I would use a clear one and put a couple of dollars of your own cash in there show to show it's for tips. I always love watching your videos Jeffrey and going into your world. I feel like I'm really there!
Damn beautiful there. Always liked the idea of 2 competing Clear tip Jars. One says Beatles one says Rolling stones. Let them choose and announce winner at end of night. Or, Star Wars and Star trek, To be or Not to be, Ford/Chevy, Sasquatch or Big Foot, etc...etc... Change 'em out every week.
There’s actually a psychology to this. Elon Musk said in a recent interview that whenever you see a Coca-Cola vending machine, you see a Pepsi vending machine next to it. Because marketers learned years ago that if there’s only one vending machine, then consumer is deciding if they want to buy a soda. But suddenly, when you introduce choice, you take the first question out of it, so now the question is not am I going to buy a soda - it’s which soda am I going to buy? It’s brilliant actually. I don’t do a tip jar because I’m mostly a guest worship leader at churches in SoCal, but when I do, I’m gonna do the competing tip jars.
I've just got a clear oversized mason jar with a little seed money in it. I'm on a Facebook group and some of them show their "office for the evening" and have the Christmas lights and big old posters of themselves - way too much for me. The one thing I've noticed a lot of people do is have a Venmo QR code for people to tip, if they don't have cash. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Some people make it real big on their posters so the audience doesn't have to even get up to tip them. I throw down a copy business cards with my info on it next to my tip jar. That's about all the advertising I do. Love your stuff, brother! Blessings
I've got to do that after we move "Venmo" I think can help...although I haven't talk to anybody who I've seen use it... I liked to pick their brain and see how efficient it is... Thank you brother !!
Hey Jeffery, man, I love diving in your videos. I have a brotherhood feeling when I watch them. As far as the tip case, I have used a small 12"x18"x6" retro green 1960's suitcase for years that I got at Goodwill. It opens to a 90 degree angle and folks love tossing cash into it. I highly recommend. Thanks again, I pray abundant gigs come your way in the coming days Monte, Waco, TX
I use the guitar case (Busker 3-4 days/week) BUT I'd like to use a container because I WANT people to see me pressing the buttons with my foot so they can realize that the harmonies/drum beats I use aren't pre-recorded. The guitar case normally sits directly in front of the pedals so the "work" involved is not apparent. I've been using a BeatBuddy since they came out and harmonizers for 10+ years and regularly get people asking about the "pre-recorded drums and harmonies." ;) I've learned that the more "work" people think you are doing, the better the chances of a generous tip. Re copyrights....One bar that I have regularly gigged will occasionally advise, "Do your own songs tonight, no covers. There's an ASCAP rep in the audience..." ;)
Since my last post I've joined an established band. We are a power trio and have played a private party and a local festival. It's going really well! Keep on rockin! Awesome tip jar!
I'm still doing solo gigs too. My band made $100 in tips at the festival and my solo gig the next day I made six bucks. You never know what to expect. I always put a few dollars in the tip jar to prime the pump.
Hey Jeffery, we use a clear plastic beer picture, & we leave a $5 bill in it to help inspire those who do want to tip, & although these are tough times, at our steady gig at Yucatan, we do pretty good. Now, we are there every Saturday & Sunday, noon-3, & it feels real good to be back, Hurricane Ian did a LOT of damage, but people down here are just happy to be back! Great video & scenery, looks Beautiful, hope you gigs keep going well, thanks for inspiring, say 'hi' to Kim for us, Keep On Rocking Brother, Rock On & God Bless.
See-thru and primed with a crinkled $5 or $10 and a couple $1's. They'll see it primed, but not too much to think they don't need to. Lot's of people are using elaborate see-thru plexiglass with color led lights as well. All depends on what works for our thing really.
Keep em comin brother. Always good to watch and listen to ya. Been watchin/subscribed for quite some time now. Got myself a TCH Play Acoustic and a BeatBuddy cos of you! Always enjoy your videos. Best wishes from me and Ralph the Lurcher (sight hound) and Kevin the cat in Spain.
So in the summer I do a monthly gig at a farmers market where I live and the gig is strictly tip based. To address what you were saying I don’t think that the jar matters so much but the part that you are for sure right about is start off with a bit of money so people know to tip you. The second thing is if it does start to get to full take some of it out. In my experience what you said is so spot on about if it looks like you’re doing too good people won’t tip.
@@thesologigginglife6566 can I also say that the Bigfoot and peace sign jar is really cool. I may be in the minority but that makes me want to tip more than a generic clear one.
I play in Edinburgh regularly and we get tourists from the US and Europe. Tips aren’t a big thing over here but it’s usually tourists that give them. That said I’ve had a few that were so hammered they gave me 20 US dollars or as I had last week, 20 Euros. Not a lot of use in Scotland but it’s the thought that counts. 😂
Do the clear tip buckets create any fear of someone running off with it? I had a kid at a farmers market gig do a few double take views at the growing cash in my clear tip jar, and, well, just a thought.
I use a square gallon ice cream container. Put some real tiny battery operated twinkling lights at the bottom. Then write GAS MONEY on the sides. Leave the plastic handle on for a quick get away...😂
I use a clear plastic octagonal cookie jar with a hole cut in the lid and my business card and social qr codes as well as my Venmo QR code taped to it. It also says TIPS!🙂 with a smiley face and the word Thanx! written o it. I usually seed it with some ones and fives--sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have thought that when people see other people tipping it gives them the incentive to tip also. I may be wrong, but it seems like it. Oh, for outdoor gigs, I also have a decorative rock velcroed to the botton on the inside so it won't blow away!
You got it dialed my brother.... If it ain't broke, don't fix anything.. very cool... I don't know if this subject of Tip jars make any difference... who knows... out of all of this... I think just making your tip jar stand out is probably the most important... Rock on my brother and thank you !!
@@thesologigginglife6566 Yeah it is nice, I've gotten some fat $25 and $20 tips from people who were cashless before! Although, I think I need to make something a little bit bigger with the code on it so people can readily see it and be "encouraged" to use it. Right now, I just have a few small qr codes about the size of a stamp taped onto the jar and I find that the majority of tips I get are still cash. I'm thinking about getting a logo made and maybe I'll make a banner with my name, logo, and qr codes on display.

Great video Jeffrey. No tip jars in the UK. But still good to see how it works where you are. Keep rocking man. 🎸👍🎤

Unfortunately we don’t do tips in Scotland. Unless of course we’re playing to folks from the USA. The owners of some venues don’t like it though.
Yes.. I've heard about that.. I should of mentioned that in the vlog... interesting..

Exactly... it's all about the love of live music

Yes.. unfortunately... LOL

In 2024 the QR codes are definitely a must have . Not many people carry cash anymore…but they do have their phone with them!
