    About:
    Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
    We document our life on TH-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

    Handmade gifts, sewing, writing letters is a thing of the past. It warms my heart to see that you still give handmade gifts. Kids want electronics or video games and your daughter is thrilled to get an old school typewriter. Your awesome parents. Have a great evening.

    Loraine, microwave your eggs shells for 1 minute- add 10 seconds for more than 5 shells. This will sterilize them, then crush them in a plastic bag with a rolling pin or something similar to almost powder, then add to your garden (tomato garden) will prevent blossom end rot and in general improve tomato plant health. Also use for potato plants. PS...you can also bake them in the stove, about 20 min. and you can do the entire batch all at once on a cookie sheet or aluminium foil.

    • @GinaKayLandis
      @GinaKayLandis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus give to chickens (shells should be crushed), sprinkle on garden and little wild birds will also eat them. Really helped my tomatoes not have blossom end rot!

    I know what you mean about the weather. This time of year I usually don't know whether or not to look for a white Christmas. A few years ago I turned back from a drive to see my son on Christmas day because the snow storm I was driving in was so bad. This Christmas I went to visit that same son on a 60 degree day.

I just sent a letter with packets for two varieties of squash seeds; some for your garden and a duplicate set for the Rhodes' garden. I asked you to deliver seeds to the Rhodes' because I couldn't locate an address for them.

    I use the small rubberized garden tubs INSIDE the freezer. They stay flexible in the frozen conditions. I use different colors for different frozen items. Example Yellow = chicken Pink = pork and Green = veggies They can stack if they are not completely full and can really make organizing those chest freezers easier. Called "Tubtrugs" on Amazon

      @@SowtheLand Dig in the stream a deep pit place a bucket in the pit place pump in bucket same as a sump pump in a basement. Placing screen wire over the top to keep the weeds from collecting in it. hook up solar power to it to run the pump when needed. if the ground is not frozen rent a trench digger place pipe below freeze line to your shed or best place to water animals with freeze free spout on end of water pipe.

This year is actually quiet here and that's what I was doing on Christmas day I was home alone as I didn't feel well but I did sit at my machine and was trying to figure out what I could make for some reason this machine I have wont do anything except straight Stitch . My good and sewing machine needs repair and it's so expensive because it's computerized. Belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. @@julieb7068 Thanks. Various weights and widths are fairly inexpensive online at Fabric.com. Also printed and yarn dyed flannel. Great site. The stuff I mean is sometimes called baby flannel. (I was a theatrical costumer in another life and built most of my own clothes from my own patterns.)

      You could wear leggings under your cotton skirts in the winter also.

      @@Onegoodyarn You could....but a slip or petticoat is much MUCH prettier......IMHO of course.

    You can make a list of what is in the freezer and keep it on top or inside. I laminated a piece of lined paper, so it made it easy to add or erase what was taken out. It helped a lot! Happy New Year!!

    I never thought of using a Allen wrench to tighten eyebolts with. Great video as always.

    Quiet Christmas at home for us too. Picked up 2 books on sewing & 1 beginner woodworking at the thrift store. Can't wait to make my end tables & potting bench.
