I remember when this album came out at the beginning of my senior year of high school and seeing the tour rite before graduation with Bad English opening. Such great memories.
I love seeing Steve via in these settings! He’s such a master mind and over thinker (meant in a good way) it’s nice for him to take a back seat and be a part of a team playing the parts that Adrian wrote
I completely forgot that Adrian Vandenberg had a signature model Peavey guitar. Seeing this all these years later, I just had a flashback of playing on one of those at a local music store when I was a kid, and thinking what a great sounding guitar it was. It's so awesome for me when something that I randomly came across (this video) unexpectedly sparks such a small but great memory of a moment in time that would've otherwise probably never resurfaced in my head again. Great memories are a very rare commodity for me. Much thanks for posting this video!
Adrian is recording as we speak guitars on all the songs like the way he should've done it. Would be fascinating to hear how the songs were supposed to sound, please come soon 30th anniversary!
@@edgaracr88 he mentioned the offer David did him in celebration of the 30th anniversary in the Dutch documentary about his Whitesnake time (wich is mentioned on whitensnake.com frontpage). Can't f'kin wait to hear this stuff!
@@MikeeeeG i looked at the track list, and it seems we won't get those adrian rearrangements. I only hope we get this instrumental of "deeper the love".
wow!!! I love that whole idea of you guys listening to your takes on that truck stereo system to get a feel for what we "regular" ;-) folks would be hearing man!!!! so cool!!!!
I also do that to this day. The studios can give you a false sense of how much Bass comes across in a mix. So after a mixdown i’ll stream what I have to my car stereo and adjust from there.
The term used by many in the industry is "grot boxes", e.g. using a pair of cheap small speakers to test on and get an idea of how the mix will perform on the average home stereo etc. Also playing back in mono is a standard test, which is very effective. These days modern software simulation plugins are in use, which are real time savers.
Their best album in my opinion, songwriting skills at best... I didn't know Coverdale could play nice guitar solos, that was far from the generic blues scale soloing
i love Vai but have to agree with your statement. 1987 holds up much better, even though I used to play Slip several times a day for years... Oh well...
Sorry but Val saved that album I thought vandburgh broke his wrist could play the guitar they asked via to step in and do all of the guitar parts.not easy job people.
How would I best describe David Coverdale's voice even when he's just talking? Just hearing him turns blood into wine. That's also how he described in an interview how Tawny Kitaen when he first met her.
Timur Shaitanov there is 7 string use all over that album. Vai recorded all the guitars. listen to donington and hear Vandenberg's style then listen to SOTT. its all Vai. I have the music book for SOTT and it specifically states 7 string usage. I have been playing guitar since 1985. I know 7 string.
The record company hated the demos and hated Vandenberg’s playing so they insisted on Vai coming in. Vai didn’t want to play with another guitarist on the album. Hence the hand injury was made up.
@@sveneriksson7319 Steve is talking about practicing for the live tour, and having Adrian double his (Steve's) guitar parts when they go to play the tour.
@@EgoShredder That first Blue Murder album is just pure magic. Only great players in the band playing great songs. It’s my favorite album and I have it on vinyl.
So why did Vai get all the guitar credits on this album while they say Vandenberg had an injury and couldn’t play? Seems Adrian is fine playing and Vai is nowhere to be found. They say it was Vai’s ego that was the reason.
Vandenberg didn’t bring enough heat in his playing to follow Sykes. Record company wasn’t happy with demos. Hence Vai coming in and playing all the guitars on the album. The hand injury is a red herring. It never happened. It’s how they explained Vai coming in and playing all the guitars on songs he didn’t write. Vandenberg wrote them
The deeper the love demo by Adrian is way diff than what vai did on the record. Is much better in my opinion. Dont really like the keyboards over dub in the record
Interesting. It had some good songs, but overall I rarely play Slip of the Tongue. And why did they have to re-record Fool for Your Lovin'? Pointless to me.
I agree with you Lakota1067... The original is far better... It needs that blues feel to it... Even North Winds from DC's second solo album would not work... Man I love the North Winds album... Good on you me man... :-)...
Lakota1067 sounds like Kalodner might have encouraged it, especially after the success of Here I Go Again 87. I know Coverdale was adamantly against it being a single but was overruled
My God, these bought back such nice memories, no mobiles, no internet, just plain good ole music!!! Thank you for posting this...
Every band should video and film their album sessions! This is pure GOLD.
This album is a masterpiece. The song writing, the performance, the arrangements, the singing, the melodies and what Vai did bring.

Holy smokes David sounding like BB King on the guitar !
Definitely!
thought the same!

David plays damn good guitar!
He truly does!
I didn't know David could play guitar....where's the Vai recording footage?
Indeed, there was a solo album of his called "Into The Light" and he played some acoustics as well..🎸😁👍🤘
Sounds like paul kossof

Steve Vai and Adrian Van Den Berg 👌🏻. Steve is very cool in a band setting 😊
David's got a natural sense of humour.

I thought Vai was going to ruin this album and the WS "sound" but the album was bloody marvelous
