After this miserable heat here in Texas, I am more than ready for the cold. 108 and 106 with "feels like" temps over 111. Gruesome. Bring on the cooler weather please.
Those who grow food don't want early fall / winter. The longer it stays warm, the more food we can grow. Early frost kills crops. Hopefully it's not too cold too early, and not for long enough to disrupt the late summer / early autumn growing season. That's the reason I watch these forecasts.

Here in eastern TN that first cool night in the valley, in the mid 50's, like tonight, means swimming in the mountain rivers is done. Lows on top of the mountains will be in the 30's and once that water hits the rivers below in a night's time, swimming in the Smokies are done for the season. The lakes are cooling off and give it another few week, by Sept 1st, than it's kayaking and boats only. And football time in TN! lol
Highly doubtful. Too early in the season for the water to stay cold. I'm in upstate NY and our mountains are nowhere near the 30's yet. We get way colder than you guys do. Way earlier too. So you have another month yet.

Keep in mind, in the Summer those mountain rivers seldom get warmer than low 70's at warmest The lakes here in eastern TN, are just damned up regions of the TN river, Clinch rivers, Holston rivers, which all converge. Nonsense.. lol I lived also in Greece, NY near Rochester for 4 years, Syracuse for 6 years and Carthage, NY in upstate NY for about 4 or 5 as well. In the Adirondack mountains, absolutely above 4K feet in mid to late August. And i've had Summers were the water n ever really warmed up in Lake Erie to where you felt comfortable swimming. We'd call them blue ankle Summers lol. In the smokies that go up over 6, 600 feet, you can take the vally temp and take off 25 to 30 degrees. Yesterday, we had a high of 80 in the valley while above 6K feet the high was around 50F lol. That is normal for how it is here with the temp difference. But it is a little early to see cold snaps with lows here in the ball in the low to middle 50's which is what it was here this am in the TN valley.

Our normal high this time of year is around 90. Up, your mountains had lows in the 30's last night lol. At this hour it's only 50F in Lake Placid, NY. lol. Good heavens man and that isn't even near the higher mountains. lol. I've seen snow in early Sept on Mt Marcy lol.. Look at even Cranberry Lake's forecast, yoru already having lows in the upper 40's. Now add some elevation and some thought, hmmmm if its that cold at Cranberry now, how much cooler is it going to be at 4K feet and higher in the mountains? LOL C'mon man, you got think like the weather itself. lol. At just over 6k feet on Mt Washington in New Hampshire, right now as i write this, it's 41F! lol. It's nearly 10:40 am. Research elevation and why it's colder at elevation. As te day's grow shorter, it takes more even more warm weather to heat water temperatures. This is why once the coioler weather settles in, usually happens in September and early October, it's permanent. But the Fall air has come early. It should not have been 52 at my house last night, but alas, the weather pattern for an early Fall is here. Now the cold water layer is thicker in all lakes and rivers here.
As a gardener I do appreciate the weather forecast for the area that I live in Fond du Lac Wisconsin and with the weather I can tell you that it will be easy for me to end the growing season hopefully thanks for the info
I’m in East Texas. You could definitely tell the wind shifted this morning. Dry air makes it so much more comfortable outside. Still in the low 90’s but we’re usually fighting 100+ temps right now.
I took a picture of my driveway last evening. It had leaves all over it as if we were in late October! Plus a few of my trees are also changing to Fall colors already. We live in upstate South Carolina. I do hope Fall comes early...I'm so freaking done with this heat!!!!!
Back in the day, this is when Missouri would cool down. We would always have ice when i was a kid in the 90's by early october. We say this cool down is early, but if you actually remember correctly, this IS NORMAL. The newer trends of heat till november over the past 10-20 years IS NOT normal. We had to actually bundle up on Halloween, not wear shorts and short sleeves.
I'll admit, I love summer the most because of all the cheap activities you can do and the vacation time off school. Winter after the holidays is just cold and boring.

Down on the gulf coast we are just trying to stay alive in summer. We avoid the outdoors. Our animals die very easy in this heat. But it’s perfect fall weather in the holidays, 60’s and 70’s, just lovely.
I live in the remote North Minnesota Woods USA and I've experienced -40 with 8ft snowdrifts..... It's wild. We don't have homeless folks and it's not very populated. It is growing a bit due to the insanity in the cities. I'm 5+mi from a little town and 20mi from a little bit bigger town. We had a super mild winter and a nice long summer. It's beginning to feel like fall off and on. We're still hitting the 80s. Once we don't get above 65 during the day? Summer's over....
Hmmm CFS has not been too accurate for GA. While it is 84 today, we are back to the 88 and 90s the rest of the week into next week. I consider that red.
