Mortal Kombat is a soft reboot of the franchise, being both a story continuation of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (2006) and a reboot of history. In terms of gameplay, the game returns to the series' roots - although the characters and locations are rendered in 3D, the gameplay is in a 2D space, as was the case in the early Mortal Kombat games.
The game received very positive reviews from critics. It was also a commercial success, selling a million copies in the first month alone. Released in 2015
