- No competition, no problem. Dane locks down another SURFER Poll award. The more he turns away from pro surfing, the tighter his hold on the surf world's heart grows. Oh yeah, and Slow Dance, his directorial debut, landed a Movie of the Year nomination.

Wow…. "Quicksilver, thank you for sparing me during the massacre this year."
Well said and for having the balls to say it, although, one of the most awkward speeches ever with the mentally unstable laugh.. hahha.
Haha nah man his laughs all good
What a character. Good on him.
Either he wasn't drunk this year or he got more comfortable being up stage.

Dane...not taj!
what's the massacre he was talking about?
Quiksilver dropped the majority of their surf team.
mvulch
And a majority of their employees in the US. What happens when shareholders control a brand.... sad and pathetic but look at Volcom. Most people have no idea though... or care.
lazerz4eyez What's the situation with Volcom?
lazerz4eyez Shareholders always control a company-brand. That is not the reason.
Nik Rou If it's a public company, yes, then there are shareholders, but not all brands are public, are they. And in this case it is exactly what Dane is talking about b/c they cut half the team and most employees in the US a week or so before his gave this speech.
Volcom didn't use to be public, but then Woolcott went public and Kering eventually took it over. When they did that, they fired all the people that had been there the longest, the people who made the most, all for the bottom line. Remember, it's all about 10% growth every quarter, lol. Shareholders don't care about families or employees or brand integrity, they only care about the green. These people were the essence of Volcom, but corporations don't care about that. Don't make me laugh Nik, I know quite a few of the people that worked at both these companies.
