      Never know when a good inside move could win a game by catching an unfocused runner when it really counts...

    When doing the inside move toward 2nd can you keep turning and go to 1st base? If so, you would have to throw it I suspect.

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, but also there would be no reason to ever do that.

    So just want to doublecheck if there is a runner on first base.
    The pitcher can make this inside move and just run after the base Runner ?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      there's no reason to do that. you'd just step off, then track the runner down.

      I understand. We had a pitcher do that to us.
      From the stretch
      Leg came up
      My runner went to second
      Pitcher spin move
      Ran runner down
      I've never seen that before, just want clarification

      it should be a balk. thats a pickoff to an unoccupied base.

      @@DanBlewett that's what I thought. I've never seen it before. Defeats the purpose of 1b base runner going when the RH pitcher lifts front leg.

    Can you do this if a runner is stealing from 1st to make a play at second without stepping off first?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  ปีที่แล้ว

      you technically could but it wouldnt be the best thing to do - step off and find the runner instead

    If the pitcher makes any movement with his swing leg towards home plate would that be a balk?

    Are you allowed to use the inside move if there is no runner on 2nd?

    • @DanBlewett

      Nope. Balk. Must be occupied to pick to a base.

      @@DanBlewett what if there is a runner at first attempting to steal second?

  • @2121294
    @2121294 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The shortstop or second baseman can call for an inside move. A lot of youth players and teen players get really aggressive secondary move and aren’t looking for the inside move.

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      theres no good reason for an infielder to call an inside move. The pitcher should decide.

    According to the MLB rule change from 2011, you can not fake a pick off to 3rd base as stated in this video. U-trip rules follow MLB so they can not fake to 3rd, but NFHS says you sill can.. what about college?

    • @DanBlewett

      not what I meant. meant stepping off

    Can you use the inside move to trigger the steal to 3rd then make the play at 3rd?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. Because you can fake to second, once you’ve done the inside move to second you’re then free to do whatever you want. You just have to make sure you step to second, then once you’re off the rubber anything goes.

    Inside move was sloppy. And it is definitely something that can be coordinated with ss and 2nd basemen plus cf to break towards backing up the pick all at once. We do it all the time. You mentioned it catches them off guard. It don’t. My team calls this play from the bucket and the whole team sees it and knows it’s going down. Nobody is caught off guard. It is a bait move. Everybody is involved.
    So-
    Call it from your bucket...Your 2nd basemen and shortstop needs to be in their regular position way off the bag to also bait the runner.
    Base coaches typically holler ‘Add’ because nobody’s there holding his runner. At the pitchers knees peak, 2nd basemen knows it’s on so he is reading the pitchers knee too and breaks to the bag, cf is breaking to the bag. Pitcher throws into air 2ft over the bag and 2nd basemen comes rushing and diving catching swiping in one motion to get the runner. I’ve gotten HUNDREDS of outs coaching this. IF the runner is caught and pickled pitcher just steps off and executes the run down. My signal is to extend both feet out from the bucket. My defense reads every thing my feet do every single pitch from the bucket. No ones caught on yet til I’m telling y’all for free now. I have one son in mlb and he says my moves I teach are better than the ones his coaches use since he left my 13u team. I got keyed off when you said everybody gets caught off guard and your positions don’t know when your picking. May redo a video session now.

      Our team uses the inside move with 2B when right handed hitters are up. Daylight with SS when a lefty is up. Same call.....players know what to do based on batter. Inside move works more often.
