    These types of videos can very easily become boring or tedious. Mr. Fisher is so well spoken and concise that it never has a chance to be boring! Doing a deep dive like this is probably exhausting, but he stayed engaged the entire time which is so helpful for paying attention. Thank you so much Mr. Fisher for making this video!!!

      Darkice Presents just curious, what’s the deal with people always naming the guy that gave them the bill at Sweetwater?You get a discount doing that? Nothing against Sweetwater, never dealt with them cause they can’t ship to where I am, but I have never seen this before at any store. Do they ask you to do that? @@skeletonmodel I obviously don't know Darkice Presents' mind, but in my experience, it's just a nod to appreciating a customer service rep who makes your otherwise lifeless phone/ internet sale a warm, human experience. I pre-ordered and finally took delivery from Sweetwater on my KeyStep Pro and for some reason, I still remember my rep, TJ....Sweetwater must really emphasize how their reps conduct themselves in order to make the whole process feel personal?

    I can't believe it's taken so long for a synth maker to bring Poly AT to a standard keyboard. I love my Roli Rise and being able to slide like a ribbon and play key (keywaves) like a standard keyboard is a unique and special performance feature. You can play Koto or slide guitar or upright bass with practice and vibrato is the most natural on the Seaboard instruments. But playing a standard keyboard has been missing for decades. I think Ensoniq was the last to do it. Anyway, at this price point it is so welcome for the true Vangelis experience.

    • @RayyMusik

    • @RayyMusik
      @RayyMusik 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidLee07 With 5 octaves I usually don’t have to switch octaves. Got no space for an additional keyboard though - and the Hydra module UI seems a little limited to me.

    • @HotStrange
      @HotStrange 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. I preordered the module because I already have a midi controller that supports aftertouch, but even the module having the aftertouch sensitive pads is awesome. Can’t wait to get into some REAL Vangelis territory. The Roli may be my next purchase after that.

    I don’t know if people really realize or understand HOW MUCH this synthesizer is absolutely EXTRAORDINARY.
    Please, I’m asking, which digital synthesizer is better than this one, which synthesizer is better designed than this, which one contains more fantastic and unique functions and ideas...?
    I have never seen something like this product, my god seriously, Ashun Sound Machines is the most UNBELIEVABLE company in the game to me, they succeed to gave birth to their first product on a level NEVER reached before... This is truly unbelievable....... What a team, what a success, what an example for the industry.
    I can bet they will have a big documentary later in time about this move.
    I really have the feeling that people still don’t realize what we have here but later for sure it will be a huge classic masterpiece. This synth is so powerful and deep that it needs time to be recognized I think.
    And god, the quality of this synth, the price... This is a gift from Synth’s Gods...!!
    The only one thing I don’t understand is why ASM don’t let the TH-camrs who worked on this synth telling us that... I mean ok it’s certainly a marketing strategy but seriously, what’s the real impact to keep that « secret », especially when all their names are in the manual on first page...? Guys, you can be fucking proud and the synth history will remember your names, you deserve it, period.
    And now... I can’t wait to know if ASM will continue to create new stuff!!!
    Big salut to all, from France 🇫🇷

    ASM could've added a short vertical ribbon controller next to the master volume on the desktop module because many people will use a midi keyboard with it. Tommy G I have since sold mine. But NOT because I didn’t like it. It’s an absolutely amazing synth, but IMO, the Module is not the way to go. You need an expensive midi controller to fully take advantage of poly aftertouch, as using the pads is not easy or fun for playing live leads, basses, and pads. Unless you’re mostly sequencing externally, the keyboard version is the one to get. Unfortunately I got the module. So I sold it for about what I paid for it, and will likely be getting the keyboard version some time over the next year. I do highly recommend it though. It’s a very amazing sounding and intuitive synth.

      The monotimbral nature makes 16 voices no real benefit at all 99% of the time. Best application for duo Hydra is in the fashion used by ASM themselves as parallel layering of bass and melody. Basically both used as separate devices (8 along side 8 not combined). Overflow mode is of course there yes but you won't really use it unless you are pushing certain styles and boundaries.

The only question is if the waves or wave sets will be expandable. I couldn't find any information about this. Maybe this will be a future feature in firmware but I will wait until this has been confirmed because that feature is extremely important to me.

    Would the Hydrasynth be too deep for someone fairly new to synths? I own the Roland Gaia on Daniel's recommendation. It has fantastic sounds! Would love to take a class on the Hydrasynth as it has so many great features.

      Hi IRIDEHARLEYS. (IRIDEHARLEYSALSO)
      I can assure you that the ASM Hydrasynth not only sounds fantastic, it also is very intuitive to learn and tweak. Simply push any button that's in the signal flow layout and you'll jump to that page. Take the plunge! -_Daniel_

    I think they called it hydra because it has many heads and can think many things and do many things.

    While sweeping that resonant lowpass filter over a low sawtooth wave into a ping-pong delay, I thought it was an actual earthquake incoming for a second, since I wasn't paying attention to the video. :-)

    15:48 My guess for what Window does would be something like only resetting the slave oscillator if it's outside a certain "window" amount of phase as measured from cycle start. I think that would have the effect of emphasising harmonics more as you sweep, which seems to be what it's doing.
    EDIT: I believe I was wrong. I think it's actually removing the glitches at the reset points by smoothing them out!

    This kind of reminds my of a modern mix between an Alesis Ion and Blofeld. Really digging it. Can’t wait for more demos once people get to making patches. I think right now the demos are very broad and trying to cram so much into a small space. I think it sounds warm and also harsh. Maybe not as warm as a Peak/Summit as it doesn’t have analog filters, drive, and VCAs. But it’s far more flexible. Wish the keyboard was 61 keys and that it had an audio in. Would also have been cool if the ribbon was pressure sensitive and you could combine ribbon modes. Would be really handy to couple theramin mode with the “always zero” mode and also the hold. Glissando in the glide section would have been welcomed too. Also wish it was at least 16 voice and bitimbral. Love the effects, lol there’s even a rotary. Love that there’s built in EQ. All things considered though this is a really cool first offering and a welcome contender in the market. Can’t wait to try one.

      No need to be so picky, it’s still an amazing synth for the price. I don’t think the Peak has VCAs though. Just the filter is analog.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi gdmchn. The front panel knobs are sent out of the5-pin DIN MIDI Out and USB as NRPN (non-registered parameter number), which can be recorded and played back into the Hydrasynth using any external hardware or computer sequencer. Thanks for watching!

      Hi ERP. What you're hearing is a single, low note of a Saw wave going through a resonant Low-Pass Filter whose Cutoff Frequency is being swept with the Ribbon. Then it's going to a stereo Ping-Pong Delay. That's it. -_Daniel_

    Buy the full size w/keyboard and ribbon or the desktop and add a Roli Seaboard Block to play it?

    • @pontram
      @pontram 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the Seaboard Blocks, I would say you give the Desktop a try. That would be a very small setup. But remember that you need a Midi host interface, or a computer between the two, since Roli Seaboard Blocks has only USB Midi. The hydrasynth has no host interface like Organelle or Akai mpc live.

    Nice gospel chords at @1:08 Daniel! Really like your take on mimicking analog behavior. This seems like a great piece of gear and the workflow heralds back to my ESQ1 days but obviously miles beyond that. I am seeking a good poly with analog-ish sounds - and like the hybrid approach - and am a bit torn between Prologue 16, Summit, JD-XA, System 8 and now this....

      It has standard VA waveshapes but they can be chained into Wavetable oscillators. And no you can’t import your own at this time.

      Hi Haut Strange. Yes! Each of the ASM Hydrasynth's five LFOs has a slew parameter called "Smooth" which can go from no effect at all to so much slew that the Square wave and Triangle wave will end up identical. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
