About to make my third ever knife and it is for my fathers 80th birthday who enjoys cooking. I have all the tools you have and am so grateful for this video. Thank you for the inspiration.
Beautiful knife, I have been wanting to make a chefs knife but thought it would be to difficult, you made it look easy and it came out real nice. I know what I'm doing this week end. Thanks.
Using the tip of a drill bit to etch the apex line= genius. Also I’m going to adopt the file zip tied to a rod technique for my plunge lines. I use a belt sander for the grind and sharpening jig for bevels but haven’t been able to produce clean plunge lines. These are the tips a novice like me need to enter the next tier of craftsmanship. I’m glad I clicked your video. Thank you
really like the knife man. just as a suggestion, if you evenly heat the blade to the same color orange as the tip was before you quench it you will come out with a higher quality knife do to a consistent hardness on the edge. keep making stuff!
I was going to make a kitchen knife like how Diresta made one; but I don't have the tools he has. Your video will likely be a huge contributing influence when I make mine. Thank you for posting this video!
Now that is a nice knife. It must have taken you an age to do that with nothing but hand tools. Something to be proud of when using it for preparing food. Hope you enjoy it.
Bravo! In terms of precision this is already quite a leap forward from your simple-tools hunting knife (which was also quite good, but appeared to have some issues with the pins being loose). Keep up the good work. The fact that you're doing all this with hand tools is really inspiring.
Love the style of the knife, the blade and the handle complement each other. Great work, remember the type of tools you use doesnt deminish the final product. Files are more accurate than grinders.
I'm going to get into making knives this way very soon. I've always been good at this kind of thing, and it's great to see what can be done with basic tools. Loved watching this very cool.
Peter Adamson Knives halo Mr Peter I'm a new flower's from Saudi Arabia &I like your channel &your work. I hope that you can help me to get one of your knifes above. thank you for your video's which gives us the meaning that nothing is impossible in the life &you can get a mazing knife from some pieces of metal and wood. if anyone has founded it .won't take it. thanks &good luck with your passion.
I truly admire your work! I know you said it took alot with the bevel. But I think it gives the knives more history and richness to it. I'm going to make one with my son and as we will bevel and smooth it out, we will be bonding. Thank you so much for this video, it really brought me joy man that you can make a knife like this. I love it. And I just subscribed!
I am making a knife and a sword of a swordfish head I bought on the market. As soon as I am finished i'l post a video. Nice tools and great skills dude. thx for the vid. greetings from Tanger Morocco
Nice results. The handle looks great given that you only used rasp and sandpaper in your shaping. One thing I found on the intial shaping with the angle grinder is to use the 36 - 40 grit flap discs. They remove material quickly but are still controllable.
I like watching your videos because i use pretty much the same way do do knives. It also reminds people that if you want to do something you can do it with what you have. Nice video.
Really inspiring work dude. I've wanted to make a knife for ages but not really been confident. Seeing the amazing stuff you've made here, and then discovering it is your second one is a huge inspiration. You deserve way more subs than you've got.
it's a kitchen knife. micarta is more resistant to water and provides better grip in the cooking conditions. wood looks really good and warm, but prolonged exposure to water, oils and grease will eventually destroy the outer layers.
Maaannnnn....Awesome video. I have been struggling with the Gough Jig for ages...Seen you do it with the sharpy on the initial edge is just what I needed to see to get a better understanding. Thanks Mate
nice work... I use sesame seed oil / sweet almond oil or walnut oil... Sometimes if my scales are from an exotic tree, I blend all of them together and use the mixture. I first rub the oil on, wipe off the excess and with some oil soaked into a microfiber cloth, I wrap the handle overnight. Dunno but I accidentally discovered this when wife called downstairs and I forgot the knife handle wrapped in the cloth when our friends came in for a coffee... I saw that the scales were gleaming when I gave them a final wipe down...
Man, from a fellow maker, that's a beautiful end result--you did a great job putting the finish on the blade and that would came out very nice as well! Congrats!!!
I love how the knife came out. I also find it funny how it says "basic" tools but a drill press (which isn't all that basic that just everybody would have) is used. Also when you check the hardness you have to use the file in a normal way to find out for sure. I can get a file to not make a mark on mild steel the way he did. Not saying it's a bad knife because it does look great and it shows that he knows kinda what he is doing just throwing a few tips out
que hermoso trabajo, me gusto mucho la forma tan practica que tenes para trabajar, lo practico de tu hornillo, el lijado a mano, en fin magnifico trabajo artesanal. te felicito.
You did a grat job with the knife and the video. The video by Aaron was what persuaded me I can do it too. Today I use a little 1x30" grinder which helps a lot. Again, great work, thanks for sharing.
I have to take my hat off to you mate. Amazing result with limited equipment but a lot of skill and determination. Ask for a be;t sander for Christmas!
very nice! And nice to see, you did all with a file and not with a belt grinder as most people do. and thank you for uplaoding the schematic! :) i think i will try to do one by myself next time :)
Excellent work, beutiful knife. How much time did it take from start to finish? Out of curiosity, why did you write in the video that heat treating was sufficient when the knife blade was lo longer sticking to the magnet? Wouldn't a steel blade stick to the magnet because of it's physical properties, no matter how many times it would go through heat treatment? I really like your patience and skills, you've done a great job with this knife.
About to make my third ever knife and it is for my fathers 80th birthday who enjoys cooking. I have all the tools you have and am so grateful for this video. Thank you for the inspiration.
Beautiful knife. Shows what can be accomplished with basic tools. I guess I don't have an excuse now for not making that first knife.
I feel the same way.
😱😱😱😱😱
you make me sick nasty face Mojan

Even someone with all the tools in the world wouldnt be ashamed of that. Thats one beautiful blade!

Easy to follow with added text, good video shows in detail how to get results with what tools most people have without major machinery.
thanks!
The tools simply make it easier to do so it's the man holding the tool that is important and knowing what he can do with the tool.
What joy you must get while using this knife you made yourself! Thanks for making the video.
That's one satisfyingly beautiful kitchen knife if I make it it'll probably my favorite kitchen knife that no one would ever touch..
really like the knife man. just as a suggestion, if you evenly heat the blade to the same color orange as the tip was before you quench it you will come out with a higher quality knife do to a consistent hardness on the edge. keep making stuff!
Excellent work using very basic tools. Well done and great result.
what a piece of art with simple tools pure hand made beautiful work
Kudos!
The whole piece is beautiful and the handle is gorgeous.
They got nothing on you mate, cheers!
I'm a original black smith in India but love ur great job
The most beautiful chef knife profile. very good result.
I was going to make a kitchen knife like how Diresta made one; but I don't have the tools he has. Your video will likely be a huge contributing influence when I make mine. Thank you for posting this video!
good luck, just don't rush things and it'll turn out good in my experience
Awesome work. That jig for filing primary bevel is ingenious.
Now that is a nice knife. It must have taken you an age to do that with nothing but hand tools. Something to be proud of when using it for preparing food. Hope you enjoy it.
Great Job! Love these videos where people let the work 'do the talking'. Keep it up.
That was patience level 9000 bro, nice dedication , Kudos on your future endeavors !!!

thanks! yea, the first knife had a fair few learning mistakes, getting the bench drill makes drilling the pin holes a breeze
One of the best. Excellent profile and handle. You've set a standard to aim for!
Great work and that wood came out beautiful 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the style of the knife, the blade and the handle complement each other. Great work, remember the type of tools you use doesnt deminish the final product. Files are more accurate than grinders.
Really nice workmanship - so satisfying to watch

Extremely nice piece of quality workmanship. Beautiful as well as functional. Thanks for posting, enjoyable to watch your expertise!
Beautiful knife! That came out really nice, great work. Keep it up man.
Even with such basic tools, the knife looks so good. Try getting some micarta or some nice looking wood.
I like the wood. I prefer wood to plastic or resin.
Anbu8366 I like the wood he used.
you suck you ✌ of

Old belt for a strop? I like your style man!
ha thanks, need to make a better one at some point, but it does the trick!
Maaannnnn....Awesome video. I have been struggling with the Gough Jig for ages...Seen you do it with the sharpy on the initial edge is just what I needed to see to get a better understanding. Thanks Mate

You make it look easy my friend. I want to try making one in the near future.

NICE WORK! You’ve got skills mate!

Nice work! Get a few more tools (cheap die grinder and jigsaw) and save labour in the rough cuts. Really nice attention to detail and love the shape.
que hermoso trabajo, me gusto mucho la forma tan practica que tenes para trabajar, lo practico de tu hornillo, el lijado a mano, en fin magnifico trabajo artesanal. te felicito.

NICE ONE ! thx for sharing the template...not many people does that!
Were you seeing the template link
I liked the design of the knife very ، ، very much
I have to take my hat off to you mate. Amazing result with limited equipment but a lot of skill and determination. Ask for a be;t sander for Christmas!
it's on the list!
great knife, simple to make (not easy just simple)
I'm enjoyed every minute watching this video👍👍👍👍👍❤👏👏
Thank you for the inspiring vid and beautiful work. It's wonderful to see how such great work can be made even without a belt sander.
Heat up the handle first in a small forge, stops the heat dissipating so fast allowing you to heat up the actual blade portion.
good idea, i'll try that next time
Very well done. My compliments.
It's a beautiful blade. Thanks for sharing.
I think You made a very nice knife, the design i beautyful, especially the curves in the blade and handle, and made by very few tools.
Totally awesome, enjoyed watching
High quality work as always! I still can't believe that you still have less than 400 subs, you deserve more. Any idea what's next?
thanks! gotta start somewhere. Not sure what I'll do next, something a lot smaller than this one I think!
Peter Adamson Knives cool! Looking foreword to it! (Btw I'm the same guy that commented above I just got a new account)

Great work! I need to try to do it myself.
extraordinary job
Great video. I was wondering the bevel part. Did you make the cutting edge first and then the bevel?
Very good work. Will you put the video how you made that bevel jig?
Josip Koprivanac hi, there's a link in the description to a video by gough custom on how it's made
very nice! And nice to see, you did all with a file and not with a belt grinder as most people do.
and thank you for uplaoding the schematic! :)
i think i will try to do one by myself next time :)
