I loved this video so much, it's so cozy and you have such a wonderful energy! I'm not doing Camp NaNo this year, but I am working on editing my NaNoWriMo project from 2022. It's super inspiring to see a traditionally published author (of one of my favourite ever romance books!) also using the NaNoWriMo method :)

A number of weeks ago I read How to Excavate a Heart, it's the first book I've finished in 5 years (I listen to audiobooks, but I haven't actually finished reading a book with my eyes since 2019) and it has gotten me back into reading!
I grew up being a big reader, it was a really important part of my life, but I started having bad attention issues in middle school, and haven't regained my book fervor since. However I've been reading again since I finished your book, and I'm so excited about it!
I really enjoyed How to Excavate a Heart, it was so funny and warmly written. I love Shani as a character, I love that she's so passionate about paleontology and I love that she's butch !! (as a nb butch I really needed that rep haha)
How to Excavate a Heart was such a breath of fresh air, and now youtube has suggested your channel to me ?? (the algorithm actually working??? Shocking)
So I just wanted to say thank you for writing such a great book, and I can't wait to read more of your books in the future :)
Also I didn't know we were from the same area, Seattle gays unite!

Omg okay I feel like I'm finding these so late, but it's so nice to see more cozy NaNo vlogs! I barely got my word count goal in (it's finals season, slay), but I managed to reach 30K on my contracted adult sapphic rom-com, which puts me way ahead of where I needed to be, so I'm happy!!

@@jakearlow Thanks lol. I'm just lucky that I had to time to spend a few evenings hyperfixating. I baaarely got to my WC goal; I'd have been happy just getting two words in, lmao

I love your energy and productivity, I need some of that to rub off on me. I started out doing camp nano, trying to nail down an outline for an adult mystery but I keep getting sidetracked by querying misery. It just sucks up sooo much brain space. Every time I get feedback I go back and do more revisions to that work, ignoring the new book I'm trying to outline. Any advice on how to write something new while querying would be appreciated:)

thank you so much ! and i totally get that - i often feel that way when i'm waiting for edits/on submission etc etc, and i DEFINITELY felt that way when i was querying. i don't have all that much advice but just solidarity from someone else who cannot do much writing on "new projects" while the fate of my other projects hang in the balance
