    They spoke to each other as men did back home, with solemnity and kindness. Things we Americans more often than not, lack.

    끝까지 멈추지 않고 볼 수 밖에 없는 강연과 Q&A였네요, 정말 감동적입니다. 이민진 작가님의 가장 최근 강연인것 같네요, 올려주셔서 감사합니다! I could not stop watching all through till the end of the video. Thank you for uploading this lecture and Q&A session of the writer of Min Jin Lee. Very touching and moving I even cried when I heard her marriage story because I could totally understand what her father thought at that moment. As an English tour guide living in South Korea I've met so many Americans and most of them really don't know the relations between Korea and Japan and the histories between these two countries which are still going on. I loved this novel because this is not just about those brutal history but ordinary people's life who are struggling as all the people do all around the world overcoming all different type of difficulties. I read this novel in Korean first and I bought another one , English version. Thank you so much again for sharing this great lecture.

    When I was a freshman and was attending this lecture, I would've chosen writing as my career instead of IT. This is from someone who has made it in NY city as a Sr. Ent. Architect.

    to me;{ we appreciate your time and effort today to interview with us. We do plan to move forward with other qualified RNs for this and other positions and will no longer be considering your candidacy, Again, thanks so much.} I instinctively thought about reply and could notice that there was no specific reason describe and no politeness. I am all of time of my life to dedicated in the hospital and currently work in agent for the same position. THEN .I starts to keep thinking of what is this and happen to me, and learned that from Professor Min Jin Lee. Min jin Lee stood up now because the peoples around in this USA in very special people and certain level of peoples are do not know nothing about who Asians are and they do not have knowledges about who Asians are, and sure they must to be learned about what are Asians' cultures where mention that what is a basic IMPORTANT concept for living in community at least it is needed to be known a respect.................................................
    I COULD KEEP THINKING OF THESE AMPTY and no MEANINGFUL SENTENCE...... THEN I WOULD LOVE TO PUT HERE TO BE KNOWN TO EVERYONE. I've been living IN U.S.A. over 30 yrs with been worked inside acute care at medical field 25 yrs where my daily working place is highest stressful fast path area, and I dedicated all of my life. I am proud of to learn about how important of a community services include of specially homeless people, young boys has gun shot, alcoholism diagnosis by many immigrants, and wound care patients. Now I has currently experience is home health care which assigned by daily basis visit clients home. I interviewed exactly same level of position in the same specialized job in this company, then they just reject me. By what is reason for? To be honestly I could say and acknowledged that Because of my accent different from them? It makes them feel [emotional way] uncomfortable or they pick up seems like a broken word from me if it there---all of the way of talk within it was to feel uncomfortable[emotionally] to them? UNCOMFORTABILITY is nothing affect to work. I would love to open this toward to public. Is this a racisms and discriminations from them ,isn't it?. The Pro Lee is right to say that and I am over 100 % comprehensible of the way of her thought. They are seeking the perfect person as like a machinery worker or work like a Robot for their company. Instead of that I am a human being with possessed a powerful knowledges and Heroic, Romantic, and more. Thanks

    I have done reading halt the book of pachinko with tremendous excitement. But I don't really expect that this video includes terrible spoiler. It's so disappointing. For whom has yet to read the book, I recommend not to watch Q&A part after Professor Lee's speech.

    "Every Sunday morning, I was taught to love my neighbors"
    She's clearly hinting at Christianity, which is absolutely hilarious. Every Sunday morning in America, slavery was justified. Every Sunday morning in America, KKK killed blacks in their god's name and recruited their members. Every Sunday morning in Canada, indigenous populations were buried in mass graves, taught that they and their culture were human trash. And every Sunday morning in Korea where she should know better, Koreans were reminded of their cultural inferiority and that their ancestors all went to hell because they did not believe in Christianity.
    Did this not cross her incredibly wise writer mind ever or what's the absolutely beautiful mental gymnastics she's done to justify this?

    • @slc4226
      @slc4226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the speaker/writer would agree with everything you said, but that doesn't invalidate the fact that "Every Sunday morning, [she] was taught to lover [her] neighbors."

    Do people know what Pachinko is and what it does to the Japanese society??? It is a gambling operation that created more problem than anything. I admire stories of those who made something of themselves by solving problems and leaving the world a better place, not creating another problem and getting rich off of it. Should I admire leaders of Japanese organized crime, just because they managed to bring themselves out of poverty? Her book reflects South Korean mentality more than anything, and it isn't something to be proud of. Everything is justifiable as long as you become wealthy, it doesn't matter how you get there. I am appalled by the mindless worshiping of this book and this author.

    • @slc4226
      @slc4226 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Have you actually read the book? At no point does the author glorify the game of pachinko or the rise of its industry in Japan or anywhere else. The author is American, of Korean descent. The prejudice you express against your view of the "South Korean mentality" is baseless. Contrary to your view of the author and her book Pachinko, what she advocates is empathy for -- and understanding of -- all people, their histories, and their cultures.
