    I've watched this video and love it. I've read almost all of the comments. The white woman in the video who felt Live Aid and Live 8 was "white people riding in to save the poor people." I take umbrage with her comments because all but two counties in Africa have been colonized by white people! The Continent is not poor. No colonizer would overtake a country if it were poor. Unfortunately, the people don't benefit. To the women who seemed concerned about the optics, I've many friends who have relocated to the west. They all speak of the poverty and the difficulty of living in Africa and they are here building lives because they can support themselves and their families at home. The people who need the aid are too often forgotten. Geldorf and Bono are trying to make a difference. They deserve credit for that and not bullshit! They are making a valiant attempt to make a difference. My question is: WHAT ARE THE LEADERS/PRESIDENTS DOING BESIDES LINING THEIR POCKETS?? THEY LIVE LAVISH LIFESTYLES WHILE THEIR PEOPLE STRUGGLE. Perhaps Live Aid didn't solve all the problems, but there should be comfort that some people were helped. Damn! The leaders in Africa have abdicated by continuing to look to new colonizers - Russia and China - for assistance. The cycle continues!

    I think that Bob Geldof,and Bono should be applauded for their tremendous efforts over the decades for their work to eradicate hunger,disease,and poverty In Africa.Gentlemen take a well deserved bow!!! These are two men of Integrity.They are not lining their pockets to Increase their wealth,or fame as some would have you believe.

      You are right. 99.9% are not. As for that 0.1% we should give all the glory and time to them. Since it is the dire wish of most celebrity to be famous. The fame must be connected with charity. That way the new trend can be created. Saying that ALL of them are bad goes against the goal of giving, charity and goodness. So lets respect those that give.

    D. Moyo is spot on. the celebrty activists are short sighted with their goals. Shifting from emergincy aid towards development aid has only perpetuated problems and amounted to overwhelming debt towards international institutions like the WTO and IMF. Development needs to come from within.

    the most important thing is, human race isn't all insane yet, there still are people that have empathy and love towards others. we can fail hundreds and thousands and millions of times. If world is only about right and wrong, black and white there won't be a single human being on this planet. Keep up the good work.!!!

    It seems to me that Bono and Gandolf were the spark that ignited a flame for the issues facing Africa. Its up to the people to turn this into a bonfire. So the people of Africa can be self sufficient.

    Thanks to their high profiles, Geldof and Bono have moved and changed many things others simply have not. I find the expression "they have failed miserably" entirely absurd. Geldof and Bono have not failed, African leaders have failed, Western leaders have failed, and for too many years already. Geldof and Bono have been a tiny but positive part of the solution, and certainly they are not part of the problems Africa has to deal with.

    I appreciate Bono's efforts. At least he tried. He could have just as easily been a self absorbed, cocaine sniffing Rock Star and never gave a sh*t about the poor. I bet every Bono "hater" on TH-cam combined have given less money and time to help the poor than Bono alone has. It's easy to criticize and hard to really make a difference. I support Bono's efforts, even if they fail. What have YOU done lately? Would you like people to hate on you because you contribute your money and time??

    one problem with giving poor countries foreign aid is that it keeps them poor. if i'm a farmer in africa trying to sell my grain for money and some foreigner comes to my land and radically undercuts me by giving it it out for free, who is going to want to pay for my food. a band aid on a broken leg doesn't help very much. the best way to improve any situation is to invest in the infrastructure

    Fact is no one would want to see a fairer world and more developed Africa than Africans themselves, and I'm sure the talent isn't lacking, seeing Bono and Geldof spearheading this initiative and not involving an African as the face of the initiative leads to scepticism of their involvement however sincere. Let us not be dissuaded, the trade terms are the most important factor that needs to be changed leave alone aid and debts. Africa can also chose to rebel and unite in trade negotiations.

    Bono also helped found DATA a NON PROFIT campaign to tackle Debt, Aid, and Trade in Africa. Non Profit...no record sales here. He continues to partake in ONE which is still successfully improving 10 areas of issues including debt cancellation and education. He's put years of effort and a lot of money into these campaigns, switch your hate-filled blame to the celebrities who have done nothing. Be less angry. Don't fuck Bono.

    so much more and better must be done by rich countrie's to reduce debt and fight the corruption in africa and elsewhere. so much more of their debt can and must be canceled to lift them out of poverty and help promote real and sustainable development in these countrie's. there is so much more work that can be done to create a decent quality of life in poor countries. america must work with other rich nations and world leaders to end this tragedy right nowits so extremely traggic and disturbing how little has been done to help these countrie's and their people improve their quality of live's.

    Have you ever went to U2 concert and have you seen how many ppl showed up. Yes the guy is activist but he makes load of money for himself because he is damn good singer..U2 360degree concert from 2009 to 2011 grossed $760 million, not included the album sales and other commercial sales.... If he was not that much popular, I don't think his activism effort would have being that good.

    yeah, 4 years later, this video is now 4 years old, poverty exists everywhere, and nobody has done fuck-all about it. tax the richest 5% of people 5% more of their income, give it to the poorest, and there will be no more poor people. the richest will still have 95% of their money, they will still be INCREDIBLY rich, and people will have food in their stomachs, and maybe then they will stop dying?

    This is disappointing. How did the producers understand poverty? What was Paul Collier doing as an expert and critic of the celebrity answer to poverty? Collier wrote the obscene plan for Haiti development. He fits his work into a thorough surrender to power. Let the Haitians work for the consuming countries since that's the best we can expect. Who else is the voice of the poor: Soros and Bill Gates! I had seen one other episode of this series (Park Avenue one) and thought it might be okay. no!

    whatever is the path to ending poverty, it certainly goes through awareness. What they've done in that respect is irrefutable. Speaking of humility, the fact that white men are the banners for change in africa, is a consequence of the fact that white man are making the decisions. We hope it will change... but it's only an expectation so far. Furthermore... a day will come where one's identity does not have to relate to the color of it's skin.. but.. that's another story.

    I think an elephant in the room here is very poor administration from corrupt African leaders and overpopulation. There is a lot to say about the negative impact of western countries, colonisation etc but there is also much that African countries should be doing to solve the problems they are facing. I don't believe aid and debt cancellation can fix a continent that is growing beyond it's means and that is poorly using its resources and Bono and all the aid in the world will not solve these underlying issues.

    the only change is that Bono and Geldof have aged, in fact Geldof looks older by much too much. meanwhile the poverty is more in effect than ever before. what a silly effort, feed the poor... there will always be too many poor. in fact time is running out. there are 7 billion people on this planet, and the resources are rapidly being exhausted. who will feed the poor when there are 10 billion of us. when there are 20 billion. obviously the poor will be the ruination of us all...

    Poverty is caused by laziness, ignorance, and poor choices. It is NOT caused by greed, or the wealthy. Greed creates wealth, wealth creates more weath. Only poverty creates more poverty. And the worst thing you can do to reduce poverty is to give people handouts for nothing, as it only encourages laziness and more poor choices.
