from what i recall hearing from a couple of chefs years ago the reason why certain dishes are called afghani is because back in the days chefs sourced the best nuts and dry fruits from afghanistan and so when the chefs would make a dish that would have a creamy flavour and consistency and enriched with those nuts, they give them the moniker of afghani. same thing for dishes called "kandhari". i'm not sure if that variation exists in pakistan aswell(ideally it should) but here in india anything that is called kandahari features pomegranates in some form because again in the old days some of the best anaar used to be sourced from kandahar(i dont know if it still is the case or not) for instance kandhari gosht or murgh, or kandahari seekh or tikka, kandahari paneer etc. so yeah the names afghani or kandhari seemingly have nothing to do with what the afghanis cooked but chefs paying respect to the place where they were getting their produce from. or so goes the story, i could be completely wrong or off base here, since in our countries sadly food history is documented poorly so most of it just passed down orally and how much of it is true, who knows? but this seemed like the most plausible.

no many dishes came from Afghanistan through silk road so thats why they got the name and many afghan and turk kings ruled india so they also brough central Asian cuisine , Afghan, iran and central asian cuisine share alot of roots, they are less spicy and contain meat alot
