    There needs to be a push to get Lemax to do these pieces with music only. The goofy dialogue ruins so much of that beautiful music behind it.

      The soundtrack should go with it and be things like screaming in reaction to the jump scares IMO.

    Why is the large pumpkin guy so naked and muscular? That's definitely an odd choice. 😂 Would love the see the finished project when you get it all landscaped. It sounds like a great idea!

    I was looking forward to this piece. It did come out great, and I'm glad Lemax is going back the their old ways of working accesory pieces into their buildings. The Creepy Corn Rows, if you're lucky enough to have a bunch, will make an easy expansion of the maze.
    It sounds like I'll be engineering a way to quiet down the poppers, though. 😉

    I really like the theming too, it feels very classic. I don’t really collect any Spookytown buildings made past 2012, but this might just fit right in with my ‘vintage’ village. Feels strange calling it vintage, been collecting since 2003. I might not put on the flying scarecrows on the back , they have been borderline abusing that animation piece ever since last house on the left and it’s not very unique or special anymore. I prefer the really detailed animations that were on the earlier pieces, where things didn’t just spin or rotate around. The popping up and down on this maze is a reference to an older, great graveyard piece called Dead Are Rising. It was retired this year, little HTF but great piece if it’s working

    Very nice piece; I agree about weathering it a bit with a wash. Also, that flannel shirt is perfect!! It is interesting how agritainment is influenced by your geographic area. In Kansas, we do have corn mazes at pumpkin patches, but the pumpkins are trucked in rather than grown!

    • @SpookyVillages
      @SpookyVillages  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel like around here, most pumpkin patches aren't large enough to even have a proper corn maze! Almost all of them have some sort of hay bale mini maze or attraction for kids though!

    This is one I was really debating getting, as it is a very cool one. I can see how the soundtrack has stirred up controversy though. This piece may be coveted simply because of the light up eyes in the maze, very similar to that classic accessory. This year, I think I am sticking to the pumpkin facade, cursed ruins, and pumpkin motel (which I already have and is amazing!).

    You can also apply a wash over lights as well, dimming them to various degrees. I use black nail polish over the bulbs. But always have a wet paper towel in case the light gets too dim. For example, on my display, I have the D56 Laghostly Theatre. The marquee lights were so bright they would ruin any picture I would take of my display. I dimmed them down and now the pictures look great!

    • @SpookyVillages
      @SpookyVillages  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used various Tamiya paints in the past to darken bulbs in my radio control projects! I have learned to make some washes using oil paints, but lately I've been using a variety of premade washes from Vallejo, Citadel, and AMMO and they are AWESOME! This has been on scale tank models though. I am going to experiement on what works best with Lemax buildings!

    Doug,
    I was pretty excited about this piece when I first saw it, but now that I see more of it, I know why I'm kind of turned off now. The A-Maze-Ing Pumpkin Patch feels to me like Lemax just phoned it in. They knew people were clamoring for a corn maze (I'm one of them), but this seems more like a concept to a future spectacular piece. It's kind of like the Dungeon of Terror. There were cool elements in that piece, but for the most part, it was blah as a ride and just recycled too many tropes from other pieces. Then Lemax took the best elements from the Dungeon of Terror and transformed it into a new re-imagined and fantastic piece with this year's Phantom Castle rollercoaster.
    I do like the new feel of the pop up monsters in the A-Maze-Ing Pumpkin Patch, it's standout element (the Dungeon of Terror had it's magnet moving skeletons in cages), but that's it. The creature shadowing the structure (although decent), along with the overused spinning set of creatures in the back, makes it feel like this piece was just slapped together. And if this was a $50 to $60 piece, that might've been fine, but this one is over $100 and that's just crazy to me. Especially when there have been much better pumpkin pieces like the Ghoulish Gourd selling for less. Here's what I would've liked to see...
    Have people walking through the actual maze instead of the spinning creatures in the back. Use magnets (like are done in the bumper car and ice skating pieces) and have them walk a trail through the maze. This is a freebee to Lemax if they happen to read this comment.
    I'm looking forward to seeing how Lemax evolves the concept of this piece instead of settling for this one. I don't want to make another mistake like I did buying (and returning) the Dungeon of Terror.
    Thanks as always for these reviews!

      @SpookyVillages  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey thanks for the well thought out critique- i hadn't thought of the magnet pieces and agree something like that would be awesome for a maze. I don't think this piece was phoned in so much as they just kind of went a smidge overboard in some spots on it!

      The prices of many/most of their pieces these days, especially considering the quality, has gone beyond what I'm willing to pay. The quality of the parts has gone down too much. Back in the day, I would happily buy several pieces every year. Now I get 1-2 at most. It's really too bad. But then that's the way almost all companies have been operating lately.

      @videogamevegas 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do miss the days where I'd walk into Michaels and they didn't over inflate the prices to where the coupons only brought down the price to normal retail. I think that's the piece I dislike most.
      I remember when I first discovered Lemax at Michael's and there were no coupons necessary. You'd walk into the store, day one after they put all the Lemax stuff out, and everything was just 60% off. Then near and after October, everything was 80% off. So many years of great deals.
      I would've never imagined paying even near retail back in the day. And I guess everyone just attributes it to inflation. I think that's a lame copout. But speaking with one's wallet is the language most business's talk and that's the way to go.

    Hi Doug! Thanks for the review. I wanted to know your thoughts on the large lit pumpkin head. I noticed you can see a lot of brush strokes when it is lit up. This seems to be a reoccurring “issue” with the painted plastic parts on other buildings Lemax has done as well. Does the light/dark paint job on the pumpkin head make it a detraction? I’m not sure if it would stop me from buying this piece, but I happened to notice it right away.

    • @SpookyVillages
      @SpookyVillages  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good point Dwight. I think it's fine on a piece like this but on something like a house it's more distracting. You can rectify (or help it, at least) by repainting/refinishing the element).

      The answer is two fold- I learned about washes when getting big into building military/tank models in the last couple of years and really this past year have started to get comfortable with them. My backround is modeling and radio control!
      I am a big Boylei fan, though. He's my favorite TH-camr and thanks to him I do look forward to experiment with landscaping washes! I've been a Patreon supporter of his for several years now!

      Hey Alex- in one of the groups, someone who works at Michaels got all the little pricing displays for the pieces and there was none for this piece. While I dunno that it totally confirms it, given some of the other animated pieces Michaels is carrying I'd say that checks out and I'd assume it won't be at Michaels.

    Those pop up spooks are making a lot of noise, wonder how long that system will take to fail. I like the LeMax aesthetic, and think they're creative in their designs, but their execution is god awful. Everything I've ever bought from them has failed mechanically and/or electrically. When you take a LeMax piece apart, the craftmanship is beyond bad and the engineering is not much better. I would be leery of this one based on the violent sounds, it's gonna shake itself apart for sure. 😅
