Hi Helen, that was super…..going to make your braised steak in the slow cooker and both your cakes. Love how you make cake making look so easy and the addition of the sliced apple took it to another level. Thank you xx 🏴
I love 'At Home With Helen', gorgeous cakes and a lovely casserole. Perfect for an autumn day. You gave me a good tip with the chocolate drops. Mine always manage to sink to the bottom of the cake, so now I will keep my batter a little stiffer and hopefully they will distribute better throughout the cake. Love the shade of red of your jumper it really suits you. Looks like one of the reds when your sister did your colours the other day. Thank you for everything you do Helen. It really is appreciated. xx
Forgot to ask in my last comment. When you weighed the eggs for your cake. Do they also have to be 6oz in weight like the rest of the ingredients without the shells? Thanks x
That jumper is so nice on you. It all looks so easy when you make things. But dont denigrate yourself thats a talent. I used (and still do at christmas) cakes with 2,2,2 and just change the flavours, one with choclate and nescoffe grains, half and half, thats so good. Wish i have someone to get my baking to but they are to far away. Thanks as always a treat. ❤
How appropriate that you are making apple cake. When moving we inherited an apple tree and now have a crop of apples. I have made lots and placed in freezer but really tempted to make an apple cake…yummy. Strange there has always been this science behind making cakes, to be very precise and weighing each egg individually etc. Absolute tosh!! I am excited to make a warming dish of braising steak, definately the season. Thanks Helen xx
Everything looked delicious Helen. I don’t know how you can calmly feed so many! 😂 I remember years ago 40 to be exact. I was only 29 years old. I decided I was going to invite the whole family for Christmas dinner. 13 of us in total! I should have known it would have been a disaster with unlucky 13! Well, I got a huge turkey, but the roasting tray I had wasn’t really deep enough. So what a disaster it was, the juices had overflowed in the oven and it was all over the kitchen floor! 😂 I nearly killed myself slipping on it, I was in such a panic, trying to serve everything to everyone at the same time, so it wouldn’t get cold 😅 Never again! 😂 Mind you everyone seemed to have a good time and said they enjoyed the dinner, or at least that’s what they said. 😂 😘
Braising steak dinner was my favourite when I was a little girl .The gravy was almost the best bit ,I’d dip bread into the gravy so as not to waste any of it
Just had to give the apple cake a try I didn’t really believe it would turn out so well with this quick method. It was lovely the only trouble is I can’t stop eating it!!! Trying the chocolate cake next thanks Helen
Yep mushroom soup in your mushroom mug😂 Bins, yes I remember my aunties used to love the store. I just love your enthusiasm for mushrooms/decor we can see how much you love it❤ I use the roasting bags there brilliant! My canny Dad was a shoe repairer and always told us to rub soap into the heel of the shoe to soften the material it may help you. Yes to the Sunderland makom 😊thanks Elayne x❤
Love your relaxed attitude to baking. It has made me want to bake a cake tomorrow. That’s why you’re called an Influencer - but definitely in a good way x
Enjoyed this Helen That’s my go to meal, very similar to yours but I add mushrooms and garlic to mine as well. Apple cake is one of my favourite cakes and how funny I’m exactly the same as Rob,I just can’t have chocolate in the house as I would demolish the lot and back in the day I’d eat the kids Easter Eggs(they’re in their forties now) and I’ve also been known to re buy my husbands bar of chocolate when I’ve been desperate and eaten his😱Not anymore though ,just don’t eat it now.Strangely enough if I ever have a weak moment now it upsets my tummy🤷🏼♀️😊
Love these videos. That "red" looks great on you. After watching Jackie's video with your color diagnostics, I think I'm a warm spring too! Now I'm looking at all my clothes and ALL my mistakes, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You’ll think I’ve lost the plot Helen but I could swear I could smell you browning off that meat as I watched! The steak I mean, not you!!! 😂 All looked so tasty. I love your relaxed approach in the kitchen…I sometimes find myself being too obsessive with the recipes, measurements etc. My Mum was the best cook and baker…she seemed to know her quantities instinctively and everything always tasted delicious. I’m amazed to hear about Rob’s chocolate exorcist!! I definitely need that treatment. I used to much prefer savoury but as I get older, I cannot live without chocolate and like Rob, I unfortunately just can’t ignore it if I know it’s in the house. Weirdly, my husband also used to really enjoy chocolate - he loved Mars Bars and Kit-Kats and could scoff many at a time, but since having radiotherapy and chemo, he just isn’t interested in it - for almost 2 years now he hasn’t looked at a chocolate bar of any kind…so strange. Anyway Helen, thanks again for sharing you. Take care. Mary (Scottish Hel’s Belle living in France) 🤗
Ah, thank you. I think that things like Mars bars etc have got much sweeter than they used to be. I much prefer dark chocolate now. Though I must admit that cake was rather nice. I had some heated in the microwave with some greek yogurt, now that was good! haha xx
Love these kind of vlogs. Your braised steak looks AMAZING. When I do slow cooker dishes, I struggle to thicken the juices. Never thickens enough for me, but maybe I am putting too much fluid in to start with. I did your Apple cake after the last vlog, but I put some crumble on top and it was delicious. Will be trying the chocolate cake too
Ooooh that's proper autumn fayre😋. Cakes look delicious as well and even though I've had my tea, I've got cake envy now 😂😂. You look fab in that colour btw, really suits you.
You are such a neat cook - when I try to put cake mix into lined loaf tins, invariably some goes on the outside of the liner! And I see that when you put the beef and gravy into the bacofoil bag none spilled! Very impressive.
That apple cake looked fabulous and so easy to make. You're such a natural; modelling clothes, cookery programmes, ..... Always a pleasure to watch, whatever you do.
Agree silicone spatulas are great when baking cakes. I recently bought 2 mini ones which come in so handy for scraping the last bit of jam out the jar, and things like cream out the mini blender. Would highly recommend. Got mine from a kitchen shop in the Lake District but Amazon has them. Tala pack of two xx
See, red is definitely your colour Helen. Really look warm and vibrant in it.❤❤ That braising steak meal looks yummy as do the cakes. You're a domestic goddess.🤗
Oh Helen - just made the Apple Cake and cooked on air fryer setting at 170 degrees and the Demerara sugar completely burnt and set the smoke alarm off! Inside wasn’t cooked so I wrapped it in foil and finished the cooking at a lower temp. We will still eat it though! I used ‘air fryer’ setting. If I used ‘Bake’ setting I wonder if that would have made a difference.
How strange, that has never happened to me.... I do find that I have to check the centre of the cakes to make sure they are cooked. I also don't have any luck with silicone 'tins'. I only use the Air Fryer setting... I wonder why that happened. xx
Really enjoyed your cooking Helen you’ve set me off I have some braising steak in the freezer so guess what we’ll be having soon 😂your cakes look so easy to make thank you for the receipies the simpler the better for me 👍❤️
What a lovely video! Your braised steak looks yummy. The 2 cakes looked tasty too. So easy to make. What a good idea to have a bowl that stands on scales so you are not double handling. Well done! ❤
in the U.S. corn flour is what we would use to make tortillas, corn bread, steamed masa and the like. what the English call 'corn flour' is referred to as 'corn STARCH' in American English. i wonder if other English speaking countries have idiosyncrasies like this. have any of the commenters had cooking disasters due to the belief we are all speaking the same language? please comment if you have! before the internet (back in the stone ages), i had an old cookbook from England that gave me HEARTACHE.❤❤❤💔

Hopefully it encourages others to save money, eat more healthy and to have the satisfaction of making their own delicious meals. I cook and I do enjoy your pleasant presentations.
Hi Helen , that braising steak looked good , I made exactly the same last week . In a slow cooker & with dumplings 😂. So tasty , the cakes looked good , going to make them , never used my air fryer to cook cakes , I’m not sure my tin would fit . But you made it look so easy 👍.

Reporting in today that mince is on at 1/2 price. This is excellent and I will buy a lot and portion the mince into 1 cup portions..shape like snowballs and freeze them in the deep freezer. Pretty well over here right now meat prices are out of sight. Thanksgiving is coming up in CANADA and that's a huge holiday. I placed an order for a fresh turkey 10 lbs. And that will cost me close to 40 quid. I have all these kids as you know so I will make 10-12 side dishes to stretch the turkey. That's just what you have to do to pull this off.
Fab. When I freeze mince, I freeze it flat in freezer bags and then divide it from outside the bag with a ruler or back of a knife, that way you can break off what you need and it defrosts so quickly. I thought meat was expensive here... xx
Hi Helen it’s that time of year again when out comes the slow cooker. We cooked a beef casserole in ours yesterday. I live in Lincolnshire and the weather today has been awful, it hasn’t stopped raining all day. We are off to Cyprus on Wednesday and I can’t wait to see the Sun.❤️
Had to skip past the braising steak bit as I don't eat meat, but the cakes looked delicious and so easy even I could make them so I think I might have a go once I'm back home as the AirB&B I'm staying in has no baking tins. I know you don't like to talk about it, but you are looking amazingly slim Helen and your skin looks FAB. You are disappearing before our eyes and we viewers do notice as you post so many videos. 😊
Thank you for baking video I stopped making chocolate cake cause it never turned out right now I know it's four & and half flour and one and a half Coco powder I was adding 6 flour then Coco powder thanks Helen loved all the video tonight ❤
You inspire me to cook and bake. (That is a miracle!) Classic Fall favorites are never a bad idea - YUM! As others have said, your matter-of-fact, let’s get right to it-ness reduces barriers for we procrastinators!😂 when we see it is no big deal after all. Red jumper-sweater is lovely with the pearls! Is it the warm Spring Red or Other? It looks great either way, as you are good in reds. Still chuckling over your purple reaction (purple is also my Achilles Heel)..and all the fun family interactions. Thanks, Helen❤
Love your cooking segments!! Yesterday I slow cooked stew in similar manner as you and after many years tried some dumplings (Scottish, dough balls) 😂 weren't perfect but were good. Will try both cakes in coming days. Red really looks fab on you!! ❤
Well that’s my cakes and family meal sorted this week. Helen you are a godsend. You make it all look so easy so your brief for yourself was completely successful. And can I say your camera work is becoming very professional xx
Hi Helen. That steak looked delicious good old winter food. You make the cakes look so easy I always seem to get in such a mess when I’m baking. Thanks for all the tips. Xxx
Thank you for this Helen. I'm a good cook, but a dreadful baker. But you made those cakes look easy so I'll definitely be giving them a go very soon! You have inspired me 😊👩🍳👍x
Helen..presently watching the steak video. Your UK groceries are much less expensive than in Canada. Three pounds of steak over here would cost 30 quid. None of us will pay this BUT for holidays only we would splurge. This recipe looks fantastic I paid $10.00 Cdn. Money two weeks ago for 1 lb. Of mince or almost 6 quid. AND prices keep going up.
Our big Tesco up the carriageway a few miles along on the busiest carriageway in N.I. doesn't have a butchers counter or a fresh fish counter. I'm moaning I know from times past. 😢 Great video ❤
I've already watched this twice. Very comforting to see you cooking. Please would you consider another laundry edition with tips eg hand washing cashmere (I avoid that), keeping whites, white - that sort of thing?
Yummy, that looks just perfect for supper! I am always astounded how easily you whip up cakes; if I did that here at 5300 ft. altitude, it would be a giant chocolate pancake!! Thanks for sharing! 🍎🥮🎂
My mouth was watering at the braising steak 🥩…..and the 🍰. Love your jumper Helen, where is it from please? Thank you for sharing…love at home with Helen! 😊❤x
Very impressed with your camera work👍I want to thank you for making me hungry AGAIN😂really enjoyed your video Helen these ones are my favourite , I will try your chocolate cake tomorrow ,I look forward to your next video ❤❤❤
Hi HMJ - your mention of hypnotherapy for Rob’s love of chocolate hit a v strong chord with me … is there any way you could tell me where he went (I’m guessing we don’t live far from each other from comments you’ve made). I eat far too much chocolate and it’s amazing what hypnosis seems to have done for him. Hope you don’t mind my asking. SarahX 🍫
Hi, it wasn't hynotherapy. I honestly have no idea what she did. I don't have the details I'm afraid, it was up where we used to live over 20 years ago... Sorry xx
ONG, Helen! The slow cooked beef looks so yummy 😋 I love it ❤ Getting really hungry even though I just had my dinner 😊 😋 And the apple and chocolate cakes look scrumptious too 😋😍 So easy to make 😊 Thank you for sharing the delicious food recipes, Helen 😍 xx
Hello Helen..I'm 66 years old I I always leave some cake mixture in the bowl for hubby or me, takes me back to my childhood. Lovely cakes might try the apple one thank you.
I used some stewing steak to make a meat pie. It turned out delicious my America son in law loved it. My husband wants to know when I’m making it again.
Hi Helen, great video, thanks. It prompted me to cook braised steak again. Ime struggling to find good pepper and salt grinders, yours look really good, are they a super market purchase.❤️
It looks delicious Helen. My mother would only buy Chump steak.. An Northern Ireland Mother. Butchers will keep Chump ( small end) aside to go good to give out to anyone. if the butcher will give it up. I'm sharing a secret. When you ask for Chump steak your butcher will give you the look this woman knows what she is talking about. You will have to wrestle the small end from him Chump steak carrots and onions slow cooked is the best. I wouldn't buy anything else. Yes it's a bit more expensive but it's worth every penny. I've asked for chump steak small end sorry there's a chap comes in every week for the small end we keep it for him that was in a well know butchers who had a counter in Tesco. 😮
Hello Helen another great video,,,I always thought vivid colors are stunning on you.. I could envision the chocolate cake with a big dio of French vanilla ice cream and the Apple cake with hot caramel sauce..
They’ve discovered that those plastic salt/pepper mills are putting micro plastics into our food. Once the weather changes I want turkey barley soup and beef stew with dumplings but most of all a full turkey dinner. I usually have to wait till Thanksgiving for the turkey dinner but ours is Oct. 14th so not so long to wait. I do often just get turkey breast , have a little roast dinner myself then make the soup with what’s left. Yum. Have a nice week. 🙋🏼♀️
I used 750 mls of stock in the end, and that was plenty.... But you'll have to gauge it for yourselves... use less and add more if you need to xx
See, I love watching Helen cook because even as a seasoned cook of 40 years, she makes everything so matter of fact and easy. xx
Ah, thank you xx

Love your cooking segments!! Yesterday I slow cooked stew in similar manner as you and after many years tried some dumplings (Scottish, dough balls) 😂 weren't perfect but were good. Will try both cakes in coming days. Red really looks fab on you!! ❤
Sounds delish.
Thank you xx
My mouth is watering watching this 😋 everything looks delicious. ❤️
Ah, thank you xx
You look lovely in that colour.
I was just thinking I will make stew and dumplings tomorrow for dinner as the weather has changed so drastically.
It really has.
Enjoy xx
Well that’s my cakes and family meal sorted this week. Helen you are a godsend. You make it all look so easy so your brief for yourself was completely successful. And can I say your camera work is becoming very professional xx
That's very kind, thank you xx
Really enjoy your at home vlogs , I made the apple cake was lovely , the braising steak looks delicious 😊
Thank you xx
Hi Helen. That steak looked delicious good old winter food. You make the cakes look so easy I always seem to get in such a mess when I’m baking. Thanks for all the tips. Xxx
My pleasure xx
Thank you for this Helen. I'm a good cook, but a dreadful baker. But you made those cakes look easy so I'll definitely be giving them a go very soon! You have inspired me 😊👩🍳👍x
Good, it's easy, I promise xx
Yum to everything! I’m salivating too!
Haha, thank you xx
Helen..presently watching the steak video. Your UK groceries are much less expensive than in Canada. Three pounds of steak over here would cost 30 quid. None of us will pay this BUT for holidays only we would splurge. This recipe looks fantastic
I paid $10.00 Cdn. Money two weeks ago for 1 lb. Of mince or almost 6 quid. AND prices keep going up.
Goodness, I thought things were expensive here.... xx
Thanks for sharing your recipes, my favourites 😋 you look really lovely today Helen!
That's very kind, thank you xx
Loved this video Helen and can you tell me what metod you use to reheat the stew once defrosted please
I reheat in a pan slowly until heated through, or short blasts in a microwave. Important not to cook it again. xx
When did you add the thickening paste?
I added it once the casserole had come up to temperature, but you could add it half way through. xx
I love apple cake I still haven’t tried baking cakes in my air fryer yet
I rarely put the main oven on. It's so expensive. xx
Our big Tesco up the carriageway a few miles along on the busiest carriageway in N.I. doesn't have a butchers counter or a fresh fish counter. I'm moaning I know from times past. 😢 Great video ❤
Love your jumper I enjoyed your cooking your so confident and you still managed a weather report ,what a girl ❤❤
Haha, thank you xx
Thanks for sharing, everything looks delicious. X
My pleasure, thank you xx
Hello 👋 Dear Helen
At home with Helen is splendid 😊Toodles 😊😊
Thank you very much xx
I've already watched this twice. Very comforting to see you cooking. Please would you consider another laundry edition with tips eg hand washing cashmere (I avoid that), keeping whites, white - that sort of thing?
Oh okay, I'll see what I can do. xx
Love the red jumper, really suits you. Please can you tell me where you bought it from. Thank you 💚
The red jumper was from Mint Velvet a year or so ago xx
Helen you look amazing. That red colour really suits you.

Loved this video Helen..
Always great to you cooking..
looks amazing x
Ah, thank you xx
That all looks delicious. Probably sounds like a daft question, but how do you reheat the braising steak after it's defrosted?
Either gently in a pan or a few minutes or in the microwave until it's heated through but not cooked again... xx
Yummy, that looks just perfect for supper! I am always astounded how easily you whip up cakes; if I did that here at 5300 ft. altitude, it would be a giant chocolate pancake!! Thanks for sharing! 🍎🥮🎂
Oh goodness.
Thank you xx
Hi Helen…just the weather for casseroles..I always add parsnips as it gives the gravy a lovely flavour….x
Me too, love parsnips
I love parsnips.. but was always taught not to buy them until we'd had a hard frost.... don't know if that's an old wives tale.. xx
Helen Maryjo love watching you cook and bake and seeing the end result as I am not a cook or baker you make it look so easy x
It is easy, honestly.
Thank you xx

Hi HMJ - your mention of hypnotherapy for Rob’s love of chocolate hit a v strong chord with me … is there any way you could tell me where he went (I’m guessing we don’t live far from each other from comments you’ve made). I eat far too much chocolate and it’s amazing what hypnosis seems to have done for him. Hope you don’t mind my asking. SarahX 🍫
Hi, it wasn't hynotherapy. I honestly have no idea what she did. I don't have the details I'm afraid, it was up where we used to live over 20 years ago... Sorry xx
Loved the video Helen . Can I ask what kind of slow cooker you have please ? ❤
My goodness, it's so old, I think I bought it in Argos for about £20 about 10 years ago or more. They last forever xx
Love these videos ! I don’t have an air fryer - what temperature in the fan oven would you use and for how long please ? X
I would probably cook at 170 for 30 minutes and then check with a skewer and add 10 minutes if needed. All ovens are slightly different. xx
@@Helenmaryjo thank you x
Loved that video love watching you cook and it was proper autumnal food I love this time of year ❤❤🍁🍁🍁🍂

I love to cook but I’m not a baker. You make baking seem so very easy. I will try your apple cake some day soon.
You can do it! xx
ONG, Helen! The slow cooked beef looks so yummy 😋 I love it ❤ Getting really hungry even though I just had my dinner 😊 😋

Hello Helen..I'm 66 years old I I always leave some cake mixture in the bowl for hubby or me, takes me back to my childhood. Lovely cakes might try the apple one thank you.
Haha, it certainly does take you back.
Thank you xx
I used some stewing steak to make a meat pie. It turned out delicious my America son in law loved it. My husband wants to know when I’m making it again.
I LOVE a meat pie xx

The cake looks so good.
Great cooking video 🫶🏾
Thank you xx
Hi Helen, great video, thanks. It prompted me to cook braised steak again. Ime struggling to find good pepper and salt grinders, yours look really good, are they a super market purchase.❤️
Ah thank you. They are from Costco, but I also just bought some from Sainsbury's in the Habitat Sale, I'll show them next time xx
Hi Helen what size loaf tins did you use for the cakes (1lb or 2lb) thank you. Loving all the content you show on the channel keep up the good work. 🌸
2lb tins.
Thank you xx
Sounds good. xx
Hello Helen another great video,,,I always thought vivid colors are stunning on you.. I could envision the chocolate cake with a big dio of French vanilla ice cream and the Apple cake with hot caramel sauce..
I'll let you into a secret... haha. I heated a slice up in the microwave and had it with a dollop of Greek Yogurt, it was delicious! haha xx
Lovely demo very encouraging. Xx i cam smell all those lol
Ah, thank you xx
They’ve discovered that those plastic salt/pepper mills are putting micro plastics into our food.
Once the weather changes I want turkey barley soup and beef stew with dumplings but most of all a full turkey dinner. I usually have to wait till Thanksgiving for the turkey dinner but ours is Oct. 14th so not so long to wait. I do often just get turkey breast , have a little roast dinner myself then make the soup with what’s left. Yum.
Have a nice week. 🙋🏼♀️
And you, thank you xx
