I may be one of the luckiest ones here. I used to get to ride it once a year for a party. The Cheyenne Frontier Days would run the train from Denver to Cheyenne each year with the Denver Post paper before they shut down. My girlfriend used to work there a long time ago, and I once won tickets on the train at the Denver rodeo. One trip and I was hooked, never missed a trip. I got to be well known by the crew, the hosts and most of the regulars, who I became one of due to my well, entertainment capabilities. There was a band on the train, dance car, bar car, and it got to be a pretty wild time. They had to cut down on the alcohol after the train broke down one trip, by chance, in the town I lived in, on the way home. So many go so wasted, and the party got so wild. After that, they limited drinks. I don't drink so my drink tickets became QUITE valuable. And I would auction them off. So would other non-drinkers. There were other creative things we did on that train. IT WAS FUN!!!! In later years we had a group of four who would go on the trip. My group dressed up once, the ladies went as a dance hall girls from the 1800's, and the men as train robbers. It was perfect for the rodeo as well, being up in Cheyenne. We became the hit of the party, the train and then the governor HAD to meet us (Hickenlooper). From that time on, we sort of became the life of the party every year. Everyone waited anxiously for us to arrive on the train and see what we had up our sleeves.
