May the Rain Inspire your Art | Nature Photography

- Another one of those days when we least expect to get anything worthwhile from our photography. Rain is never easy but rather than let the rain bother me too unduly, I let the rain inspire the situation to make at least one image to be worthy of being considered art.

Simon you can take as many woodland floor images as you want as I am never tired of seeing your choice of composition, always great.
Thank goodness Robert. I can't seem to stop seeing them!
I was thinking exactly the same - it has inspired me to start doing so myself, something I had never considered before!
"I've been watching this muddy puddle for a few minutes", what a lovely line. My wife walked past just at that moment, and collapsed with laughter. She just doesn't understand us Simon. Once again, a truly inspiring video. Thank you.
I know what you mean Steve, they just don't understand. These types of images really appeal to me, so Simon's exceptional images are a real inspiration. Best regards Robin
I don't mind where or how I get the inspiration, as long as it keeps coming. I hope you put her Straight Steve 👍
The image of the sycamore seed is just out of this world. It reminds me of mating dragon-flys. So beautifully done!
Thank you indeed.
Perseverance is rewarded. You prove that, Simon. As you acknowledged with reference to seeing what some may not see, "more often than not they're so easy to walk past." Thank you over and over again for sharing these gems.
Thank you again and again Lynne for keeping watching. It's appreciated.
You are an exceptional talented photographer in a genre which you are king . The detail and knowledge you impart and the joy you bring to us every time you upload is immeasurable. I like everyone else cannot wait for your next outing .
Wow, that's quite a lovely compliment, thank you.
Once again making me think about my own photography. Wont shy away from the local woods when it is raining anymore!
It's not easy juggling all the gear but it can be well worth it.
Nicely done my friend. You’re sharing a much deeper love for nature that resonates and inspires many. 🌎
Thanks Dave. Nice of you to say.
3 Stunning pictures, worth the chilly and rainy weather !!!
As always, Simon, you have produced some magic from a very wet morning. The germinating sycamore shoot is a brilliant capture. Very well spotted and photographed indeed.
Thanks David
What a find!!! I used to call the helicopters. The colours are fantastic . The 3rd image is a beauty. I think you're right the highlights from the sky add too the image causing nice separation
Cheers Sean. Not a bad little collection given the conditions.
What you do on TH-cam is truly unique, insightful, and worth watching over and over again. Wish you could post films more often.
Thanks so much Scott. I wish I had more time to do so but work does get in the way of all that.
Gob smacked Simon. Never in a month of Sunday's would I be out in that weather never mind find such beautiful compositions. The first one is a find and a half - nature is a wonderful provider. Strangely for me I love them all! Continue being a true inspiration Simon as you bring so much knowledge and pleasure to us all. thank you
I will certainly do my very best Jill. Thank you again.
I definitly join the others who say that it dosn’t matter in what direction you point you’re camera. Just keep on amaze us with you’re sublime photo’s. Thanks.
Thank you so much
The first image looks like a dragonfly. Very cool! Amazing what you can find on the forest floor.
Thanks Karen. That never occurred to me at the time.
Three diverse and stunning images. There are so many scenes that never become memorialized as images. Today that potential set has been reduced by three. 👌👏
Glad you enjoyed it Michael. Thanks for the compliment.
The 1st image is my favourite
When it finally decides to rain here I'm going in hunt of a muddy puddle! Beautiful image.
Go for it Jane
The sycamore seed photo is exquisite!
Nothing like a good walk in the rain, Butt with a camera and your exceptional talent ? never dull ! Brilliant images as usual and thanks again for sharing.
Thanks so much Alwyn
I remember it was a terrible day, but the images you got are really amazing ❤️
😍Ta mother, you got two likes to your comment x
Well Simon you've done it again. Three lovely images, all different and shows how the more you look the more you find.
Absolutely Annette
Another amazing trio of images, yet again extraordinary pictures from seemingly mundane subjects. The sycamore seedling looks like an insect yet to be discovered !
I thought so too on the sycamore seedling
Another inspiring film and beautiful images. Thank you!
Thank you too!
I wonder if I can find some fresh Spring growth, too.
A photography legend.. learnt so much from you over the past few years.
Cheers Liam. Glad I have helped in some way.
Beautiful images that most photographers would walk past..
Many thanks
Great video Simon. Three class images but that first one is out there on its own, nature at its finest.
Thank you.
The first and the second photo are amazing. Very beautyful.
Thanks Wim
Wonderful shot if that sycamore seed germinating....thats so amazing...that shot alone makes it worth the effort. Your videos continue to inspire....to explore the local woodlands further in all weather conditions. I have taken some memorable macro shots after the rain in local woodlands and parks....some of my best photos captured after or during the rain...its so transformative of the landscape...thanks for sharing on bank holiday friday.....happy holidays.
You are most welcome Wajid. Good to here of your successes in the adverse weather too.
You never stop surprising me on the subjects you chose buddy! Some beautifully crafted shots! Your gut is normally right
Cheers Tom
I guess it’s whatever grabs my eye. I never know from one day to the next what I will find next. It’s the hunt that keeps me excited about going out day after day.
Three wonderful images Simon, thanks so much for sharing. Best regards Robin
Thanks for watching again Robin
Those are all just perfect now arent they? Beautifully seen and captured.
Not bad for an oldy 😊
I like the last shot. Hard area to photograph for sure.
It is so impresive and inspiring to see you finding three nice images in that wet and rainy weather. 👍
Sometimes it's a case of having to Roger. It beats being indoors in front of the TV.
Three wonderful shots again Simon, it's a good lesson in patience and learning to look that bit harder.
TH-cam certainly makes me show up and work at it.
I really do enjoy your calm, relaxed approach to photography. Having just looked at the forecast for my area for the week ahead, it’s raining every day so my motivation is pretty low to get out. That is despite always forcing myself to get out by telling myself a poor day out photographing is better than a day in the office. I am pleased to say that your video has lifted my spirits a great deal.
Glad to hear it David. I was feeling the same about that particular day at first.
Superb shot of that seedling! And I thought puddles were only for swearing at when cleaning the mud off my boots! There will be more mud trails across the kitchen floor. The better half is going to be very upset with you. There will be a lot of expletives.
I never disregard a muddy puddle 😃
Glad the algorithm chose you for me. It's very much my type of photography in the details and abstract. Nicely done 👍
I am too Mark. The more the merrier for me of course.
Beautiful work, Simon. That first image looked very much like an insect. Loved the color and composition. All in all, a wonderful spring day out in the woods.
Cheers Shaun. Sorry again for the delay. Comments are something I always read but then try to find time later to reply to them. There lies the problem :-)
@@SimonBoothPhotography No worries Simon! My channel is tiny compared to yours. I don’t know if I’d be any better with finding time to respond. I alway appreciate when I do find a message from you, but I never expect one with the large, dedicated fan base you have. All the best and happy shooting!
Love 2nd image will certainly look out for opportunities like that
Simon, some cracking images there …. Probably my favourite is the first image, but I really do like the third image … you have a great eye to spot these!
Thanks Grant
now that is very beautiful, the first photo.
Nice work again Simon. Rodders 👍
Again a most enjoyable video...your first image looks like a dragonfly..... yesterday I was photographing tree's reflections in a canal 🙂📷
Nice one Brian.
Simon, as always, your work is a total inspiration! Thank you
Thanks again Jeff.
Fantastic images and inspiration again Simon, thank you.
Absolutely beautiful, artistic and fascinating images.
Thank you Val
I absolutely loved the last one 👏
Beautiful set of images. I love all three of them!
Stunning!
Exceptional, outstanding, absolutely spectacular!!!
Wow, thank you Laura.
Beautiful
Excellent work.. thank Simon
Great set of images!
Inspiring,thanks.
Really enjoyed this one. Thank you
Love these Simon. Thanks for the inspiration.
first image new growth WOW
Thanks Paul.
Thanks Simon, as always great images.
Hello Simon
Thank you for this peaceful morning and this time have a favorite image. It is the first one :-). It looks perfect in my eyes an d the colour compsition is great.
Wish you a happy easter weekend and greetings from lower Bavaria.
Thank you so much again.
I love how you take the simplest things in nature and create such beautiful pictures, you really do inspire me to start looking harder whilst out walking with them camera or my phone, thank you
The very best of luck Sigurd
Haven’t finished the film yet, but that first image is gorgeous. I’ve always hoped of snapping something like that. Cheers
I was very pleased with that find. Thanks Leigh
I always look forward to your videos, Simon. Great images!
Thanks David
Amazing!!! Thanks!!!
Hi Valdir and thank you
Nice photos.
All about being aware of what's around and beneath you ....where'as others wouldn't think twice of looking
So true Colin
Absolutely love your vision in finding images. Wonderful, Simon
Thank you
Really nice pictures in the rain. I like it. Well done. Greets Stefan
Greetings Stefan
Another absolute joy of a video to watch.
Thanks Ian
wonderful detail on the sycamore seed. I love them as a subject. this one has more of a hint of Alien about it!!
I'm used to shooting in the rain. Living in Swansea which has the title of the UK's wettest city I get plenty of practice!
You should run rain workshops and show us all how it's done. It's a nightmare 😃
There are images everywhere for you... utterly inspiring, love the rain droplet reflection shot...
Thank you
Great work as always Simon 👍
Thank you! Cheers Brian
Wonderful looks like a Damselfly
I thought the same too.
Lovely shots, Simon, especially like the Spinning Jenny. You really do teach us to look harder! Good to meet you in Morrisons a couple of weeks ago (morrisons Lady)
Hi Jayne
Thanks for saying hello and dropping a comment. See you in there again sometime soon 😊
What a beautiful find (the first image)! I would have been excited too! Wonderful photo too! Thank you for another episode!
Awe thanks Susanne.
Love the sycamore seed shot. Wish I had the patience to take something like that. :)
It's not as hard as you think really.
Inspiring as always Simon. Exceptional images once again. Your love and knowledge of your natural environment shines through in your photography. Just love it. And yes, I second Robert Appleyard's early comment, keep taking as many woodland floor images as you want. I can't get enough of them.
Many thanks Dane
Hi Simon, I really like the last picture: the subject is suprisingly interesting and I love the balance between warm colours and the cool tones of the reflected air in the water.
I felt it worked quite well too Wim
Your talent for finding interesting subjects always inspires me. As we move deeper into Autumn here in Australia I hope I can find some images in our forests. 🙏
Best of luck Laurel
Hi Simon, thanks for yet another great video. I love that puddle shot in B&W 👍
Thanks Peter. i like it even more now I've seen it a few times.
Simon, you are amazing! Love the tree reflection in the water photo. So inspiring to get out, plus I have plenty of rain to work with here in Oregon, lol. Thanks for another great video!
Cheers Dan
I just wish our precipitation would stop coming as white fluffy stuff here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada... It is well into April and we would love some showers 🙂 love the seed reveal, reminds me of our dragonflies... "When conditions are against yeah" or when the conditions are ideal for... take up the opportunity 😊 life gives you lemons, make lemonade 😂 or leaf litter/mulch😊 Thanks you for sharing your passion for photography 🙂
Thanks Dave and I will pray this evening that you get our rain soon.
we finally went above freezing for the first time in months@@SimonBoothPhotography ... the sun is shinning and the snow is melting, albeit about 3-4 weeks too late... spring 'might' be in the air finally 🙂
Really liked the germinating seedling. Perfect timing for a great shot. Going out today and hoping to channel some 'Simon eyes' and find some floor images. Thanks for your continued instruction and inspiration.
How did you get on Bill?
@@SimonBoothPhotography Did get out but did not get on as expected. Park we went to was primarily flooded from rain and snow melt. Went to local botanic garden where we heard some snowdrops just finally bloomed. Got a couple decent macro shots. Thanks again for your lessons - they help keep motivation up.
The first and 2nd really are fabulous, the third one for me is not my cup-of-tea. But boy, your work is good I look forward to every new film.
Something for everyone Ian, thanks.
Lovely as always Simon and thank you for all your efforts. I really enjoy your relaxing and calm way of storytelling. Two questions, 1: How do you deal with Ticks and the risk for tick-born diseases now that we are fully heading into the season? 2: Would it be possible for you to upscale the videos to 4k before uploading them to TH-cam? Compression is really heavy and I think 4k would help a lot from a bit-rate point of view, even if it was originally shot at 1080p. You could also show your lovely pictures in more detail.
Fortunately we don’t get a lot of ticks in my part ok the UK. In fact, in 56 years, I’ve only ever had two. There’s a new nasty one in the UK but again, it’s not really with me. Interesting to hear your comment on quality. What are you viewing on. I watched it this evening on a 42 inch LCD TV and it looked great. The first image looked incredibly sharp, and trust me when I say I’m fussy.
Simon, another inspirational video. I especially like your reflected image of the tree with the waterdroppels falling in. Very creative and omzetting I must try when I can go out in nature with my camera again.
And thats a new word for me Wim. Had to look it up. Yes, I love it when images make you think. Hope you are mending well?
@@SimonBoothPhotography ah … I see now that autocorrect had the better of me and changed the word ‘something’ into the Dutch word ‘omzetting’. God knows which typo I made originally 😅. I’m mending OK, I’m now two months after being hit by the car and can walk again, but with a walker. Still a long way to go, walking over muddy trails will be months away.
@@wimscheenen3535 my goodness, you really did take quite a swipe didn’t you. Best wishes.
Rain? It almost never stops in Oregon. We are at nearly the same latitude as Scotland. The 45th parallel runs through Portland. It is was why I bought an Olympus camera. The OM 4 I had quit working in a down pour. The 4t still works! When you add the image stabilization, compact size, great lenses plus all the other advantages…I digress. Sorry, the rain offers opportunities that sunny days can’t.
I think we just have to accept that we have to adapt and not have a plan all the time.
Simon I love what you spot on the forest floor. Each image leaves me gob smacked and in awe of just how beautiful the forest floor actually is. My favourite from this video though is that first one. What a find that one was! A precious moment in nature. When I look at the tall big trees we have, I am in awe to be reminded that at one point, they were like that little seedling you've photographed. Amazing to think of the possibility that in 300 odd years time, it could be an old tree and you photographed its beginning.
Thanks Denise. It sad to think that when that time comes, not a single person alive on the planet today will get to see it.
@@SimonBoothPhotography exactly! We can enjoy it now!
Well, this Friday feels like a Sunday so thanks for uploading. I’m really quite partial to looking at detail myself, so particularly enjoy these videos from you. That lovely little sycamore seedling: what a stunner! Not for the first time, with this example, I found myself wondering what one of your images might look like as a ‘fine art’ mono print, maybe (in this case) processed to be ‘high key’ (if that’s possible with the background you were given). Speaking of which, what happened to your portable background? (o;
Thanks Barry. I don't have a portable background. I have a big diffuser sheet if that's what you mean, but that's to soften the light. I'm sure there are many who would enjoy a mono print and I'm sure some of my images would translate well. I think because I don't gravitate naturally to mono, I tend to forget about it.
Hello sir, I am a humble follower of yours from Turkiye. Last weekend I watched this video and went out. I took photos with the inspiration I got from this video. I've shared a vlog too, I'd be happy if you could watch it. The content is in Turkish but I hope TH-cam subtitles give you an idea. Thank you very much for the inspiration and keep up the good work. Cheers 👋
I watched your video Ahmet and I wish your channel every success. Thank you.
@@SimonBoothPhotography Thank you so much sir.
❤🙏🙏✌️👍✌️🙏🙏❤
All my excuses destroyed in one video - "It's raining and the light is bad so I'm not going out"
😂
I find great irony in someone scratching the message "enjoy nature" on a fallen log.
That was a nice touch wasn't it.
Mr. Turner did the same topic this week.
You looked absolutely soaked through. Hope that you are OK.
I survived Kathryn. I had a nice hot tea with my feet up in the van after all that. The heating was on too...just lovely.
Always a joy to attend your classes!
