honored to be compared to Iron Maiden. After all Steve Harris is Miho's favorite bassist and a number of other reactors have compared to Bruce in several other songs. It looks like you have reacted to the main metal bands including Nemophila and Band-Maid but I didn't see anything for a male band that has been around since about 1990. Ningen Isu is referred to as the Japanese Black Sabbath and the first song I heard from then is Heartless Scat th-cam.com/video/CbI79e5iZKs/w-d-xo.html. I requested this so thank you for reacting! It doesn't get any better than this, until the next Lovebites Song! Pretty cool when a heavy metal band can drop acoustic and piano mid-song...not many capable of that. These ladies are talented AF and I listen to them EVERYDAY. Never gets old! 🐺🦊
You may be ready for what I believe to be their homerun song. This is the song that when it ends you say "Did they just do that" It's the quickest 8min song as it sucks you in from the beginning. The song is Swan song with Chopin intro th-cam.com/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/w-d-xo.html what clearly separates them from the rest of the pack IMHO. No one comes close to doing this in metal today.
Realized you have not reacted to many of their face melters. A few suggestions.
Set the world on fire live th-cam.com/video/99zsH6iG_6c/w-d-xo.html slayer / testament thrash vibes, typically reacted to after holy war and before break the wall, which you've done both so this will complete the trifecta
Thunder vengeance live th-cam.com/video/yWE7PqCpGi4/w-d-xo.html old school metallica vibes, show opener w/big buildup and when the curtain drops...oh man, that 1st 15seconds, that is how you start a show!
Winds of Transylvania live th-cam.com/video/gzxReWzHIuA/w-d-xo.html the MV version is the opening for an anime show and the question everyone asked "could they do this live", hell yeah they can. 5mins of intense shredding / squeals.
M.D.O. live th-cam.com/video/RzyIFE-eRH8/w-d-xo.html just a classic metal song w/old metallica vibes
This list goes on and on but I won't overwhelm you. 🙂

They have actually said in several interviews that their main influences in metal. Has been from brittish and european metal bands.
And especially like Maiden, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Accept, Motörhead and the thoose bands.
Along other bands and genres offcourse from Japan and even US. But mainly The brittish bands especially at the beginning for them.
Thats also why they cant be said only being a Powermetal band. They have songs thats more Trash metal. And songs that leans more to plain metal or even older hardrock.
Sometimes they have some uns of symphonic metal but not as much. Like in the background of "Judgement day" for an example. Or in Myakos background layerings or her piano adds to the music.
So to summon, just as you say noone should just categorize them as a powermetal band.
Even if that and trash is much of their foundation.
But certainly one of our current times best metal bands in my point of view.
Especially when you think in composing and technicaly and that every single one of them is a master of their instruments.
I dont know many bands thats sound so great live either. Maybe Nighwish and Epica maybe...Only heard Nighwish but their live sound and mixing sound is phenomenal. Someone said they have the same engineer as Nighwish.
( Someone correct me if I am wrong..)
Just a final fun say from another reactor.
They sound like Metallica, but with higher skill...:)
(A totally another song that you may come to, so I will not spoil which song ... )
    Amazing band ...period...

She has an amazing voice, but she doesn't sound like Bruce Dickenson. AND, no woman would want to or need to (it would be strange). Comparing her to Bruce Dickenson is impossible. Male and female voices that sound nothing alike at all. Furthermore, she gracefully and slowly walks around while she's performing, dressed like she's going to a wedding. Bruce is like a ping pong ball, running and jumping all over the place, often wearing ripped up clothing. They are literally nothing alike. Stage presence? Sure, they both command the stage. So, I respectfully agree to disagree.
I will definitely be getting to the new Nemophila and the new The Warning.

Lovebites is also very heavily influenced by Helloween witch they use a similar formula with 2 lead guitars and extremely good bass work and they've been around since the mid 80s as well and Lovebites even does a cover of Eagle Fly Free by Helloween. Also since the reunion of Hansen and Kiske in 2017 to Helloween they now have 3 Lead guitarist and 3 vocalists. I highly recommend checking out Helloween

  • @ralphboyer2538
    @ralphboyer2538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, I don't get why people get upset when you recognize an influence by another band in their music either. Every band that has ever existed has been influenced by someone else. This has been going on for hundreds of years. Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" that everyone knows and loves used a motif that Mozart used in the death scene of "Don Giovanni." He even mentions "Don Giovanni" in his original manuscript of "Moonlight Sonata." All he did was change a couple of notes so he wasn't directly copying Mozart. If being influenced by someone else was good enough and acceptable to Beethoven, it should be good enough for modern bands. Anyone who says that a band was not influenced by someone else (a) doesn't understand music, and (b) hasn't listened to very much music of different styles. Being influenced by someone is not the same as copying someone. Led Zeppelin had a habit of copying things from early blues music. In fact, they've lost several court battles over it and have had to pay a lot of money to the original artists. While copying is a no-no, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being influenced by someone.

    • @ProjectEllsworthReacts
      @ProjectEllsworthReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I heard some of the Zeppelin copying stuff on TH-cam. It's pretty unbelievable. Every band and every person on earth is influenced by someone before them. That's simply how life works. The issue is 100% never the bands complaining that they've been influenced, it's the FANS of the bands. It's quite ridiculous and definitely nonsense. Be well, Ralph; always great to hear from ya'.

Just grate review of yours. Yes, we all Wolfpack know Iron Maiden is one of the main roots of Lovebites. I think you have reacted their The Crusade th-cam.com/video/0guewPdnrKQ/w-d-xo.html. If you haven't, this is a tribute to Aces High and Miho is a great fan of Steve Harris.
I think Wolfpack don't hate pauses in your reaction as long as you give relevant and good comments meanwhile, and you are doing great job. We hate pauses just for saying "Oh, my good".
I totally agree with your opinion that the bass and drums are driving the band. This band is very ensemble oriented like an orchestra, it's not a style of everybody shines playing solo workshop style, but you still can tell the highest musicianship of Miho and Haruna. Soloists (the singer and the guitars) and rhythm section strictly perform each own role and produce one great sound as ensemble like an orchestra.

Thanks for getting to this one. There are very few true masterpieces in rock. “A Day in the Life” by the Beatles; “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin; “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes; “Starless” by King Crimson; “Ghost Love Score”, by Nightwish. Maybe a dozen more, at most. What they have in common is masterful writing, jedi-level musicianship and production, and, most important to separating them from merely great songs, the exploration of multiple musical ideas. Many of them happen to follow the “Bolero” model for development of a song, using these musical ideas to take the listener through multiple emotions until cresting and resolving, like a huge wave crashing ashore. Some big rock groups made their name on one masterpiece (most never had even one). "Frozen Serenade" clearly has it all, and belongs on that list. Lovebites, in five short years, gave us at least five; I put this and “Swan Song” at the top of the heap.

No problem with the comparisons. Lovebites openly celebrate their influences--Sabbath, Purple, Maiden, Priest, Metallica--like all great artists, they borrow from anyone they think has something to add, and then they mix it all up to create something fresh and new. Personally, I like their songwriting more than that of all those other groups, which for me is what sets them apart.

More metal bands you want? Okay, pardner, I’m gonna give you one but with a twist. They’re called Destrose, another all female Japanese band. But this one comes with a challenge. I challenge you to guess which two members went on to become members of Lovebites. Don’t cheat and Google the answer and please don’t anyone else give it away in the comments section. Let’s see if he can spot them by their playing. Here’s the link and give us your reaction to Destrose th-cam.com/video/AgNE7Ok7w4o/w-d-xo.html

I would go as far as to say that MOST musicians don't read music. MOST of them are pretty self taught. Very odd, but very true.

Back again....just picking up on something you asked, about "bands from other countries ". Here's one for you, which seems to have slipped under the radar on the reaction channels, you might score a first!
Imperial Age are a symphonic metal band from..... Russia. And before anyone yells Boycott, here's a post from the band:
"We are completely against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We have been, are and will be publicly protesting against it. We left Russia as soon as the war began.
We stand with all those whose innocent lives are being ruined."
The timing couldn't have been worse for them. Largely self or crowd funded, with no major record label behind them, they were embarking on a European & UK tour when the war started.
Here's some samples of their work. Their latest MV release, plus The Monestary", from an online streamed concert during Covid lockdowns. Russians love to sing, and they have not one, but three superb vocalists! Links follows.
