My late dad served in Burma too (2nd KOSB) and I remember mum telling me, post war and in the early years of their marriage dad would crawl on his hands and knees at night, still in some nightmare, thinking he was back in the jungle. Somehow, I cannot imagine anyone going off to war and coming back unaffected in some way.
Alan, I know you are proud of your Grand-dad and so you should be. And he would be just as proud of you today were he alive. It is amazing the insights we can glean across the generations talking to that lovely gentleman you had a chat with. Bless his soul for talking with you and may your Grand-dad rest in eternal sleep. ♥️☘️

I was a Cpl in the USMC. I offer my total respect for your father. Those men 100% saved the world.
Deeply sad. I'm so sorry.
Physical wounds may heal but the wounded mind is another matter and some never heal.
I'm so sorry your parents had to endure so much anxiety and fear. My dad served in Marines in S.Pacific
Im so glad that this Gentleman was able to tell Alan what a Great Man/Soldier his Grandfather was.
Alans smile has me smiling!! 😁
As a guy, this was super incredible to watch. Can’t imagine an experience like this, incredible.

My great-granduncle was killed by a sniper in British Malaya in 1946. He was 33.
My deepest respects to your great uncle. And every man who fought in the jungle warfare! The Japs were not brave! Just evil!
Respects to your ancestor from a US Marine.
