Video is for demonstration purposes only, this method works for all pineapple varieties I have tried, including yellow, Gold and white types.
This pineapple was sold as a Costa Rican Pink pineapple variety, which I consider a generic name without a trademark. This video does not advise gardeners to propagate patented fruit, but to show a new way to grow a pineapple if the crown has been cut off. I chose the Pink variety for this video because it shows better in the video.

I just found this video and I'm sure glad I did! A friend sent me the bottom off of a pink pineapple, and after a major "search & destroy mission", I found two seeds, which you don't usually find at the bottom of the fruit. Thing is, I don't know that I'll live long enough to see an actual plant, much less get a harvest growing from the seed (provided I can even get the little buggers to germinate to begin with). Please tell me - is the heating pad you're using one specifically for gardening, or will a standard run of the mill heating pad work??? Thank you for this information, you've restored my hope, and I appreciate you!!

This is a pretty good video, do you let the disk totally dry out before placing in moss or have you had success with using a fresh disk? Every time I have tried this mold grows between the disk and the moss. I make sure the moss is not saturated. I just got some pretty fresh ones with green leaves and was wondering if I left a couple green leaves if it might help with root production versus with no foliage. Also, how bright of light do you use and how close to the light do you leave it. Thanks for the video and looking forward to an update.

Edit: Also how long does it take for them to develop roots ? Should I plant them before they produce roots or after they produce roots

    • @TropicalGardenGuy

If the disk is healthy, it should pop roots in a couple days.
      They do love heat .
There are many different ways to sanitize the disk.
I use bleach 50/50 water, dip for about 10 seconds then rinse.
Be aware that many folks are finding that the pineapples are being stored in near freezing temps , this may affect the ability to get them growing.

Its hard to see at the planting stage. At the end of the video you can see the buds sprouting!

The reasoning for this is, is the company that grows them, is really stingy about who can grow them. Its actually ILLEGAL to grow, but ofc that law is not stopping anyone.

I used a generic unbranded pineapple in this demo , but the video is meant to show a method to grow any pineapple that the top has been cut off.
Its my understanding that you can propagate a branded pineapple with permission.
Always get permission is my advice

I thought it was only illegal to grow it for selling, but not illegal to grow for personal consumption.

The cut off the crown to stop customers from growing them since the pink pineapple has been trademarked

    • @TropicalGardenGuy

My pink pineapples came without a name or any other identifying mark. Dont think you can trade mark the label “ Pink Pineapple “ .
This said, the video is for demonstration purposes only. No one should break any laws.
Some growers cut tops off pineapples as you can pack more in a box.

@@TropicalGardenGuy thank you for replying! The label itself is not trademarked but the actual genetic variant that makes this pineapple pink is trademarked. That's what I read at least. It's the same for the cotton candy flavoured grapes.
