    You could add a MAF sensor and arduino to get some idea of the actual CFM flow. I built one that correct for temp, air pressure and humidity, plus corrected for test head (pressure). I really should make a video on mine some day.

      I'd love to get that sketch. I had the exact same idea. Also thought of a PC fan and measuring voltage. How did you come up with the data points for the MAF?

      That would be unreal as I have had the excat same thought since doing a basic Arduino intro day. (Can't write code yet!)

    By chance have you been looking a vizard book ? I love it. You mates may shit can your approach, but once you pull away from them and all they see is your tail pipe, they'll sit up and pay attention. Keep it up lads. Awesome effort for not a huge outlay

      We were certainly inspired by an article about Mr. Vizards book and used the supplied information to craft the bench the in the video. While we have stalled out on progress with the head porting as of late, we do plan to get back at it and demonstrate some revisions to our test bench. Thanks for the comment! - Darren

    I’ve read and re-read Mr Vizard’s book, too. All this is very interesting. I like the way yours doesn’t use a blocked cylinder bore.
    But how do measure the amount of valve opening? And how do you open the valves?

      I use a dial gauge in the retainer for measuring valve lift, to open them, use a light spring and then make an attachment to bolt to the cylinder head and has a machine screw to push down on the valve stem to open it a set amount.

    Thanks heaps boys u r the first guys to actually describe how to make a flow bench that i could understand.but the only thing i dont get is the clear hose could u explain a bit more of what i dont c in the clip. Like is it a u shape & how / where do u fill it from?

    Can't wait to see what the difference between All the avaiable camshafts, i Have been looking for a Different one for my 2103 but don't really know what to get...

      Honeyroasted cashewnuts We can certainly test different flow rates for changes in camshaft lift but we may not be able to simulate exact camshaft dynamics with regards to duration etc. We are excited to tinker with this tool and see the results. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Darren

    Sory about my inglsh. Im a brazillian guy. Very nice vídeo. Congratulations. So.. what about a hose with watter? One End on the spark plug and another to atmosphere?

      That is exactly correct, the water column will move as the vacuum draws on the spark plug side. The atmosphere end allows the water column to freely move in the tube. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Darren

    Wouldn't the manometer be best placed permanently on the downpipe out to the shop vac rather than having to remove and replace each time you change cylinders? Genuine question.

      Hi Ben, I think that would work quite well, we did ours in the manner we did as we were working from David Vizard's book and it's what his method suggested. Now there might have been some unpublished reason for this port location, but I can't think of why it might have a big impact. If you try it out yourself be sure to let us know what you discover.
