Tammy, i can't say enough how wonderfully you do your tutorials. You explain everything perfectly. You take your time explaining and giving tips without dragging everything out. Thank you soooo much. Your #1 fan.
Years ago I use to make similar bags but I used Pellon Fusible Thermolam Plus TP971F. It gave great structure but I wasn’t always happy with the results. I do love the relaxed look of the Pellon that you used. I may have to play around with making bags again. As always Tammy I love your videos. And thank you Shabby Fabrics for putting out quality videos and occasionally free patterns. Greatly appreciated.
We appreciate the ideas and suggestions you have for this project! Such a stunning project and happy that you love it! Thank you for your support and comment! - Abby
Thank you, Tammy, I really appreciate it when you talked about accidentally getting the handles twisted. Been there - done that!😅 Also I really appreciated the concise steps you laid out so well and not rushed, and you have a sweet pleasant voice and demeanor. Great tutorial! 😇
Wow, she is an excellent teacher! So precise and patient. I don’t like when tutorials feel rushed. I’m going to look for her other videos on your channel. Thanks for the awesome video!
Tammy I've been sewing over 50 years and I love how simple you made making a tote bag! I always enjoy and learn soe little something from you to make my sewing more enjoyable. I'm loving doing the Christmas BOM with the hand embroidery too.
Yes, I love how she is clear and concise and the camera angle that shows everything clearly. I have a young adult autistic daughter that’s learning to sew and videos like this are so helpful to her. Instead of like some other people who tell you what to do and then zoom on through and don’t show you.
Happy that you enjoyed this tutorial and that it is helpful for your daughter! Great that she is learning how to sew! She is going to have a lot of fun! We appreciate your support and comment! - Abby
I love your tutorials, clear enunciation for hard of hearing folks like me. ….measured speech. I have earmarked this bag …as soon as I have fabrics……in this excellent tutorial, I cannot find measurements for gusset or width of strap…..one can adapt …but it would be handy to have those. I give this tutorial 10 out of ten. Thank you Tammy. Irene
Hi Irene - We're so glad you enjoyed this fun project! You should be able to find these measurements on the Free Download, here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/750 -Michelle
Tammy, your tutorials are always so great! You have a pleasant speaking voice and are so good at explaining each step of how to do a project. I also like that you emphasis not being perfect, while showing how to make a project come together exactly right with no stress!
This is perfect! We are making lap quilts and bibs for our local nursing home as Christmas gifts. This would be great way to package those and some other small gifts. Thank you for sharing this
I just got some old school Christmas fabric from my neighbor, along with a big hank of interfacing. This is perfect for it. Add a recessed zip and a pocket or 2 and I have the cutest shopping tote! Thinking I may do french seams on this.
Happy that you love this project! A Halloween bag would be fun! We have a lot of Halloween fabrics if you are interested: www.shabbyfabrics.com/c64/fabrics/fabrics-by-theme/halloween-fabric Thank you for your support and comment! - Abby
Absolutely adorable gift idea, thank you so much for the great "easy for me to comprehend" instructions and I can hardly wait for my cute cookie fabrics to arrive!!!
Oo I forgot to add your way I’d be able to add embroidery. Just to give you ladies so extra ideas. And yes this type of bag can be made of season material, for Halloween, Easter, Valentines, you name it.
Hi neelie619 - We're glad you enjoy this fun project! We are actively looking for another collection to remake those bags for Christmas 2025. -Michelle

Great tutorial! I have lots of Christmas fabric in my stash and this will be perfect to use some of it up. I have a question about the cutting directions; the bag bottom is cut to 4-1/2" x 10-1/2" while the bag sides are cut to 2-3/4" x 12-1/2". With 1/4" seam allowances, the sides will end up being 1/4" wider than the bottom. Or is my brain not seeing the finished math properly?
We're so glad this project inspires you! You may feel better about the math by reviewing how Tammy boxes the corners at timestamp 20:20 and sewing the diagrams on our Free Download here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/750 -Michelle
12:38 you put that handle on the wrong side of that frixion line 😢😮 (not sure if you caught that or not) Are you using a BERNINA? If so, what foot do you have on? TIA
Hi SewWhittle - We're glad you enjoyed this fun tutorial! And thanks for catching that :) We are using the Bernina 770QE for this project, along with the 97D patchwork foot. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
This project does seem pretty Fat Quarter-Friendly, but you may need to piece some together to create the lining fabric. Hope this helps! Thanks for your comment! - Abby
