Thanks to Frank Evans and Frankly Jazz TV for this great recording of Gerald's early 1960s big band. And great to see Gerald blowing horn. Too bad there isn't more of this. Like that.

How AWESOME is that??? I remember listening to this on KBCA 105.1 The Voice of Jazz in Los Angeles, as a child. My Father and Mother loved jazz music..and I grew up to love it too. Gerald Wilson is a GOD to me. I'm 57.

I grew up in my teens in los angeles ( pasadena) and watched this great show and tuned into jazz station KBCA to hear this song all the time...also the Crusaders live from the zebra lounge. Great memories!

Yes radio station, KABC the coolest, station on the air, they were so hip, you didn't even mind the commercials, the DJ that played Gerald Wilson's, Viva Tornado, for his theme song, was Chuck Niles, I believe? But what I remember most, was on Saturday, the KbCA jazz truck would go to different parts of the city, for jam sessions. Damn! A lot of memories... If I said KABC I meant KBCA.

I heard this band at Monterey Jazz Festival in 1963. I even got an autograph from Teddy Edwards ( who was the BOMB, as they say nowadays ).

Absolutely great. It is fantastic that someone found these videos hosted by the late, great Frank Evans. Today, Gerald Wilsonis truly a living legend in big band jazz. This brings back wonderful memories of The Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach and the balmy evenings listening to the Gerald Wilson Band.

Yes and the All night sessions, at the theater on Washington, Blvd. Across from the IT club, or the KABUKI Theatre, on Adams, Blvd, at CRENSHAW. Again thanks for the memories...

Saw this band several times at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA back in the day. Always a blast. Carmel Jones did the trumpet solos then instead of Gerald.

Gerald Wilson's interview w/ Bob Edwards (NPR) bought me here.I herd a sample of "Blues for Yenya" & was HOOKED. This song is so smooth. True music appreciation. This legend is still playing at 92!! Says he eats oatmeal every morning-just like my 86 y.o. Mom
Thank you so much for uploading this. Later...

It was a great experience studying jazz history CSU Northridge with Gerald Wilson as our professor for the class. Took it three times, once for the A then twice just to audit and to be in his presence.
